Demonising liquidation carries risk

990

I didn’t hear the scores of other games this weekend until today when I read a red card protest (remember the day Celtic fans gave birth to this concept?) occurred at Ibrox to demonstrate disapproval to any potential new owner who plans to liquidate Rangers.

It would be preferable to everyone if Rangers paid their bills, restoring a degree of dignity, although apparently no one is offering to do this.  Publicly bidders for the club will all confirm their preference is to exit administration via a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).  Offering pennies in the pound for a company is unquestionably a great deal, for the buyer, but whoever is nominated as preferred bidder this week is likely to have a serious option to liquidate the club.

Demonising the liquidation option carries risks for Rangers fans.  Short of raising considerably more money than they have thus far and paying their bills, there is little fan power can do right now.  If liquidation is the best option for creditors it will happen, better to accept the reality of the situation.  Whatever the resulting phoenix club is called, if the new owners inherit animosity from the start it will only diminish the potential of their new club.

  1. Edward,

Was only a lurker when you stopped posting so good to see you back. Sometimes it’s good to hear things from the alternative point of view.

Was watching one of those documentaries about bears when I suddenly understood your Jim de blog.

Because I don’t know the city well enough I wouldn’t have been able to direct you and don’t even know if that was where I watched the Dunfermline game at the New Year!!

However, I’ll keep it in mind next time I’m in town and a game is on mate.

  4. To all known creditors:

The game is given away in the duff and phelps report. They state that the future ownership must be sorted before the end of the season. The timetable for a handover details this. There can only be one reason for this timetable, to bounce SPL and SFA into allowing them to continue to compete in the SPL as the newco.

Ask yourself what other reason would there be to postpone any decision past the end of the season. If I were a creditor, would it not be a good idea to wait until the transfer window opens to realise some cash from the player assets, which would all be lost in liquidation.

  5. I hope they :

    get shredded,liquidated,liquidised,blended,battered,burned…culinary disaster,in the bin,gone.

  6. Re money owed from RiA and Vandalism costs:

The last few visits of the 7500 to CELTIC Park and the toilets have been destroyed and numerous seats damaged. As some posters have pointed out this will probably be worse this time. Does this type of behaviour fall into the category of the ‘unacceptable behaviour not tolerated at CP’?…as we are reminded about very loudly prior to every hime match.

Knowing a crime is very likely to take place, will the police do their job and prevent a crime? They haven’t so far! We pay for the police to do their job, if they don’t can we recover costs from them?

  9. Kojo, I disagree with your logic on the jobs front. Why should our Government favour one large multi-national company using grants and tax benefits over lots of smaller retailers who can’t gain access to this type of support. If they all believe in the capitalist model, compete on a level playing field not one stacked to suit the big guys.

It is, as you say, a fine article, and hits the nail on the head.

I wonder what Cowan’s views are on a newco huns being allowed straight into the SPL?

As for Irvine and Media House, although still owed money by the huns they are still, literally, in the picture.

Ramsay Smith is the guy at Media House who runs the huns account.

And Andrew Dickson, well you couldn’t make it up…….

”AS Rangers’ head of football administration, Andrew Dickson is a key member of the executive team on the business side of the club.

He first joined the Light Blues in 1991 as a qualified chartered accountant and became financial controller in 2001.

It wasn’t long before he was promoted again though and Dickson has occupied his current position since 2003.

His day-to-day role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including football finance at first-team and academy levels and player contracts.

Dickson is also the main point of contact concerning football rules and regulations governing the administration of the game.

A director of Rangers Youth Development, he acts both on behalf of the club and the SPL on a number of external committees too.

Dickson is the SPL member club representative on the SFA General Purpose Committee and the association’s Professional Football Committee.

He is also the club’s representative for the Glasgow FA and is a former member of the SFA’s Disciplinary Committee.

In addition, Dickson is Rangers’ liaison with UEFA for organisational aspects of European fixtures such as Champions League matches.”
