My expectation is Den Bosch will be better than an equivalent second-tier Scottish team (any of whom would give us a game on a summer evening like tonight), so they will hopefully present a suitable challenge to help stretch the legs.
Most attention will focus on Dedryck Boyata, but no matter if he looks great, or lousy, you will learn nothing of his abilities tonight. For Dedryck the objective is to get the limbs and lungs moving, just as with his new team-mates.
I hear Saidy Janko (19) was spotted walking into Ross Hall Hospital this morning. Although known as a right back, Saidy can apparently play right side of central midfield and as a winger. While he’ll be the fourth right back in the first team squad, positional definitions aren’t what they used to be. At Celtic in particular, there’s often little difference between a full back and a winger (the former can hopefully tackle, the latter, less so). They both have a responsibility to make runs into the opposition box, and to track back and defend.
Reports this morning that Dundee United have agreed a £1m fee for Nadir Ciftci with Gary Caldwell’s Wigan will be more palatable to United fans than seeing another player agree terms with direct rivals Celtic. The fee agreed is within Celtic’s grasp, should they be sufficiently motivated to move for the player. After a rising through the ranks, Wigan have endured two relegations in recent years.
They still have Premier League parachute payments coming in, which explains the seven figure bid. It remains to be seen what Dave Whelan’s 23-year-old grandson makes of the opportunity, now he’s in day-to-day control. There’s an old Dutch proverb about families with money going from clogs and back to clogs within three generations.

In the cat world, that sentence can reversed :-)
Decent run out for lads tonight, hopefully a coupe of the kids can hang on in there and a better pathway into the first team will keep them driven and focussed. Much of that will depend on Ronny doing what he said (limiting squad size).
Since the season finished Zaluska, Baldé, Pukki, Tonev, wakaso, Denaya, Guidetti Herron and Charmers have been sold/ released/ returned to their clubs. I am guessing VVD will follow after C/L qualifiers have been negotiated. I would be happy to move on Mathews (23) McGeouch (22) McGregor (22) Boerrigter (28) Stokes (26) fridjonsson (20) Irvine (22) and Rogic (22). Of all those players I think Boerrigter (28) may be the hardest to move.
We would be left with eighteen 1st team players in: Gordon (32), Fasan (21), Jecko (19), Lustig (28), Mulgrew (29), Ambros (26), Boyata (24), Izzy (29), Brown (30), Bitton (23), Henderson (19), Forrest (23), Commons(31), GMS (24), Johansson (24), Armstrong (23), Griffiths (24) and Šćepović (25)
To my mind we need a 1st pick centre back, an up and coming left back and a 1st pick centre forward. That would lead to a total squad size of 21 players excluding youth players. Don’t think we should be spending money on any player unless he is upgrade on what we already have in the squad otherwise what’s the point???

It’s a thundering in ole Leith.
Pedro, I have had one or two platonic relationships in my life. BTW, that doesn’t mean doggy stylee.
How’s the holiday going?
Enjoying the dames game more than the over rated Premiership dive festival.
2 well taken penalties.

Should that be marketing (meerkating:)
sphincter is such a crude word, whereas nubbin and flange retain an air of mysticism. Just ask TOSB.

I take it your far eastern sojourn was the dogs bollocks?
The big goalie looked no too bad tonight. Made a few good stops.

Anyway Ghuys. Celtic won tonight and that makes me happy.
JEEZUS
Whit a thunderclap that wiz! I nearly evacuated my bowels. My sphincter muscle is on fine working order,
I’m glad to hear that Rogic and GMS played well. I had high hopes for the former and continue to hope that he will come good for us. I love the latter’ happy go lucky attitude. He’s also a great player.
Who’s the Gary Liniker stand in wummin – nice, posh lady?

nubbin and flange……a match made in heaven!
Must admit I enjoyed the second half. Ok no as rewarding as the first half but it was mostly the youngsters and they did not get beat.
A fair amount of football played and a few(even if it was fewer) chances made.

Pedro, had a great time in a chaotic and wonderful country. Hadn’t seen Miss acgr for three months so that was great wee dad and daughter moment.
Found the dark side of Cambodia difficult to handle, visiting the gaol in Phnom Penh and the genocide graves but it was worth it.
Went to a WC qualifier which was like watching Montrose V Sevco but with a bigger crowd and had a great night out with your nephew.
The temple stuff was mind blowing. What the ancient Khymer’s did with stone makes the pyramids look like a three day botched building job.
It was brilliant, and I got to fish the Mekong wi ma boy.

Pearce admits he doesn’t know the rules re: awarding of penaly the, without a hint of irony, goes on to berate referees for being poor – nugget.

It might have been the 10 hour shift I worked prior to the match, but I was yawning second half. The young team knocked it about well without end product.

I hope this doesn’t go to extra-time and pens. Can they not have a ‘prettiness’ vote if it’s a draw at full-time?

Tom Rogic and Luke Donnelly impressed me much tonight.
All joking aside – this is actually rubbish.
Off to bed on the mention of “England’s lionesses” – eeuughhh.
Night all – hope the wee Japanese wummen do us all a great favour, and beat England on penalties.

dd,
I never got to see much of it live (even though I paid for it) and reading on here during buffer moments it was a bore fest but what I watched was very encouraging I thought.
They IMO were playing a team that would challenge for a place in the SPFL and did not look too phased, in fact they should have scored a couple. Then again the new goalie made a few decent saves, again more promise.
My point, I could not choose a player who would look out of place in the first team, they would all improve with first team experience as long as there were not too many changes.
And that is what I was looking for, I was not looking for world beaters just young players ready to take their chance if offered.
Feeling no to bad tonight.
But that won’t stop me moaning about the lack of investment :)
