Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

I’m with you mate regarding Jim McGuinness , if he hasn’t been working with the first team ( and it doesn’t look like it ) then he should be now .

Get into their heads and motivate them , it’s what he does .

Yes he was right – it’s not about where you’ve been, or indeed where you are – it’s about about where it is perceived that you are heading – do we know where we are headed for with Ronny?….I think not – so what do we do?

I have never encountered a cfc fan who didn’t want us to win every game never mind the league

We have been a disaster this season ….the odd flat track bullying of some spl crap doesn’t disguise it

It’s actually getting worse …our recent form is appalling ..

A change is required now …..

Ok ronny here’s what you do

Tomorrow morning take the squad into the media room and show them the honest mistakes that we have suffered from … no need to go back to the disgraceful catalogue over the decades …just in your time

Show them the media slant on sevco and how those low life Bassas are getting helped up while we get shafted daily

Then get wee Jay Beatty in to show them what real celtic people are … how much this club means to us ( maybe pay attention to this part yourself ronny )

Then take the players for training and instruct them to channel their anger and frustration on the park to a victory for the good guys over the bad that surrounds us

If you and your players show no improvement – walk away before you shame yourselves

For gawds sake get on the phone to Gordon Strachan for the remainder of the season.

That would (in my humble opinion) prevent the disaster of losing this league.

Longer term we need a proper, experienced manager, whether it be Moyes or whoever.

Erses need kicked, heads need unscrambled, what it means to be Celtic needs to be rammed home.

    Not a minute to lose.

Great article, (especially the final two paragraphs) in the aftermath of such a disappointing result, you’re a fine man an it’s easy to see why your Blog has such a following, that stems from your highly visible love of Celtic.

I was shocked at how poor Celtic were last night, but we’d altered the line up so much in a few days, , – we’d dropped half of the team, so we shouldn’t be that surprised that there is a lack of team spirit.

Ronny has been struggling especially since Ross County and old favourites like James Forrest and Charlie Mulgrew didn’t help him, at home, where our style falters and is now easily suppressed by any visiting SPL side,

Some of the players Ronny has bought have let him down big time, even though he returns them to the side after just days out.

More surprising was the Celtic ‘support’ we were generally in unrecognisable mode , but the maligned Green Brigade weren’t booing, nor the Style Mile led chorus in the Celtic end? It’s funny, does the internet only hear what it wants? or do you just need to be there?

It’s looks very unlikely Ronny can recover sufficiently, that’s twice now you tried to quieten the detractors with ‘’summer talk’ and I’m glad that without the disaster result the haters still predict, and seek on their radios, that our excellent young coaches are still being backed by the power brokers that appointed them in the first place.

I fully expect we’ll rally , in time for the big Glasgow derby and sandwich in some retribution for Neil Lennon’s Morton,

    Hail Hail

BIG CUP WINNERS. Thanks for the link I understand both Ronny and the team are struggling at the moment but I still dont think the time to make a change in manager is now.I know we have a choice to make as a club but I cannot see a new man making a real difference with so few games until the end of the season.I think if we are going to bring in a new manager it should be done at the end of the season. I have admired for a long time your reasonable attitude in your comments and your generosity of spirit.

This would be a better site if more contributors followed your example.

I hear what you say about circling the wagons and supporting the team through this difficult time towards winning the SPFL and SC.

I wonder if you can appreciate the feelings of people like us who have defended the club to the hilt who now genuinely fear for the ability of the management and playing staff to pull this out of the fire.

I don’t think we can afford to wait till the summer.

The manager has to go now and G Strachan be brought in on temporary basis.

    Keep posting m8.

  21. Four points dropped at home by the team in the space of a few days has really shaken us all out of our comfort zone and it’s now fight or flight time for Ronny and his squad. Pressure building on Celtic in the next couple of matches for maximum points. Aberdeen’s path will not be easy either with two of their best players out injured.

  22. Ronny and his Family environment is likely to fail because of Selfish over paid Prima Donnas.

It is an excellent Greenprint but the Existing wans wouldn’t/Couldn’t ……. Last season some of our play was scintilating.

We need to act now or the legue will be lost.

At present I have no confidence of us getting a result against anybody we face.

  25. Can not believe this patter ” The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?”

Fans out of order? Fair enough I’ll buy that but don’t deflect from the real story, these players are massively under performing when did they last come back from a goal down in any game to go on and win?

Come back and we’ll talk in the summer? Too late

Several teams over the years have been forced to or voluntary made change and benefited.

Change now get in someone who knows how to organise a team gain a spike in performances and results then if required change in summer when league is secure, continue as we are and could be a long period of regret.

The fans do not need patronising.

It says a lot for Aberdeen that they could win without their two most influential players last night. I am almost jealous of their fighting spirit and positive attitude.

We may have the better players and squad, but there’s more to winning leagues than that.
