Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

  2. Moneyball was all stats. If we apply to the current Celtic team in terms of defending and attacking we’d be a team looking to change players significantly. Find defenders who have a high % win rate in tackles and headers. Find attackers who have a high rate of on target shots and link up play. Midfielders, high rate of pass success and link up. Wingers who can deliver a cross. Etc. we have been failing on all fronts. Exception tierney, griff and big Erik.

I’ve been a season ticket holder since 1980 and I’m generally a happy clapper however its gone too far,we need a caretaker in to hopefully limp towards the title. The thought of us not winning the title and sevco lording it over us next year is to painful to think about.

Stephen Curry is the greatest sportsman on earth, at this moment in time.

I’d hazard a guess and say that he’s probably the highest paid on the planet as well.

Each and every game though – It’s 100 % effort and commitment – Nothing less.

    Why?

Because the Yanks won’t tolerate anything less, that’s why – They’ll pay these blokes all the money they could wish for, but they have to apply themselves to the maximum, every time they step onto the court, or the field of play – that’s the deal.

Then take a look at European based soccer/football players – petulant beyond belief. That Ronaldo character the wee huffy Messi man etc.

Totally disagree about playing Mulgrew because he’s “not hiding” and playing Commons.

Can’t imagine any other manager putting up with Mulgrew walking off the park or Commons tantrums.

Problem is Ronny is to nice, we need an angry manager.

His goal to shots ratio is not great.

    He is looking increasingly selfish.

In his defense the service to him is poor forcing him wider and deeper in search of a pass resulting in to many speculative shots.

He no longer looks to pass.

Our system whatever it is supposed to be offers little threat and zero defensive qualities.

Our players seem to be positioned in isolation all over the field.

Not showing for throw ins is a sign of fear and being afraid to leave their allowed position.

Get a proper coach in now or the league is in peril.

For a long, long time this site has been my almost exclusive source of Celtic news, but of late the news stories and opinion have taken on a decidedly (in my humble opinion) soup-taking slant. House of Cards ?

    Puppet Chain Of Command ?

    Crowds falling by the week.

Ronny is not the type of guy that ye want tae see going through a carnage era….the carnage was there before Ronny arrived, he’s a guid big guy but, he threw his hat into the ring for a managerial post at Celtic.

All managers talk to each other…off the record….so, did Ronny walk into Celtic Park blindfolded ?

Or, does the menu that he was sold on…be at odds with what’s in the ‘real’ menu ?

We can all speculate as to what will happen next.

I’ve been saying for years on here that, the dynamics of Celtic FC / PLC are….

A, collusive, kowtowing, deceitful, shameless executive hierarchy, with an array of accountants who it seems are, unaccountable for the financial wastage / mismanagement of resources.

A, supporter base who are powerless all year round until they get to, SB-renewal time by which time of the year…the hierarchy, usually have the supporters with their eye’s off the ball being fed a stream of fruitless tales about prospective transfer targets and….ending up with a choice on the managers list that is not a priority….once, the hierarchy have swallied the SB-renewal money.

Another key point is the powder-puff AGM.

Ah mean wtf is that all about ?

Ah mean, despite tens of thousands of innocent, well meaning Celtic folk buying shares to contribute to the well being of the club, Celtic supporters are where they were under the Kelly’s & White’s, McCann and now, Desmond, on the outside of the club that your money saved, rebuilt the stadium, paid off debt’s and, filled Fergus’s going away suit case….yer still, outside…..looking in.

What’s happening just now, puts me in mind of the ole Gloria Estefan song – “Apathy’s gonna get you”….with a play on the words, ye’ll see whit ah mean.

The hierarchy sense a storm brewing.

Don’t forget that these guisers will play out every trick in the book to head-off any fan-revolt at the passe.

Ye know what……I’m starting to think that, when Greame Spiers said that Celtic should go for, McInnes to replace Ronny…that might just be the ‘sleekit’ plan ?

    Think about it.

Celtic bring in McInnes….the fans tear themselves apart over the appointment….meanwhile, the deid huns arrive on the scene whilst, Celtic’s hierarchy have got the fans on a hook…got the fans taking a leaf from the hierarchies book….the wan were ye look the other way, especially if…..Auldheid and his res:12 rebels don’t bring home the bacon from the hun court cases….there are a lot of twisted minds on the hierarchy, that’s why so that ye don’t get caught out by them….ye have think the way they do….only faster.

I still think that there are a lot of fans who don’t realize what John Collins could bring to the table.

Sometimes the thing that yer looking for can be right under yer nose….sometimes.

Oh, and btw….I know that I mentioned wastage of resources etc above but, I think that there are a lot of guid players at Celtic Park, they just need someone to tune them in.

Folk say that, Collins is arrogant….was that not arrogance at it’s hun best from Commons over in Molde and, he walked back into the team after it.

I still say that a trick is being missed re : Collins.

Remember, the Celtic hierarchy are not dafties…they’re sharks…don’t under estimate the deceitful levels that they’ll stoop to.

    Only saying…..

God Bless All Celtic Supporters and, Thank You Again.

I’m glad to read today that the calamitous performance last night is the focus for the players and management to clear the air today among themselves. I’ll be at the cup-tie on Sunday hoping to watch a visibly improved effort from any of last night’s team lucky enough to be picked again.

From my perspective, half of our outfield players were out-run, out-muscled, out-fought and out-played by their immediate opponent: in no particular order of incompetence Armstrong, Brown, Lustig, Mulgrew and Rogic. Add to that two teenagers, one of whom requires rehydration even during the first half of any game to avoid later cramps presumably, makes for a sore watch at present.

I suggest we drop the emphasis on possession and let the game flow as it should, reach the final third of the pitch and provide chances, especially more shots at goal.

Well played Dundee. I hope you’ll see a different Celtic team at Den’s Park soon, sometime before the split.

What good is wisdom when it brings no profit to the wise?

    Fitter, faster, stronger…

    Never materialised.

Sideways passing, or ‘recycling’ to give it a catchier title, ad infinitum until the ball is returned to Craig Gordon and is humped up the park to inevitably not stick…

    Our Bread & Butter.

Money spent as good as wasted – Ciftci (Our main target that window), Carlton Cole (Who’s knees, I’m reliably informed are done and will be lucky to show the rest of this season), Simunovic – must have came injured, must have.

Still spending large enough sums to acquire players who should be a whole lot better than what we’re getting.

Unexpressive play & players – like a spiral turning in on itself as opposed to the expected explosion radiating outwards.

Basically the cream of young Scottish talent played or not played into nervous, self doubting, unfit/overfit injury prone lightweights.

A horrendous, embarrassing PR and media strategy (I’m no playing him, no, I am playing him. He’s not ready. Oh wait, he is ready. No place for him. Oh wait! I want him to stay) culminating in Deila stating he’s having ‘clear the air talks’????

Is he insane? He’s presently the manager and should expect those under his charge to do as asked, if they don’t then he should drop them and find someone who will or wait until the proper response is attained.

The pitch side coaching trio’s body language smack of guys frozen by fear into inactivity, trusting to type even when that is patently failing them. Players like Commons and Mulgrew – straight in the team after lay offs – no under 21 games or bounce games. Subs borne of desperation not tactics.

And team so emotionally lightweight that they mentally keel over at the first whiff of mishap or danger.

Either sack him and let the new guy in for an idea of what we have in time for next season. Or sack him and get a seasoned stand-in for the end of this season.

Talk of 10 in a row, get behind the team and ‘big changes in the summer’ is doing the support no favours.

I steadfastly denounce the booing from last night. But I received too many texts and messages stating that that game might have been one of the worst -EVER- and certainly worse than the Strachan/Motherwell debacle at home.

There’s no easy change or decision here. Keeping Deila is a title risk in my opinion. I have already spoken to two fans today that are dreading Sunday – because we’re up against a good footballing side – and if they bring their A game…?
