Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

There’s a good reason why Paul67 wants you (and me and every other fan) to wait until May and that is, this blog will probably disappear then. It’ll have done its job by then.

What are the chances of tomorrow’s blog being about Dudu Dahan’s relationship with Celtic and all of the people involved?

No likely I shouldn’t wonder as that would mean news about Celtic, real news. Something this blog hasn’t got involved in, in many years.

Far more likely to see some drivel about Sevco or wishing we were in the EPL or mibbery or OBF, i.e., the things that are directly within Celtic’s control, or not as the case may be.

Just watched Deila’s press conference on Sky sports

He looked haunted and garbled some nonsense about clearing the air

IMO he is out of his depth and in a job where he lacks the necessary capabilities …

This isn’t a recent development …we’ve been poor for most of this season…happily Aberdeen aren’t great or we’d be in even bigger difficulties

    Shame on the players.

Why was KC given a new deal?

Who next for the top job? No outstanding candidates.

  4. There was an obvious bounce in performances post Canary Islands visit last year, what happened to cause this? If it is only about talking things through and agreeing a way forward why is this only happening now? I think we has seen many lows this season , I do wonder what these coaches do all day for 5 or 6 days a week .

  5. No matter how we are playing….STILL top of the league & in SC and we have radio scotland saying when not if………RD goes

  7. Glendalystonsils…………..Sure, but they were playing the team that’s bottom of the league and you would expect them to win that game. But Celtic are to blame for allowing Aberdeen back into the contest just when they appeared to be losing their way. Should be a great finish to the Championship.

  8. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Look Bhoys we have two big games coming up at Parkhead Morton in the cup and Aberdeen in the league now in my opinion we have the players at the club who are capable of winning both games now beat Morton and we are in the semi final of the Scottish cup beat Aberdeen and in my opinion we will win the league by a distance. I hold to the view to make a managerial change at the moment would not be the right time and a panic measure. We did not lose the last two matches we drew them so lets leave Ronny and the team get themselves together and let us the Celtic support give them as much support as possible. H.H.

  9. Captain Beefheart on

Ronny has been undermined by a pathetic signing policy(what went wrong?) and by a monster munch mentality from some players.

I want 10-in-a-row. I’ve said before we need to avoid loss of the league becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. I also think on balance we stick with Ronny until the end of the season and pray the bookies are right making us 1/25 to win it.

However, there needs to be reckoning in the summer for the mess we’re in. And that isn’t limited to Ronny Deila. Lawwell’s time is up. He’s had a good run and earned a lot of money. Time for fresh ideas and fresh leadership.

  12. Stars

Deluded, idiot, sap, ostrich, just a few of the things I and others have been called today for believing in RD, he talked a good game, his ideas are up there, that imo can’t be taken away from him, so to call us these things is wrong.

The fact is he can’t deliver them, but I defy anyone would have know that at the start of his tenure.

Hindsight is the foresight of the gobshite.

  13. Supporting the team is not going to make Ronny’s tactics and selection improve.

On many occasions particularly in Europe the fans got behind the team and were subjected to dismal performances.

The fans are not the problem.

The players hold some responsibility but the real culprits are the coaches.

A limited poorly implemented system is the real issue.

A coach who despite plenty of evidence that it does not work continually repeats the same folly.

I do not care if Ronny is a decent man .

He is employed as a coach and at that he is hopeless.

The only way we will win the league is if the players grow angry and win despite the poor system and tactics.

That will mean showing for the ball, passing in a forward direction and tackling like they mean it.

We face a lot of adversity from the league.refs and mssm for the title but the biggest obstacle will be the coaching.

Lets hope our players and fans overcome.

  14. Good evening friends.

It seems patently obvious that Ronny will not be in charge come the start of next season. I think that too many fans, both attenders and SMSM-influenced non attenders, have made their mind up that they want him out. Even if we win every game remaining I don;t think many would change from their current stance. But I personally think that changing manager now (who is it that we think would take over short term?) is a very dangerous strategy.

A lot of folk point out that if we wait till after the cup final we’d only have about 7 weeks to the Champions League qualifiers. But that’s only a factor provided we win the league in the first place and my own view is that I’d favour sticking rather than twisting. Perhaps there’s a halfway house if the gap then extends back to maybe 9 or so points? Then again, getting rid of Ronny with say 3 or 4 games left to win a double would be pretty harsh, no?

Anyway, got my ticket through the door for Morton – front row of upper north stand, area 405. On the plus side I might get served pretty quickly for my half time lunch ;-)

  15. Why is ‘the summer’ being referred to as some sort of period of calm, a hiatus?

‘The summer’ is Celtic’s most important time, ffs.

CL qualifying which absolutely defines EVERYTHING for the coming season.

Action is required NOW to prepare for ‘the summer’.

  16. PF

Don’t mind replying to you mate, (I know you are a Celtic supporter)

I think Celtic have bought poorly, and by and large the coaches are irrelevant.

Similar coaches appointed by Peter Lawell and company, even with a different strategy, possibly more defensive, would over the piece have a similar record to Ronny Deila * that’s one League won and another on the way *

This is not news and has been posted ad nauseum, – but the tide turned a long time ago on ‘the management team’ but not the boardroom.

How plain does Paul67 need to be without turning into the fag end that don’t support Celtic? yet can log on to the internet to pretend that they do?

my 2 bob would be to get someone in before the title is chucked. I dont see where the goals are to come from and i have no confidence in the team to beat anyone. Not a Knee jerk either we have been poor all season and I think he will be replaced quicker if we lose in cup.

  19. Paul talks about 10 in a row however if the board really believed that they were cheated by the dead Huns then by now we are well past 10!

All it would take would be to challenge the nonsense that was Nimmo Smith and the SFA/SPL.

Let’s get real here – people who pay the wages are perfectly entitled to air their views.

The club is moribund from top to bottom – that is not the fault of the fans who season after season provided most of the money that runs the club.

The real blame lies with those who appointed a guy with nowhere near enough experience to manage a club our size.

We urgently need a real professional in the dugout to see us over the line.

Should the unthinkable come to pass then it would be more than the coaching staff that would deserve chased down the Celtic Way!

The board should have convened immediately after the game last night and instructed PL to sack the incompetent head coach and his equally culpable assistants.

They should have been on the phone to DD by 10pm and agreed on who we would approach to get us to the end of the season – all this nonsense about waiting until May is just more prevarication and buck passing.

We have a huge squad that must be wasting millions every year on duds and nearly men.

We desperately need a real professional to set about cutting the dross and getting some guys would have the required mental and physical strength that is needed to play for us!

That depends on the current situation within Lennoxtown. If players are splitting into factions with little unity while Ronny is in charge, we may be better off cutting ties now.

Kris Commons as player manager until season’s end.
