Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

That depends on the current situation within Lennoxtown. If players are splitting into factions with little unity while Ronny is in charge, we may be better off cutting ties now.

Kris Commons as player manager until season’s end.

Really crazy but hey, what do I know, as long as it is very short term thinking.

I am not taking offence, I really don’t give a feck, I just think it’s wrong, and the gobshite wasn’t aimed at you, it was a general view, there was very few who doubted him, amazing how they now were right all along, that was who the hindsight thing was aimed at, you have been consistant :-)

I don’t believe his ideas are wrong, I just can’t see him delivering them, sadly.

  3. BBC being very fair in their analysis – Paul67 sounded bewildered and I don’t blame him.

I am sorry to say this, but the common denominator in all we say is Ronny – he has not been able to stamp a confident personality on the manager’s job.

Paul knows that the manager is the problem but won’t say so – he is crossing his fingers and hoping we can see out the season.

We have some very nervous times ahead of us over the next two months.

In a perverse sort of way, I found the behaviour of our fans quite amusing last night …..for 80 minutes, instead of encouraging the players to raise their game / confidence levels, there were disgusting, childish ‘resounding boos’ every time a Celtic player did ANYTHING wrong…..then, with 10 minutes to go, they suddenly decided that actually SUPPORTING the team might help …… One of those, oh shoite moments ….. Laughable and pathetically disgusting……haven’t read back, and don’t intend to ….HH to those who resisted the booing last night……

If you think things are bad at the moment, wait til next season when you get your wish of seeing sevco in the flesh (pardon the phun) …..all the cheating and bigoted handshakes will start all over again…….you reap what you sow…….we should have been boycoting EVERY away game for the past 3 seasons….

Lets assume we win the SPL and the Scottish cup Ronny and the Bhoys will have won 4 out of 6 trophies in two seasons how can anyone call him a failure unless of course you expect to win a European trophy which for me is unrealistic. This has been a tricky season for Ronny and the Bhoys as we lost our two quality centre backs from last season and to a certain extent we have struggled to replace them. Now I do have one concern about Celtic at the moment and that is our signing policy that does need to be changed as we have signed far to many players who will never be first team regulars now if that is down to Ronny it is an area where he can improve.H.H.

Since the players seem to be able to decide they don’t like X y or z and just decide not to play so that the manager is removed, we could always try a new policy.

Let the players submit a list of requirements.

Let the players interview the candidates.

Let them pick who they like.

  8. hopefully when he has a clear the air discussion with the players, the players will tell him to play them in their strongest positions, play a 3-5-2 and get those stupid monitors off their chests!!

MR.PASTRY. I think we will win the SPL the Scottish cup will depend if we can get the better of cheating refs.I honestly think we are allowing panic to set in and for me it is MSM led you only need to listen to the questions they ask Ronny that they would not dare to ask any other manager. It was a bold move appointing him, it was the right thinking imo, but sadly hasn’t or isn’t working out, the support virtually to a man have lost faith, so he has to go.

The rearing of the weans has to carry on, it’s the only way forward for us.

If Pedro is not for changing, he has to get a coach who is used to having players bought for him, Spain is full of them.

Firstly, really sorry for Scott Fox that he will miss league cup final…

Speaking to the auld yins noo…how many times over the years, since the Jimmy McGrory days, did you come home on a Saturday night and say, “That’s it! Never again. I’m not going back. Pure rubbish.” ??? And yet, here we are, decades later still supporting the Bhoys. If it’s in your blood, it’s in your blood and there is not a lot you can do about it. You can change your wife, your religion, your friends, even your underpants but you can’t change your team, especially if your team is Celtic.

  19. Thunder Road on

Personally i feel part of our players performances are down to over coaching.

To me our players have to try to pass to specific men upon receiving the ball themselves as per what they have been coached to do in order to create our pattern of play and style.

Are our players now trying to do exactly as they are told to do, but in doing so is any option of improvisation removed from them when faced with a different scenario than they should?

An individuals split second decision making and speed of thought chained because they need to do what they are told to do rather than doing what was open to them at that time and gradually any confidence has been stripped from them and they are quite happy to take the easy option and pass the ball and the buck back to someone else.

Wingers that get played on the opposite wing in order for them to turn back inside and not take their man on but keep the ball moving back the way it had came once again.

Are our players curbed from taking a man on and need to make a pass instead?

I feel that this is a factor in the erosion of our players individual confidence and its took an affect on not only the team, but the squad.

No place for individual thinking any more and its creating robots, players then devoid of their natural gifts like passion, fight, speed, craftiness, etc., because they had to leave these things in the dressing room to go and do what they are told instead of what they are good at.

The thing about that is that any manager studying what we do will set up his team accordingly to counteract that and every time it happens, the next opposition manager is seeing how it worked and knows its the way to stop, or at the very least hinder us.

Mancini was the 1st that i saw doing it, when he had 2 men pressed up tight on Denayer and Van Dyke to stop us building from those 2 and its then carried on right to last night and Hartley had 5 or 6 players pressing right up onto every 1 of our defenders and central midfielder’s to force it long or stop us before we even got out our half.

To me it all needs ripped up and we get back to basics.

Players need to get a remit to go out there and play to their strengths once again……take the chains off them and lets see what they can really do.

  20. I still support our Ronny, he could use a little Scottish steel tempered with Irish fire in him though.

    Hail Hail.

  21. Just watched the whole match on Celtic TV and it was even worse than I imagined. There was only one team in it for the last 10 minutes and it was not us. We were lucky to get a point. No wonder they were booed off the park. What was James Forrest doing even in the squad, only that clown of a manager knows.

    Good Comment.

It was refreshing to see such an attacking defence against Celtic @ Celtic Park.

Well Done PH as well for being Brave.

    Fortune favours the Brave.

  25. In a word yes, Roy Keane was who I wanted when Neil decided to go. However I think Ronny Deila given time could really build something special here, but as we have no money to change the entire squad and culture at Celtic overnight it’s going to be slow and painful. If not we could just bring in Jason Vorhees as manager that should motivate the dressing room, the silent but violent type.

    Hail Hail.

I’m the one you had an argument with, I don’t know if you will remember, when i said their was problems with the players and the coaching staff particularly John Collins.

I am no more convinced now than I was then.

I hoped despite the problems, that we would overcome.

I am interested to know if, by now you can see it.
