Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

    And everyone else staying away.

    Celtic needs you.

I have always held the opinion that I love my club more when things aren’t going well. I remember a sense of pride in those who refused to leave at Ibrox when 4-0 down when Dalglish was the “manager”.

We stood with pride and took defeat.

Martin O’Neill came along not long afterwards.

We need to win this league. We have to get together to do it – players, management and supporters.

Celtic Park these days reminds me of our season at Hampden when Fergus was building our 60,000 stadium. The results are getting scarily similar too. Glad we have a run of away games after Sunday.

I said about him a while back, along with Paco from Rayo, they are coaches who could work under the present conditions, their teams play quality football on a very small budget.

  3. I doubt I can add any further comment to those aimed at the last 2 performances. I’ve had my reservations since day one – its manifested itself at numerous times during the past 20+ months – unfortunately its now come to fruition.

It reminds me of the tale of the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. RD arrived with the ‘Coaching for Dummies’ tucked under his arm – produced the; spreadsheets, pie charts, health/fitness statistics – did the interview and was given charge of the workshop. All those mini-coaching courses at; Bayern/Dortmund/Barca/Liverpool/Man City and wherever were utilised to make his pressing 4-2-3-1 theory work. When it didn’t and it started getting away from him – he literally axed basics for multiple mid-fielders and square pegs in round holes.

The madness is now all around him. He is out of his depth!

    We (CFC and the Support) are facing 4 potential catastrophes;

    1) Possible capitulation in the League Title race (given points difference).

    2) An insipid struggle to get over the line and ill prepared for CLQs in July.

    3) S. Cup exit (not necessarily at the hands of Morton).

    4) And a nightmare scenario where having exited the S. Cup and (God forbid) the ‘undead’ were to go on and win it. We would never be allowed to live that one down!

The Board need to make a <radical decision following Sunday’s cup-tie – plans need to be put in place (internally) to ensure that the players and coaching staff (notwithstanding termination of contracts) understand the gravity of the situation.

IMO – it’s stick or twist time (and may God have mercy on all us Souls that are along for the ride from now till season end)!

    H!H!

Firstly they do need to apologise and not to me but to all of us as a support. They have taken us for granted, criminalised us, ignored us, abused us and want us to be racist fodder. All so they can make money.

If they did? Well at least it’s a start. I think we would then want to know what’s going to change and when?

But it’s a moot point. They ain’t saying nothin and they are hpoing you will buy the jam tomorrow nonsense. They have no respect for us at all.

    They are in hiding.

Ronny has been an unmitigated disaster but I find it disgusting that they are leaving him out there to front all this alone.

    Don’t you?

And change the paradise windfall to the winner gets to play the second half

  7. Thunder Road

I think coaching in general, and modern systems like ‘high pressing’ including Ronny Deila’s, is over emphasised in what’s really wrong at Celtic, and was from before his squad kicked a ball.

We’ve had internet trumpets, and the Huns we work with every day singing from the same hymsheet

Different coach, even an ultra defensive Moyes would /could bring very similar results.

Ronny has bought badly to play in, his ideology, and that’s largely down to the budget, in which Celtic work today.

Next summer, is a code for where we are, and what will happen.

Any away game tickets you can get on Saturdays (x2) and don’t be going out yer way to get them, if you can then I’d Love to be in with Support again.

  11. Winning captains like you I loved our defiance. It made me very proud.

But the cancer at the heart of Celtic is the board. They are fleecing us. Destroying us. Abusing us.

If we circle the wagons they will be in the middle shooting at us along with all our enemies.

    Their betrayal is absolute.

If the Celtic you talk about is the one I believe in too Celtic do need us.

They need us to do what it takes to remove the cancer. Paul is talking guff about change. They have no intention to change.

We need to to starve them out and protest them out.

Or the Celtic we want will die.

    Feyenoord

1963 Cup final replay against RFC

    Morton v. Celtic circa 1963

Celtic v St Mirren Cup semi at Ibrox

St Mirren v Celtic 1978 (Jock’s last season). There were some stinkers that season.

Roughly half of all Mowbray games and three-quarters of all Macari games.

The ICT Cup game at CP

The Falkirk Cup semi at Ibrox. (I think it was Tommy’s last game in charge.)

    And the list goes on.

I suggested Slavin Bilic, but that day has passed. We now have Ronny and I think he will be the man to take us to the promise land ,IF,

He has the bottle to stand up for his principles,I believe he has a view of the future ,the way he wants his team to play, but has he a strong another character to see it through.

I have followed Celtic for 60 years ,so I will not change my love of our club but also I will allow our new manager time

  18. Talking to one of my fellow Celtic Supporter at the game last night said to him look around us a half empty stadium, no atmosphere, my feelings were of nothing for my team that’s what this Board at Celtic Football Club has done to me and thousands of good Celtic men and women, Sad so Sad.

  19. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

    Paul

I’ m going to be seriously upset if what you say accurately reflects the thinking of the Board. The end of the season is far too late be holding the inquest. They should be currently holding the inquest and burning the midnight oil until it is complete and act quickly to sort out this mess. Wasting 10 games when we all know now that Ronny will not be here next season shows a shocking lack of decisiveness. There is no excuse for this and if we squander this 4 point lead and lose this league title due to the ineptitude of those at the top then Peter Lawell and others must follow the manager out of the door. It will be of great interest to see how many season tickets will be sold on the back of a League title loss.

  21. Weebobby God knows this is nothing personal against Ronny. If a up of us were asked to manage Celtic we all would. He should never have been asked. He was a cheap and easy option. It was about money and Moneyball. Not football.

But where are our board? Hiding? Showing that they are cowards. Letting Ronny take all the flak alone. It’s their fault.

    Isn’t that pathetic?
