Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

Dundee will win by 2 goals at the weekend …. and celtic will also win by at least 2 goals

I think aberdeen will drop points against thistle midweek … and we will beat thistle next weekend while the sheep drop even more points against killie .

SID. Fella you would need to be blind not to see all is not well at Parkhead at the moment. The area of contention is what to do about it and I if you want to read back you will see I am not in the get rid of Ronny camp and I have explained my reasons why.I think he should get to the end of the season when we can assess how this season finished I still believe we will win the League and are in with a shout of winning the Scottish cup if we win both it will have been a good season. Now I dont remember arguing with your good self Im sure we might have had a discussion not an argument. H.H.

The Board has over estimated our margin for error to the point of negligence. They thought they could bring in a relatively inexperienced manager, sell his best players from under him and still win the league comfortably. It seems they were wrong. I also can’t fathom the recruitment strategy. Why so many samey midfielders? Why so many rubbish forwards? Why oh why Carlton Cole and Kazim Richards? Strange and rudderless decisions that have undermined Ronny.

We’ve been our own worst enemy.

sweet mother of the divine we are geech at the moment, there’s no solution but to see the ten games through, cross out fingers someone somewhere finds a bit of form and then scrape through next year too

  8. This whole season has been a struggle, CL, EL, LC,, all disasters. Will we win anything this season? With this clown as manager, it is certainly not a gimme. Surely anything less than a win on Sunday means the end for him.

  9. So other than the Management Team, who else should be leaving Celtic’s employment this close season ( and I ain’t referring to the board :-)) ?

Guess there’s a wee tipping point between sticking to what you believe in and seeing what you are trying to do failing to work.

Is it all down to those players?

Perhaps Ronny has already fell for sticking to what he believe’s in……at the moment id say so……perhaps its just one of those wee bad spells though and we will get back into enough of a groove to see this season through and out on a high.

Some serious decision making required in the summer though.

  11. Pauls leader really shows how bad things are at Celtic.

For him to suggest that it’s all the Celtic fans fault for having the temerity to boo and show their displeasure really does highlight the lack of leadership, accountability and responsibility at Celtic.

The board are basically in hiding. They know that they have stewed up, but they aren’t about to admit it nor do anything about it. So they put out guff about the supporters not behaving themselves.

It’s pathetic but it’s no surprise.

Tell you what Paul, when you get back from your latest gig at the racist bbcscotland perhaps you can tell the board that the Celtic fans don’t buy the absolute cock and bull story about Celtic changing in the summer.

Didn’t our esteemed chairman tell us when the half year accounts were published recently that the strategy remains the same?

So don’t give us nonsense like this. It’s just lies.

They, like you, hope that we will get caught up in the wave of racism that the Huns bring with them. That we will resume the role of plucky underdog and accept that we will be cheated and lied to and called paranoid. Back to the back of the bus.

    It is absolutely disgusting.

Tell you what Paul, why don’t your beloved board actually say something? Why don’t they apologise to us both for their mistakes, their constant attacks on us and their collusion in corruption? Why don’t they t love us what they are going to do different and maybe we can start to build some trust?

Or are they too busy calling us racists and colluding with police Scotland to do that?

They are discredited, defunct, corrupt, clueless and now in full hiding mode (while panicking).

The last 4 years, where we had an opportunity to push on, they chose to downsize still further and adopt Moneyball and ignore the support. It’s failure on a catastrophic level and it is endangering our very existence.

You deserve as much “credit” for this as the board Paul. After all you have been peddling their propaganda.

So now it’s more jam tomorrow. Obey us and we will change.

    Bollocks.

I’m not sure I’d be overly concerned with anyone on the playing or management side leaving

I find it embarrassing that young Teirney barely more than a youth team player is consistently our most effective player …no slight on the young lad but that shouldn’t be happening

That’s progress you now see their is a problem, you didn’t back in October.

I then find it strange that you think the best way to deal with that is yo do nothing and run with that problem.

How many times have we seen unhappy players turn good teams bad?

Mourinho this season is perfect example, if it can happen to Jose it can happen to Ronny.

How many times have we seen instant positive change by the same players with only a management change?

The status quo is more risky than change imo. HH

Timjim…why are you calling RD a clown? Even if he is not good enough, is he not trying his best? I just don’t understand the insults. It was the same with Moyes and now LVG at Man Utd. These guys want to be successful, sometimes the job is tougher than anticipated and they just can’t cut it. However, to fire off insults is wrong, No?

“I have never encountered a cfc fan who didn’t want us to win every game never mind the league”

Let me assure you that this exact comment was made by 4 separate fans either side of the rows I occupied.

3 fans audibly said “I hope Dundee beat us if it helps get rid of him (Deila) by the morning). Another one walked away with his face unmolested after stating “I hope we lose the league as its the only he will get sacked”

No exaggeration- no mishearing- no agenda- these were just guys sharing one of the seats near me. I don’t think there was any form of extreme mineshafting AGM going on in my vicinity. If this was being repeated in all areas of the stadium, there would have been close to 500 fans willing to audibly state those views while attending a match.

I think they have even been posted on CQN.

So you must be mixing with a very upbeat crowd if you have never heard these views stated :-)

I would start with John Park, before the many many players he has overseen us sign, and who are nowhere near the team, in fact possibly the full scouting network ?

  18. Joe Filippis Haircut on

SID. What ever we do is not without risk but we have already invested 18 months in Ronny and I believe the status quo is less risky than sacking him.I may be the only Celtic supporter who believes we will win the league and have a good chance of winning the Scottish cup but there you go thats what I believe. For me the support need to get behind him and the team and not panic during this trying time. H.H.

I still support Ronny, but sitting in the Jock Stein stand last night, I became convinced that he must be replaced. When 90% of our home support scream abuse at our manager, his time is up. He has lost support amongst the hard core. Sadly I had hoped he would be here 5 years to implement fully his strategy. The Big question is his replacement?

  20. HT and SFTB posting inside minutes of each other

Which one was on winning side at 5’s ?

  21. I would imagine that the decision to continue with the present head coach and his coaches has been made and is not being changed/reviewed until the end of the season, Paul’s blog today and his interview on RS tonight where the horrible McIntyre asked him as he knew people on the board, he [Paul] said now is not the time.

I do not agee with Paul

  22. weebobbycollins on

Neganon…why should the board apologise to you? And if PL came out and said, “Neganon, we are really sorry. Please accept our apology.” How would you respond?

No need for the apols, but when you think about it, would he be any worse :-)

Seriously tho, we need to do something to get the players motivated, and JMcG might just be the answer cos it’s needed big time and the present coaches are failing badly.

  25. Slaven Bilic for me…….promise him a better salary than he’s getting……and yes….we could afford it. Promise European games that he won’t get with his present club…….promise him fame, glory and hero status for the rest of his natural life…..once he’s delivered the goods. He’s done it with his national team and he’s doing it with ham n eggs.

  29. Wonder who this is about? Perhaps a young coach given up on to soon?

….. On 26 November 2012, however, following a 0–2 home loss against Getafe CF that left the Pericos in last place with just nine points from 13 matches, his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Maurico Pochettino, aged 40 sacked by Getafe. Now on cusp of Epl title with Spurs.

Aye once the support don’t support you any more, it’s tatties, shame as the ideas and ideals are spot on imo.

There will be plenty who would and could do a grand job, even under the present conditions, as I said earlier, Spain is full of them.
