Derision, hiding, wanting to win the league?

935

I don’t know is that was the worst home performance I’ve seen, but it was up there. We look like a broken team. Dundee were comfortable throughout, limited Celtic to one genuine chance in the game (in the 76th minute), and caused havoc during their regular attacks on Craig Gordon’s goals. Their best chance came from a corner kick (what else), which was sent over by a player who stopped to head the ball from 5 yards.

Charlie Mulgrew is not the most gifted player, he’s not a central midfielder and he’s not game-fit yet, but despite putting in an indifferent shift last night, he never hid.  The juxtaposition between him and others was stark.  We need players with attitude – the captain back on form, Kris Commons fully fit and starting, and others taking their lead.

Confidence is on the floor. Mistakes, backwards passing and long balls forward were all subject to derision, but I think last night was the first time I’ve heard a Celtic substitute being booed onto the field.  All because he doesn’t want to renew a contract for his position as occasionally-used squad player.  The seriousness of the situation is clearly lost on those who want to boo a player taking the field instead of encouraging the guy to help us win a game.  The whole experience got me thinking, how many of us actually want to win this league?

You better believe they want to win it at Pittodrie.  They have focus, form, packed stands and patience.  They also enjoy the ‘Leicester City effect’ – everyone not competing directly with them wants them to win.  The rest of Scottish football is desperate for us to tear ourselves apart right now.  We need to circle the wagons, live up to the reputation we like to think we have, and play our role in delivering this title.

You want 10-in-a-row?  Bring me your complaints in May, but for now get your shoulder to the wheel.  This is not our first performance crisis and it won’t be our last, as a collective, we need to be smart in dealing with these situations.

Everyone at Celtic Park (and beyond) knows this is not good enough, and there’s going to need to be big changes in the summer, but we need to get our act together and put the inquest on hold until the end of the season.

That’s exactly why there is no point in removing RD. Our downsizing will continue, probably with a ‘bright young coach with a European CV’

The problem has always been above Ronny’s pay grade. It starts right at the top, with a CEO whose ego is out of control, and a controlling-stake shareholder who has relinquished control.

That’s a lot of control, and none of it being directed properly.

‘There are some obvious mistakes thrown up by the algorithm. The last battle on mainland British soil, according to the map, happened in 2008. This was when rioting took place in Manchester as Glasgow Rangers played Zenit Saint Petersburg in the UEFA Cup final. Some of the press reported the event as the “Battle of Piccadilly”, a headline mentioned in the footnotes of the Wikipedia article on it. This seems to have been enough to trigger Nodegoat’s algorithm, ensuring its inclusion on the map.’

Someone better inform the Daily Record;they still insist nothing untoward happened.

One cup tie and two away league games before an International break should give the players the chance to show they have what it takes to win both the league and the cup in the same season. Next game after that is a home game against Hearts on April 2nd. I’m hoping that by then (regardless of any changes needed at all levels in the club) that both the team and the supporters are a whole lot closer than they are right now.

  10. Last night was one of the poorest displays by so called supporters that I have witnessed – from the first misplaced pass the grumbles started and grew louder as the game went on

You could see that players were increasingly scared to try anything for fear of making a mistake of course resulting in more boos

Here is an idea – for every game between now and the end of the season lets SUPPORT the team through thick and thin – when a player makes a mistake let’s sing his name and cheer the team even louder – it might make a difference – it certainly won’t make things worse

The time for the inquest – and that is definitely required – is after we secure the title

Reading back and seeing a few comments about an off form Scott Brown. When is he ever in form ?

  16. At approx 4:45 on Saturday April 5, 2004 the air at Parkheid was rendered to the chant ‘Strachan Strachan GTF”, the week before we had also lost 0-1 to the deid team at the bigot pit.

My mind reverted back to a game 29 year before, my last game at that evil place, we were top of the League prior to ko, but lost to their only 3 shots on goal while the ball battered off the ugly face of football’s heid, face, arms, legs, erse etc, as we walked down edminston drive the air was filled with “Celtic ha ha ha”.

One week later and the 10 men steelmen beat us again at Parkheid. Having played 2 games more we were now 6 points behind the horribles with only 7 games to play. Was history repeating itself?

CQN was not a nice place that night, especially when a follower of the dark side came on gloating.

And yet something magical happened 8 days later when we went tae Fir Park and won 4-1.

3 days later and only 20 seconds intae the game Barry Robson flattened Scotland’s oldest teenager. We were up for this.

With 15 minutes to go and the game tied 1-1 WGS (who 11 days prior was told to GTF) in an effort to grab the winner made an inspired substitution by replacing hard man Barry Robson with the enigmatic Georgios Samaras.

As the game entered intae time added on for the injury sustained to mcshagger, baldy, mcsleekit, naesurmae, durranty and the ugliest bus driver on the planet were giving it high fives, hugs and lifting their trooser legs as well as bearing their right Partick smiddys, the much maligned Georgios with his back to the goal received the ball out on the old jungle side and passed it back tae another much maligned player the Heid.

Gary flighted a perfect cross tae the heid of Skippy on the left side of the box who nodded it back intae the goal where big Jan Vinegar of Castlemilk with a glance of the noddle sent Parkheid intae raptures.

Further victories over the sheep, huns again, FCM again and the Hibbees led us tae Tommy Burns Thursday, the only time the season has ended on that day, as a result of the cheats requesting an extension tae the League.

Again big JVoH did the damage on a night when even the Kaiser made an appearance.

As big Billy once said there is something magical about this club.

That something that April/May were Paul Hartley and Barry Robson.

    Step forward our 2016 magicians.

  18. It’s very interesting that the fans get stick on CQN articles far more regularly than the board do (which to be fair, is pretty much never) or the Celtic management. This piques me somewhat – for a club that dines out on the ‘Greatest fans in the world’ so often, it’s a jarring contrast.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Did the fans booing make the team play badly or did the team playing badly make the crowd boo? Whilst the first is a dichotomy, the second is beyond debate – the play dictates the fan reaction. As a support the Celtic fans are not knowing for being miserable. Easily evidenced by the ‘Always look on the bright side side of life’ songs when we were abject. If the fans think the team and management are trying their hardest, the reward is an unhappy Celtic support but one that will move mountains to cheer on the team. On the other hand, when the performances are abject and the fans feel like they’re being taken for mugs? They don’t like it. A generation of Irish Scots that finally realised they weren’t up for being second class citizens, stamped their authority on Scotland. We simply won’t accept being taken for fools. And the Celtic board are taking the fans for fools.

I subscribe utterly to the notion that screaming and booing a player will hamper that players performance. No doubt about it, but what the supporters supposed to do? If they ‘circle the wagons’ it’s patently obvious that be taken as consent for another year of absolute garbage. I choose not to boo players, but I’ll not kid on that it’s hard to be anything other than scunnered. I tend to write snottery letters to let my feelings be known, but that’s just me.

As i see it – the alternative to fans booing and trying to elicit change is fans simply getting fed up and chucking it. Former Celtic fans utterly apathetic to the club. Utterly apathetic to football. Is that worth ‘Circling the wagons’ for? What do we want as fans?

It’s a real shame that CQN is becoming ever more like Follow Follow – Fellow Celtic fans telling others they’re not ‘real’ fans. Guys holier than thou banging on about religion and prayers and being ever so pious whilst denigrating almost every section of our fans – It’s reminiscent of the ‘true blues’ hankering after the Orange Lodge being back in parading around Ibrox.

I think my new hobby on CQN will be to counter every prayer, and every ‘blessed be’ with a disparaging comment about the Nazarene and a reference to the Church Of Satan. I joke, of course (a bit)…

Anyhoos – Delia’s reached the end of his tenure. He should go, and go now. Get someone in that can shake the place up and invigorate it. Bring the feel good factor back. And maybe even win the league. Peter and Co can leave at the end of the season, hopefully accompanied by Dermot and his friendly band of venture capitalist tory scum. Celtic being used as a vehicle to dance on the backs of the bruised doesn’t sit well with this supporter.

    /p

  19. Celtic fans were as bad as team last night . Right from first whistle. Players should be big enough blah blah ok, but no support till a solid crew chanted Celtic Celtic which changed mood but boo boys brought it down again. We are split, but no longer win lose or draw…
