Dinner with the president

629

I didn’t comment on reports earlier this week that the SFA would allow Rangers International to complete an internal investigation into alleged links between Craig Whyte and Charles Green as I thought this was the appropriate course of action.

The SFA acted correctly: they wrote to Rangers International expressing concern over the matters in hand, and received assurances that their questions would be answered by an independent panel.  Last year the football authorities were slow to enforce compliance with predecessor club, Rangers, but we can hope they apply a little more pressure this time.

News, released last night, suggesting after it was established Craig Whyte had been struck off as a director and would therefore face disciplinary proceedings, he had dinner with SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, and president, Campbell Ogilvie, is far more concerning.

Mr Regan assured us that Mr Ogilvie, who he admitted was “heavily conflicted” by matters concerning Rangers, would remove himself from matters concerning the club he was previously a director of.  This is meaningless if both parties met to discuss disciplinary matters with Mr Whyte before formal proceedings were underway.

What is increasingly clear is the co-dependency between so many characters in this play, including Regan and Ogilvie.  They exist to keep each other in a job. This co-dependency will be jeopardised by the one man so many are attempting to paint as the only villain of the piece. Craig Whyte has them all taped and will not go down quietly.

It will be a frustration to many that the bottom half of the Scottish Football League clubs have held out for a bigger share of the trickle-down pie.  Odds on a schism opening up between community and full time clubs have to be high.

Many thanks to everyone who has ordered (below) Willie Wallace’ autobiography, Heart of a Lions.  It goes to print this week and will be with us soon thereafter.

Now we all know who Salmond was referring to don’t we. The ‘so called’ Ulster Scots ( a contradiction in terms itself) with their history and ‘traditions’ (no laughing now) of supremacist marches and ’we are the people mentality’.

Vote for Scottish independence when there is a reasonable chance that by voting Yes Salmond and his like would be given full legislative power! Your are having a laugh.

Another way of looking at Neil Lennon’s record is two league titles out of three, last 16 of the Champions League at the first attempt, and should we win on Sunday – two Scottish Cups out of four.

    I’m enjoying the indy debate.

We’re not going to get a socialist republic, well not right away. But Independance has to be a step forward.

After independance there has to be a general election, the problem is who would oppose the SNP. Since all the other parties are too busy pouring water over the benefits of an idependent Scotland, and are too quick to jump on any negative propaganda so it will be very difficult for any of the major parties to challenge the SNP in a post independance Scotland with any credibility, well for a long time anyway. This on top of the absence of any political talent in these parties, means that they are currently light weight against the SNP in Scotland.

Everything can be changed with a political will, and after independance (should it happen) I’d have to look for the best option available, preferably a party which proposes a republic.

Sometimes in politics there are battles to be won, and achieving the election result you want might mean that certain goals are compromised or watered down to enable a move in the right direction. This is a soft independence, to allow as many people as possible to get on board, but the real vision is likely to go further still in breaking with the old union. Once people get used to independance, the next steps are further diengagement from the institutions which bind us together (we can’t change geography and will continue to share these islands with our neigbours) but this independance for scotland is one of the last steps in the long road to the final end of Empire (currently reading Rise And Fall Of The British Empire – Lawrence James).

Totally accept your sentiments about this being a football forum, however your valid point about SNP fairy stories and propoganda must be expanded and challanged.

SNP hypocrisy is breathtaking. While trying to gain political capital over Thatcher it must never be forgotten that they were complacent and indeed instrumential in imposing her on Scotland. Shamefully in 1979 along with their friends the Tories they colluded to bring down Jim Callaghan’s government with a vote of no confidence.

Principals your having a laugh, they welcomed the consequences.

Moving on, are the SNP friends of Celtic and the Celtic family ?. Their actions have proved not.

Do we trust the SNP over numerous unanswered questions?

Their policy over Catholic schools and abortion.

Their policy over defence and intelligence. ( More pertinent than ever after recent events )

Their policy over currency, interest rates, NHS funding etc, etc, etc.

This is 2013. Do we want to be like Ireland where a new wave of forced emigration is forcing their young to move away from their families. From 2010 to 2014. 240,000 of the most educated and articulate will move from Ireland’s shores.

    What price free education??

Norway. Do we want to be like them. ? The cost of living is astromical and they shop here when they can. Even today people are brewing their own alcohol and suffering the inevitable health consequences.

I could go on about racist undertones, and the fact that for some policy will be made solely on anti English feeling rather than reason.

Let us decide on the facts and what is best for Celtic and the wider Celtic family.

    Rant over.

It’s very hard not to think that last Sunday’s line-up for kick-off at Tannadice will start the cup final, with the exception of Mulgrew for Ambrose.

I was keen to see who would start, especially in midfield. I would be surprised if Forrest came into the team in Paddy’s place. I really hope Paddy gets the nod. Paddy running riot at Hampden in the sun is the stuff of Celtic legends.

So I would have Forrest, Ambrose and Stokes too on the bench. Fewer subs in the cup, so, with the sub goalie, I think that would leave only one more name to pick and I would pick Tony Watt.

    Por Cierto,

Certainly, but again I think there would be a credibility gap. They have to then switch from being completely against Inpedendance to positioning themselves as champions for the the newly independant population.

Then again, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised in the ability of politicians to change their views and opinions with the weather.

I think D.Cameron was clever when he offered the independence referendum- saying put up or shut up, to the SNP.

The problem I have is figuring a way to vote over the next few years which keeps Scotland in the UK,and Britain in Europe.

  21. Celtic manager Neil Lennon will learn his William Scottish Cup final fate today when he appears before a Scottish Football Association Disciplinary hearing.

The Parkhead boss has been charged with breaching a touchline ban and could be barred from the dugout once more as his side look to complete as domestic double in Sunday’s Hampden showdown with Hibernian.

The Northern Irishman will appear at the same meeting as compatriot Kenny Shiels of Kilmarnock, who has also been hit with an SFA notice of complaint.

Lennon has been accused of breaking the terms of his three-match suspension by entering the “playing zone” within 15 minutes of the final whistle of Celtic’s 3-1 Clydesdale Bank Premier League defeat by Motherwell last month.

Shiels, who became involved in a public row with Lennon over the PFA Scotland player of the year shortlist, has been accused of breaking two rules with comments he made in a media interview in the days after the SPL champions’ match at Fir Park.

Kilmarnock have also been hit with a charge relating to Shiels allegedly failing to comply with judicial panel protocol.

Former Celtic skipper Lennon revealed he had been summoned to the Fir Park match officials’ room by referee Euan Norris after the second match of his three-game ban.

Lennon told Sky Sports after the match: “He called me into his room. It was about a number of things but we’ll leave that confidential for now.”

  24. If we vote for independence next year and a few years down the line realise that the grass is not greener can we vote ourselves back into the union or is that it we are independent for ever?

My personal opinion is that a vote for independence is a vote for the creation of a new orange state as more and more loyalists are making Scotland their new home. Added to our very own loyalist underclass we have the perfect storm brewing as we will be firmly in the minority. Catholic schools are first to go trust me. Ireland will be united as they will vote for it as the nationalist population will shortly be in the majority in the north. Que the mass loyalist migration into the arms of a welcoming scotland. Not a pleasant thought for Catholic Scot of Irish descent with a young family like myself and thousands more in bonnie bigot land!
