Dinner with the president

629

I didn’t comment on reports earlier this week that the SFA would allow Rangers International to complete an internal investigation into alleged links between Craig Whyte and Charles Green as I thought this was the appropriate course of action.

The SFA acted correctly: they wrote to Rangers International expressing concern over the matters in hand, and received assurances that their questions would be answered by an independent panel.  Last year the football authorities were slow to enforce compliance with predecessor club, Rangers, but we can hope they apply a little more pressure this time.

News, released last night, suggesting after it was established Craig Whyte had been struck off as a director and would therefore face disciplinary proceedings, he had dinner with SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, and president, Campbell Ogilvie, is far more concerning.

Mr Regan assured us that Mr Ogilvie, who he admitted was “heavily conflicted” by matters concerning Rangers, would remove himself from matters concerning the club he was previously a director of.  This is meaningless if both parties met to discuss disciplinary matters with Mr Whyte before formal proceedings were underway.

What is increasingly clear is the co-dependency between so many characters in this play, including Regan and Ogilvie.  They exist to keep each other in a job. This co-dependency will be jeopardised by the one man so many are attempting to paint as the only villain of the piece. Craig Whyte has them all taped and will not go down quietly.

It will be a frustration to many that the bottom half of the Scottish Football League clubs have held out for a bigger share of the trickle-down pie.  Odds on a schism opening up between community and full time clubs have to be high.

Many thanks to everyone who has ordered (below) Willie Wallace’ autobiography, Heart of a Lions.  It goes to print this week and will be with us soon thereafter.

  1. Good morning from a overcast and chilly Nordrhein Westfalen 7*C at the moment with a predicted high of 10*C. Heading off in the next hour or so for sunnier? climes – Glasgow, where I will meet up with a few CQN’rs, some of whom I have met and others I am looking forward to meeting. It promises to be a calorie filled 4 days.

Also looking forward to the Meaningless Tin Bauble (© awe_naw) Final when I hope to take my youngest Bhoy to his first ever final, tickets not fully confirmed yet.

Before I go I will leave with this thought, with apologies to those who have not had breakfast:

Always have been, are and always will be

Sorry, that’s a poor analogy in my opinion.

It’s the only national association cup competition Celtic are eligible to take part. We might as well win the thing. It’s a showpiece game in the sense that it’s the last game of the competition, at a neutral venue with a big crowd and representatives of most clubs, big and small, the length and breadth of the land in attendance.

    It’s what we have.

  8. I have read some guff in my time but the suggestion that Neil Lennon has made a huge contribution to our falling attendances is up there with the most nonsensical of things I have ever read.

I’m looking at clipless pedals etc , I understand the advantages ie greater control, increased power and I’m a wee bit worried about being attached to the pedals, my commute to work is about 60k round trip so looking for anything to get the best out of the journey.

Perhaps not exactly the same for the UK. If there is a vote to leave the EU, then I think (in theory) Britain could re-apply to join again in the future, but would have to re-negotiate all treaties. I’m also not sure how likely a new application would be received, I don’t think the EU members would look too kindly on states leaving and then rejoining.

    Question for the CQN cyclists.

I’m looking at clipless pedals etc ,

    ____

I wouldn’t be without mine. You will need to get in some practice, but a simple twist of the foot should be enough to dis-engage. I’m mainly cycling off road, and use a beddle which is big enough to work when not clipped in (for downhill sections), but gives the additional control and power at other times. My roadbike also has SPDs and haven’t found any problems using them at all on the road.

Again, if these are your first SPDs then practivce somewhere safe first, so you get used to starting stopping and quickly getting your feet free.

  20. If NL receives a ban for Sunday the club should inform the SFA/SPL that in future disciplinary matter they will release all documents on the Celtic website.

Also in the event we win on Sunday the players shouldn’t collect the cup till NL is allowed on the pitch, whether it’s 15 minutes or an hour. See how BBC, Sky, Wm Hill like that.

  21. Snake Plissken on

Let’s get a couple of things straight here.

The SNP withdrew support for the Callaghan government because of the rigged Devolution referendum AND we find out years later (this week in fact) from Dennis Healy that the UK government suppressed the truth about the value of oil to hurt the independence movement and in the process the Scottish people within this union that we are supposed to be equal partners in.

Strangely the BBC and the usual suspects are not shouting Healy’s comments from the rooftops the way they misrepresented several European ministers’ comments about Scotland and the EU and had to be corrected by said ministers.

He also said Westminster are terrified of losing the oil revenues just as the YES campaign have known all along.

I’ve even heard talk from one guy I know that Healy isn’t reliable – just one of the major figures in British politics of the last half century. It reminded me of the way people ignored Hugh Adam at thon died club but I digress.

The McCrone report of the 1970’s was hidden by Labour and the Tories and put as Top secret for 30 years to deny the people of Scotland this information. This was a report that stated quite clearly that had Scotland gone it alone it would have had a currency “among the hardest in Europe”. In effect Labour lied to the people of Scotland – one of their heartlands so much for them representing the people the purport to.

Now before the predictable responses come let me make one very clear point –

In this Union where child poverty is 1 in 4 whereas in Denmark or Norway it’s 1 in 8 and the life expectancy for some adult males in Glasgow is under 60 don’t you think the Union has failed these people and it will do hee haw for them in the future?

I hear that Independence only offers uncertainty but we could get a number of answers from the UK government right now – surprise surprise they treat us like Mushrooms by keeping us the dark and feeding us proverbial excrement via their PR machine or the MSM.

Bitter together and their cohorts offer us no guarantees either of what is to come nor do they appear to offer even an ounce of hope that the future will be positive. Where are the positive arguments from the unionists? To date all I hear is fear-mongering rubbish with lame predictions which could be summed up in one phrase – We’re all doomed. They might as well just put Private Frazer on a Bill board as their poster boy.

Don’t you think that the constant sneering attitude from English people towards the Scots or people based in Scotland has something to do with the level of ignorance about the true value of that oil?

We have been described as “subsidy junkies” by the right wing of England and our place within the Union is perceived as dependents being kept by English tax payer’s money. Sadly most English people I’ve encountered believe it and remind me about it constantly. It is the popular view.

If you don’t believe me just watch a few Question Times.

    Truly better together.

Lastly, isn’t it the case that your vote is worthless in the union where you’re supposed to be equal partners?

I’m 34 and 3 times in my life I’ve seen Scotland vote for the government and when the Unionists on here get their way and you get a 2015 coalition of Cameron and Farage with an EU referendum 2 years later where you’re taken out of the EU regardless of how you vote I for one will sit back with an ironic smile on my face and say you had the chance to make sure this didn’t happen and you didn’t take it – now lie in the bed you’ve made.

As I say, it’s your choice but don’t any of you dare complain when you get more Camerons, Farages or Thatcher the next generation. This moderating influence of the UK means you’re better together – LMAO.

    There are three types available

The ole toe straps which personally I wouldn’t use.

SPD’s and cleats generally used by road and mountain bike cyclists were you buy and replace your existing pedals with the SPD’s/cleats and attach a peace to your cycling shoes (you may need to buy shoes also if the ones you have are not SPD/cleat ready). Any good cycling shop will be able to advise, fit and sell.

It will take a wee while to get used to using but you basically detach your shoes from pedals with a outward movement of your heel when you require. Generally you can set the tension via turning a coue of alan screws to set how easy or hard this movement is. You would want it quite loose to begin with but not loose enough that your shoe detached in normal cycling motion.

Defo better than normal pedals as you get energy and strength from pulling up on pedals as well as pushing down.

    Go for it.

Remember to tell us about your first fall at traffic lights though. You will do this once. Mine was in rush hour in Shawlands with loads of kids looking on. :-) YOU WILL NEVER FALL AGAIN AFTER FIRST EMBARRASSING FALL.

During the day on Keys and Gray a journo was pointing out the English FA are asking fans not to use the term “no surrender in their upcoming game against the Republic of Ireland. Both Richard Keys and the journo (Paul McCarthy i think) rightly condemned anyone thinking of using this term, that it was from days gone by, the 17th century. Andy Gray hardly said a word. LOL

The political dynamics of Italian football are very complicated . There is no doubt that some Lazio supporters are of the far right but it is equally true that many are not . I very much doubt I will be in amongst fascists —-most of them will be together , having sourced their tickets from the relevant Curva nord Ultras . I will likely be sitting amongst a real cross section of Italian society / left /right / centre . Generalizing about Lazio makes as much sense as generalizing about Celtic . The only Lazio supporter I know has a Jewish background and is a member of one of the 11 currently existing versions of The Communist Party..

  27. Win the cup on Sunday. Raise it aloft for the fans. Pass the cup down the line. Let the manager hold it aloft last and then Neil Lennon should hand it back to the SFA and troop down the stairs to joing his players in a lap of honour.
