Direction of travel encouraging for Scottish football

759

It’s heartening to see Celtic linked with a raft of players over the weekend and encouraging for many but I’d ignore everything you read about a Celtic target this far out from the transfer window opening.  All an agent needs to do is post a DVD to Lennoxtown to be able to legitimately link his player to Celtic.  The club will also scout up to 100 players a season, enough to keep you busy on the stats sites for hours, but even Ronny doesn’t know who he will be signing at this stage of the season.

After 11 wins in 13 league games Aberdeen’s title challenge inevitably slipped.  They’ve won once since February, coming from behind against Motherwell at Pittodrie, as Celtic, Dundee and Partick Thistle have taken points from them.  We are at the stage of the season when injuries, suspensions and fatigue kick in.  Whereas Celtic were able to add quality to their squad in January, Aberdeen have to work on a tighter budget.  That the gap at the top is only seven points, with Celtic having a game in hand, says a lot for the direction of travel at Aberdeen.

If Ronny gets his treble wish, this season’s title will be a lot tighter than the last treble, won at a canter by Martin O’Neill.  It was a weaker league back then, Aberdeen were rubbish.

Talking about direction of travel, have you been watching the ebay auction for Hospitality for four for a day at this year’s Open Golf Championship at St Andrews?  This is a unique prize and has attracted some incredible support.

The auction is in aid of the Celtic Quick News appeal to build a fourth school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.  Shuttle transport for the five minute journey to and from the golf course as needed, with beer, Gin and Whisky tastings throughout the day with the master distiller.

You also have the chance to create a unique CQN single malt whisky cask worth potentially £5000 for future CQN charities, and you will receive a bottle of this very special single malt whisky to commemorate the great day when it is bottled in several years.

Eden Mill is Scotland’s newest and most innovative distillery and brewery incorporated in February 2012!  Located just 2 miles from the famous Old Course itself it provides a perfect base for hospitality for yourself and 3 friends on a day of your choosing at the forthcoming open golf championship on July 16th to 19th.

But this is so much more than just a day’s hospitality at the home of golf.  Before taking to the course to watch, you will enjoy a breakfast roll or two and discuss your perfect single malt whisky with the master distiller.

Whilst you and your friends are enjoying the golf he will seek to surpass your favourite whisky by using the best barley to create the right wash and recommending the right type of barrels for our very own unique CQN 1/4 cask of single malt.  A cask which will mature and provide over £5000 of future funding for our charities in a few years’ time.

You will return to the distillery by shuttle bus for lunch and an optional beer tasting and then for afternoon tea with a tutored gin and whisky tasting with the owner capping off a memorable, unique and very special day for your group and for CQN.

My thanks to Eden Mill for their incredible support.  You can bid on the auction here.

    BT,

Your informant has every right to refuse to pay the expected return to where the ST price was.

I believe that the reduction was due to their absence, as the club expected a reduction in demand, due to the same absence.

If that it is true, the. It is logical to expect them to return to the hun included seasons prices.

We both know that Celtic Park will be packed for their return…..even though some will justify it as being due to supporting the team and not the club, as we have heard it before.

Bottom line is that the majority of our supporters will support their return, with their cash.

You know that from Day1, I have consistantly argued that Celtic had only two options to retain total integrity.

Either do a Derry City and locate to another jurisdiction or,

Do a Belfast Celtic and close down.

Neither is feasible or possible at the moment, so we, all of us, have to make the most of it and in doing so, are actually complicit, if not condoning the scandal.

    BT,

Indeed we are, all of us.

I think that is where all the anger that has crept into CQN over the last few years has come from.

We are angry and frustrated and feel like we are trapped in a bad marriage…..but can’t let go.

    Enjoy your day. Lawnmower awaits.

We won’t have a major increase in ST sales.

Many of the 50,000 ticket holders in MON’s tenure have found different pursuits.

Many of those who stopped going on the demise of the Rangers will return.

But it’ll be balanced by those unable/unwilling to stump up the additional £100.

  4. F.A.B. Virgil (WATRC) on

If Sevco 5088 manage to secure their first promotion there could be an opportunity to underpin something like the Kano Foundation as a result?

Non-season ticket sales of about/at least 20,000. Each non ST sale includes a £5 mandatory donation to Kano foundation (happy to fleece part time old firm fans). That’s £200k for the season. At £50 a ST that’s 4,000 seats paid for every week. If prices rise and the cost is £100 that’s still 2,000 seats. If that’s too ambitious, a mere £1 levy would still result in 800 or 400 seats respectively… for the whole season…

    Just a thought.

It’s a very difficult maze to negotiate. Rangers return to the top tier, their fans and apologists everywhere rejoice in their usual fashion.

We all know the truth, that they should be gone forever as a punishment for their crimes against the game and against various laws of the land.

However, they’re not. They have escaped punishment, bar a wee jolly in towns they had never visited before and certainly aren’t welcome to do so again. Celtic fans rightly take umbrage at this and consider it a stitch-up.

    Now,if we just say-“

f…it,had enough. Game’s a bogey and the ba’s burst,I’m not going back. Not one penny more when that lot are there laughing at us.”

Who will be the winner from all the cheating which took place? A triumphant hun-packed Ibrox,or a virtually-deserted Celtic Park?

I don’t like it any more than you do-and yes,I stay down South, but I still contribute to the family STs-but I’m buggered if im gonna turn my back on Celtic and let that lot win just because we’re disgusted that they cheated and got away wi it!

  10. It is ,as I have always stated ,and been heavily slated for stating so.

There will always be some form of Rangers.

They are the representation of the biggest tribe in Scottish football.

The tribesman are always going to follow what ever reincarnated team that is formed.

To believe otherwise was just wishful thinking.

The crime is that They were not stripped of titles that were won unfairly.

The Celtic support have had a wee laugh at there expense ( in the short term).

We have not received any form of justice.

They can still lay claim to 54 titles etc.

This has never been challenged by Celtic or any other Scottish club.

Indeed the SFA and UEFA are also treating them as the same club.

It is a disgrace that it has come to this stage and Celtic haven’t United with the other Scottish clubs to at least insist that this is a new club ,and that the history of the old club could not be claimed by the new club.

I am so angry with our board ,that they allowed ,and continue to allow this to happen.

There is still time to put a stop to it.

But the representatives of our club lack the desire to state the obvious.

    They are failing us badly.

I genuinely believe that the board considered the crimes over Ibrox way so obvious that all they had to do was allow due process to take place.

In that, they were correct. Due process should have seen them hammered. Hung out to dry. Not even a stone left for them to crawl under in their shame.

After leaving Celtic he was playing for Dumbarton when he was found guilty along with former deid team player Archie Kyle of attempting to bribe Bo’ness player Peter Brown in a public house in Glasgow’s Dundas Street: both men were sentenced to 60 days’ hard labour.

Archie Kyle was the grandfather of Celtic supporter and blues singer Frankie Miller.

  18. Bobby I disagree. Celtic partook in the 5 way agreement. Celtic said nothing after injustice after injustice was thrust upon us. Did wants them back. Loves them in fact. PL made up lies about losses. And they have buried res 12 and left it to supporters to carry the can.

There will be a core support for a team playing out of Ibrox based on traditional cultural identity. That is a fact and I’m happy to accept that. That means in some form that support will be back and active for a team representing that. I can accept that.

However, it is the terms of that return that are at issue.

Years of cheating, liquidating and dumping £50-£140m must have consequences and these should be transparent, clear and accepted by all:

    1. This entity is a new club

    2. It cannot lay claim to any achievements (honest or tainted) of the old, now stopped, club.

    3. It must run it’s business on different and self-sustaining lines, live within its means

    4. It must give and earn respect before seeking to make a wider contribution to Scottish football.

    5. It must accept that it did wrong, apologise and show contrition (real) for that

    6. Scottish football should demand and accept some form of financial reparation over an agreed period to reflect point 5 which requires more than ‘honouring’ football debt.

I think the above is fair and reasonable.

To date I do not believe that Scottish football has achieved or even attempted to achieve any of the above. That is the problem, not a club playing out of Ibrox displaying a form of cultural identity. It is that governance (or lack of it) that will ultimately determine my approach to the future, not the prospect of having to encounter the hun hoarde.

But, supporters have no official or direct relationship with the governing bodies and the governing bodies refuse in the main to have any relationship with supporters.

The Club has a direct relationship with both the SFA and the SPFL. It was up to the Club to lead in those arenas. I believe if the Club had led appropriately then the support would have followed and been able to do more.

It is the governance of the game which has been found wanting, has not acted appropriately and is still unfit for purpose. It can only be the Club that can address this because it is a part of it which supporters are locked out of.
