Direction of travel encouraging for Scottish football

759

It’s heartening to see Celtic linked with a raft of players over the weekend and encouraging for many but I’d ignore everything you read about a Celtic target this far out from the transfer window opening.  All an agent needs to do is post a DVD to Lennoxtown to be able to legitimately link his player to Celtic.  The club will also scout up to 100 players a season, enough to keep you busy on the stats sites for hours, but even Ronny doesn’t know who he will be signing at this stage of the season.

After 11 wins in 13 league games Aberdeen’s title challenge inevitably slipped.  They’ve won once since February, coming from behind against Motherwell at Pittodrie, as Celtic, Dundee and Partick Thistle have taken points from them.  We are at the stage of the season when injuries, suspensions and fatigue kick in.  Whereas Celtic were able to add quality to their squad in January, Aberdeen have to work on a tighter budget.  That the gap at the top is only seven points, with Celtic having a game in hand, says a lot for the direction of travel at Aberdeen.

If Ronny gets his treble wish, this season’s title will be a lot tighter than the last treble, won at a canter by Martin O’Neill.  It was a weaker league back then, Aberdeen were rubbish.

Talking about direction of travel, have you been watching the ebay auction for Hospitality for four for a day at this year’s Open Golf Championship at St Andrews?  This is a unique prize and has attracted some incredible support.

The auction is in aid of the Celtic Quick News appeal to build a fourth school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.  Shuttle transport for the five minute journey to and from the golf course as needed, with beer, Gin and Whisky tastings throughout the day with the master distiller.

You also have the chance to create a unique CQN single malt whisky cask worth potentially £5000 for future CQN charities, and you will receive a bottle of this very special single malt whisky to commemorate the great day when it is bottled in several years.

Eden Mill is Scotland’s newest and most innovative distillery and brewery incorporated in February 2012!  Located just 2 miles from the famous Old Course itself it provides a perfect base for hospitality for yourself and 3 friends on a day of your choosing at the forthcoming open golf championship on July 16th to 19th.

But this is so much more than just a day’s hospitality at the home of golf.  Before taking to the course to watch, you will enjoy a breakfast roll or two and discuss your perfect single malt whisky with the master distiller.

Whilst you and your friends are enjoying the golf he will seek to surpass your favourite whisky by using the best barley to create the right wash and recommending the right type of barrels for our very own unique CQN 1/4 cask of single malt.  A cask which will mature and provide over £5000 of future funding for our charities in a few years’ time.

You will return to the distillery by shuttle bus for lunch and an optional beer tasting and then for afternoon tea with a tutored gin and whisky tasting with the owner capping off a memorable, unique and very special day for your group and for CQN.

My thanks to Eden Mill for their incredible support.  You can bid on the auction here.

I know a little of the paving stones because I have just paid for one for Tony.

It was installed earlier this week between Jock and Jimmy’s statues.

Mrs RWE, our elder son and myself are coming over to have our wee moment there.

We also put a tunnel brick in for him.

(A tunnel brick might be another thought for derbyshirebhoy once we get all the clearances/approvals)

PL’s record* in helping Celtic to increase what other clubs get suggests the obsession is not in filling his pockets but in ensuring have a league to play football in.

  6. I’m usually wrong but given this is a primarily an internet based blog and tnat a number of people have passed away recently.

Would there be any value in setting up an in memoriam page somewhere, to remember our friends online?

I am just conscious with the nature of these things the blog moves on.

Again only a thought, i’m not great with the internet But it might provide an opportunity for those that have passed to be remembered.

The problem with the tunnel brick is that those who buy them rarely get to see them because of their location.

  8. A while back I had a conversation on here with DB. He had stated that he was at school with Stevie Murray; my response was that my late brother had played on the same school team as Stevie.

Owing to the use of nom-de-plumes on here I never got to know who he was or he who my brother was although I don’t doubt he would have known him as he was quite a character and a pretty good player tae.

DB like my bother left the area many years ago, the latter in 1966, and followed our team during the years in the wilderness, although both never lost their love of the hoops. How can you be a Tradamus Lampada FP and not love the Bhoys.

I have a brochure in here on the 100th anniversary of St Patrick’s Church in Dumbarton which is the oldest parish in the Dumbarton, Vale of Leven, Renton, Helensburgh and Cardross area.

On page 44 there are 2 pictures of school teams, St Patrick’s Primary aka McLean Place and St Patrick’s High School aka Castlehill. Peter McCutcheon features in both.

In the latter he is a team mate of our own Stevie Murray, EC winner John (Solly) O’Hare, Brian Divers (younger brother of Celtic legend Johnny RIP) and John Woods also RIP (father of our current goalie coach Stevie).

Although Peter never mentioned any of this he was in rare company.

A fantastic idea about Derbyshirebhoy and others who have passed, maybe a wee letter to the club to get a wee bit of wall for bricks to remember those who have gone.

Been off-line for a couple of days. I would like to pass on my thanks to everyone for their birthday wishes, a sincere thank you to everyone. I’ve been suffering from gout for the past couple of days hence the absence. Happy Birthday to mini BT and anybody else with birthdays today.

RIP Derbyshire Bhoy and Turnbull Hutton, God bless both of them. I’ve not had a chance to read too far back as my internet connection is wherever I can access it.

    Looking forward to tomorrow night.

The article I posted could be filed under “as others see us”, (hence the Rabbie Burns quote that preceded it). There was no political slant or agenda to its posting nor did I endorse or ridicule it; not that I implying that you were implying.. It was not a collection of my thoughts and if it had been I would have said “as I see us”.

I am well aware that we are all being manipulated, from many quarters, and no doubt the tobacco industry has cases, many cases, to answer.

The post that followed the one that you refer too illustrates that perfectly, though it would appear nobody was particularly interested in the content. It was all about how we are constantly being lied to, deceived, negatively educated, and kneaded to shape.

That second post was not about “if we could see ourselves as other see us” (unendorsed or otherwise) as opposed, how others strive to corral our thought process and determine the path of our will, for the political/financial benefit of them rather than the good of social welfare.

There was a reason I followed up with that post… but overnight I’ve forgotten it.

Here’s the link, what goes on with this mob goes on in Scotland. I’m sure you’ll make the association to the ‘Nanny State’ post. Nobody needs to be hugely intelligent to see through it, but it helps clear the vision when you recognise the subtle intents; which I know we all do to some extent or other.

Still, it doesn’t hurt to be reminded. And there is an obvious connection to Celtic and her Supporters.
