Direction of travel encouraging for Scottish football

759

It’s heartening to see Celtic linked with a raft of players over the weekend and encouraging for many but I’d ignore everything you read about a Celtic target this far out from the transfer window opening.  All an agent needs to do is post a DVD to Lennoxtown to be able to legitimately link his player to Celtic.  The club will also scout up to 100 players a season, enough to keep you busy on the stats sites for hours, but even Ronny doesn’t know who he will be signing at this stage of the season.

After 11 wins in 13 league games Aberdeen’s title challenge inevitably slipped.  They’ve won once since February, coming from behind against Motherwell at Pittodrie, as Celtic, Dundee and Partick Thistle have taken points from them.  We are at the stage of the season when injuries, suspensions and fatigue kick in.  Whereas Celtic were able to add quality to their squad in January, Aberdeen have to work on a tighter budget.  That the gap at the top is only seven points, with Celtic having a game in hand, says a lot for the direction of travel at Aberdeen.

If Ronny gets his treble wish, this season’s title will be a lot tighter than the last treble, won at a canter by Martin O’Neill.  It was a weaker league back then, Aberdeen were rubbish.

Talking about direction of travel, have you been watching the ebay auction for Hospitality for four for a day at this year’s Open Golf Championship at St Andrews?  This is a unique prize and has attracted some incredible support.

The auction is in aid of the Celtic Quick News appeal to build a fourth school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.  Shuttle transport for the five minute journey to and from the golf course as needed, with beer, Gin and Whisky tastings throughout the day with the master distiller.

You also have the chance to create a unique CQN single malt whisky cask worth potentially £5000 for future CQN charities, and you will receive a bottle of this very special single malt whisky to commemorate the great day when it is bottled in several years.

Eden Mill is Scotland’s newest and most innovative distillery and brewery incorporated in February 2012!  Located just 2 miles from the famous Old Course itself it provides a perfect base for hospitality for yourself and 3 friends on a day of your choosing at the forthcoming open golf championship on July 16th to 19th.

But this is so much more than just a day’s hospitality at the home of golf.  Before taking to the course to watch, you will enjoy a breakfast roll or two and discuss your perfect single malt whisky with the master distiller.

Whilst you and your friends are enjoying the golf he will seek to surpass your favourite whisky by using the best barley to create the right wash and recommending the right type of barrels for our very own unique CQN 1/4 cask of single malt.  A cask which will mature and provide over £5000 of future funding for our charities in a few years’ time.

You will return to the distillery by shuttle bus for lunch and an optional beer tasting and then for afternoon tea with a tutored gin and whisky tasting with the owner capping off a memorable, unique and very special day for your group and for CQN.

My thanks to Eden Mill for their incredible support.  You can bid on the auction here.

I’m happy to organise something but would appreciate some feedback on the text

Could be a simple ” in honour of all CQNrs who have passed away to paradise ”

Or naming the individuals of which there are sadly a good few now

Delaney’s, thankfully you all got out in one piece. No surprise the Dortmund fans helped out. In one of the bars the night before the game, once we convinced the bar regulars we weren’t squaddies, they were very relaxed with us.

The locals told us the squaddies from the nearby British base were really disliked.

There was footage on youtube of the stickies in Stuttgart a few years ago. A crowd of them have got plastic soldier helmets, toy guns and cheap model planes giving it all thye who won the war, battle of Britain, Dumbusters etc mince. They looked even bigger fools than ever.

  4. Hello,

I’m looking for a tip from Edinburgh based folk. A few months ago, people on here were talking about a child friendly bar/diner/restaurant/posh chippy tea room. I think it was off to the left of Leith Walk as you walk down from Princes Street and I vaguely remember that the tables might have been chalkboard?

I thought I had bookmarked it however i can’t find it and Ive just spent the last 30 mins trying to find it via search engines without success.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

Not a good result for Cliftonville today against Glanavon unfortunately.

It’s a tough call…we are in privileged position, in having the option of Forrest and/or GMS.

GMS hasn’t put a foot wrong since he’s arrived.

Forrest has his critics, but I sense Ronny is Managing him the right way.

I reckon he’s just about finding his range.

    Good dilema to have.

I hope that RD does not drop SJ deeper tomorrow to fill the SB role. I think that blunts most of SJ’s effectiveness, and severely weakens our movement/pressing up front. This would have been a chance for LH to play, but, in his absence, I would go with EA or Wakaso in the middle. (with GMS, SA and SJ behind LG)

    Ok bhoys and ghirls

I will go in this week and look at a decent sized paving stone on the Celtic way .. Words to honour all cqnrs passed away to paradise .

I will sort out the funds and then we can figure out how to reimburse me with any extra going to help sevco …

Ok maybe that’s taking it too far but extras going to the Malawi school kitchens charity ;)

  19. ruggygman/Embramike

I hope that Ronny puts Armstrong in as a direct replacement for Broonie tomorrow night. Johansen has a phenomenal engine but his passing isn’t the greatest when taking the ball off the two centre halfs and trying to create from the back. In addition we’d miss his attacking instincts if he played alongside Bitton.

  22. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

    Auldheid,

PL needs tp remove hisplc obsession with making money and apply the rules snd be seen to be doing so. That will give the game a shot in the arm when those that have left it due to corruption and self interest return to the game.

The SFA are about to preside over the third or is it fourth bare faced rip off of poor daft peeple. PL is now part of that setup. Historically to rubber stamp this up and coming ST sale and probable IPO for the huns and it goes tits up would imho be a bad mistake unless success is guaranteed. I think he has to resign but with his new position within the ECA he might already be easy to deal with.

Making ever more money seems more important than the quality and integrity of the product and that is a mis calculation as is the misnomer of equating more money with improving standards.
