Direction of travel encouraging for Scottish football

759

It’s heartening to see Celtic linked with a raft of players over the weekend and encouraging for many but I’d ignore everything you read about a Celtic target this far out from the transfer window opening.  All an agent needs to do is post a DVD to Lennoxtown to be able to legitimately link his player to Celtic.  The club will also scout up to 100 players a season, enough to keep you busy on the stats sites for hours, but even Ronny doesn’t know who he will be signing at this stage of the season.

After 11 wins in 13 league games Aberdeen’s title challenge inevitably slipped.  They’ve won once since February, coming from behind against Motherwell at Pittodrie, as Celtic, Dundee and Partick Thistle have taken points from them.  We are at the stage of the season when injuries, suspensions and fatigue kick in.  Whereas Celtic were able to add quality to their squad in January, Aberdeen have to work on a tighter budget.  That the gap at the top is only seven points, with Celtic having a game in hand, says a lot for the direction of travel at Aberdeen.

If Ronny gets his treble wish, this season’s title will be a lot tighter than the last treble, won at a canter by Martin O’Neill.  It was a weaker league back then, Aberdeen were rubbish.

Talking about direction of travel, have you been watching the ebay auction for Hospitality for four for a day at this year’s Open Golf Championship at St Andrews?  This is a unique prize and has attracted some incredible support.

The auction is in aid of the Celtic Quick News appeal to build a fourth school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.  Shuttle transport for the five minute journey to and from the golf course as needed, with beer, Gin and Whisky tastings throughout the day with the master distiller.

You also have the chance to create a unique CQN single malt whisky cask worth potentially £5000 for future CQN charities, and you will receive a bottle of this very special single malt whisky to commemorate the great day when it is bottled in several years.

Eden Mill is Scotland’s newest and most innovative distillery and brewery incorporated in February 2012!  Located just 2 miles from the famous Old Course itself it provides a perfect base for hospitality for yourself and 3 friends on a day of your choosing at the forthcoming open golf championship on July 16th to 19th.

But this is so much more than just a day’s hospitality at the home of golf.  Before taking to the course to watch, you will enjoy a breakfast roll or two and discuss your perfect single malt whisky with the master distiller.

Whilst you and your friends are enjoying the golf he will seek to surpass your favourite whisky by using the best barley to create the right wash and recommending the right type of barrels for our very own unique CQN 1/4 cask of single malt.  A cask which will mature and provide over £5000 of future funding for our charities in a few years’ time.

You will return to the distillery by shuttle bus for lunch and an optional beer tasting and then for afternoon tea with a tutored gin and whisky tasting with the owner capping off a memorable, unique and very special day for your group and for CQN.

My thanks to Eden Mill for their incredible support.  You can bid on the auction here.

It was a great trip mate and I would definitely go back .

My only other experience of Germany was when we played Stuttgart on the way to Seville and that was another great trip .

Tomorrow’s game will be a test to see how we do without Broonie.

Hopefully, we don’t miss him as much as we did at the start of the season.

After the St Johnstone result a few weeks ago, we should approach the game in the right frame of mind and play Nir from the start. We are a better team when he plays. .

One my best holidays was in Santa Ponsa went there with two other couples and the kids a number of years back, it was made all the more enjoyable by one of them being a ragin Hun, he hated going up that main St me and the other mate would suss out where the best rebel music would be and the women just went with the flow, fond memories

  8. Flicking over to BT sport, what’s the odds on Scott McDonald scoring to stop Sevco being promoted.

Think I’d prefer Motherwell without the mullet playing the Huns.

Is it a one off game?

Completely agree, I’ve never subscribed to the idea of resting players but putting them on the bench. If the guy’s fit enough for the bench he’s fit enough to start and in the case of Bitton we certainly need him to start.

  12. Talk of who will face the huns is way premature…IF they face a team from theSPFL…it could be Ross C..Motherwell or Thistle…

  13. ive said this before on here.

i sat a few seats away from the denim jaicked murphy at the leage cup final that set the record for bigoted songs from the monkey horde. i really thought, this high level celtic supporter, here is a guy who will stand up and call them out for this.

mcaskill came out a said a wonderful spectacle.

murphy had the chance to nail it all, then and there.

he could have went after a political opponent, who had called it so glaringly wrong , and make a statement about the scourge of the city.

    said nowt.

from then on i have doubted his credentials.

    there you go.

Martybhoy, its a Ryan McGowan situation for McDonald, born in Australia to Celtic supporting families originally from here.

I may be wrong, Scott McDonald will do what’s best for him and if the defunct club wanted him, I’m certain he would have went there. I know a relative of a Motherwell director and he told me McDonald would have gone to Ibrox despite his family background.

However, i’m glad he did play for us if only for his two goals in the 3 2 game plus his goals against Milan and Man U.

    Didn’t realise that .

As Dallas Dallas said earlier its an opportunity to show we can play without dropping standards set recently.

Broonie is a big influence but the mark of a great side is they can perform without one or two of their best individuals.

I think we are at that stage

Two Sky type morons commentating. Tyler and an ex pro.

They miss the point about QPRs 2nd goal. The slipstream run by the scorer and the limp defending – and instead concentrate on the lack of a man on the post.

Then they excuse Austin’s truly red card studs up challenge.

Apparently, you just have to be an ex pro or just sound confident and you’ll get a job in the gantry.

The Tay, ye as along with about another twenty gangs that ran riot….it really has dispelled now, reckon most of the kids nowadays take their anger out on their play stations/ X-boxes.

The sad thing is…I hardly ever see kids out playing football anymore, something has to be done, as so much talent is going to waste.

Honestly, how would we feel if DCKing was given the OK to become a member of our board along side P Murray and other assorted underachievers?

There are a lot of bluenoses out there who are smarter than the average bear, who are less than delighted at the prospect.

67th heaven, my dental health is better than it was due to my Castlemilk dentist. He’s a good guy and dentist. I actually quite like going to the dentist now. (smiley thing)

WITS, you have to book an appointment with my dentist 2 to 3 weeks in advance lol.

  26. Fourgreenfeils, I was also in Stuttgart, one of the best euro trips I’ve been to, walking out the stadium and someone with a radio saying that the Liverpool fans were singingbring on the CCeltic will stay with me forever after what John Harston did to them, great days and too long ago, another European adventure like that would be just brilliant.

But 100% if you heading back to Germany, put Cologne on your itinerary and let me know.
