Direction of travel encouraging for Scottish football

759

It’s heartening to see Celtic linked with a raft of players over the weekend and encouraging for many but I’d ignore everything you read about a Celtic target this far out from the transfer window opening.  All an agent needs to do is post a DVD to Lennoxtown to be able to legitimately link his player to Celtic.  The club will also scout up to 100 players a season, enough to keep you busy on the stats sites for hours, but even Ronny doesn’t know who he will be signing at this stage of the season.

After 11 wins in 13 league games Aberdeen’s title challenge inevitably slipped.  They’ve won once since February, coming from behind against Motherwell at Pittodrie, as Celtic, Dundee and Partick Thistle have taken points from them.  We are at the stage of the season when injuries, suspensions and fatigue kick in.  Whereas Celtic were able to add quality to their squad in January, Aberdeen have to work on a tighter budget.  That the gap at the top is only seven points, with Celtic having a game in hand, says a lot for the direction of travel at Aberdeen.

If Ronny gets his treble wish, this season’s title will be a lot tighter than the last treble, won at a canter by Martin O’Neill.  It was a weaker league back then, Aberdeen were rubbish.

Talking about direction of travel, have you been watching the ebay auction for Hospitality for four for a day at this year’s Open Golf Championship at St Andrews?  This is a unique prize and has attracted some incredible support.

The auction is in aid of the Celtic Quick News appeal to build a fourth school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.  Shuttle transport for the five minute journey to and from the golf course as needed, with beer, Gin and Whisky tastings throughout the day with the master distiller.

You also have the chance to create a unique CQN single malt whisky cask worth potentially £5000 for future CQN charities, and you will receive a bottle of this very special single malt whisky to commemorate the great day when it is bottled in several years.

Eden Mill is Scotland’s newest and most innovative distillery and brewery incorporated in February 2012!  Located just 2 miles from the famous Old Course itself it provides a perfect base for hospitality for yourself and 3 friends on a day of your choosing at the forthcoming open golf championship on July 16th to 19th.

But this is so much more than just a day’s hospitality at the home of golf.  Before taking to the course to watch, you will enjoy a breakfast roll or two and discuss your perfect single malt whisky with the master distiller.

Whilst you and your friends are enjoying the golf he will seek to surpass your favourite whisky by using the best barley to create the right wash and recommending the right type of barrels for our very own unique CQN 1/4 cask of single malt.  A cask which will mature and provide over £5000 of future funding for our charities in a few years’ time.

You will return to the distillery by shuttle bus for lunch and an optional beer tasting and then for afternoon tea with a tutored gin and whisky tasting with the owner capping off a memorable, unique and very special day for your group and for CQN.

My thanks to Eden Mill for their incredible support.  You can bid on the auction here.

Glad you and the bhoy enjoyed Dortmund. I was there for our two games in late 80s then early nineties. The locals were very friendly. The British Army squaddies less so. Had to fight for our lives in ’87. Two of my mates were amateur boxers thankfully. :)

My dentist is in Cambuslang and he’s a mad tim. I was there Saturday morning and he’s asking my views on Friday’s game.He got so carried away talking about it he forgot I couldn’t reply to his questions due to the fact I had a drill in my mouth.Every time I visit the receptionists have to come in and remind him there are others in the waiting room.

Hamiltontim and Burghbhoy, the lions showed they could cope without Joe McBride but Inter couldn’t deal with their main man, Suarez?, missing.

Hopefully stefan isn’t pulled back to the Broony role with maybe Stuart Armstrong doing the Broonie role and have Gary Mackay-Steven in for James Forrest. Leigh Griffiths in for Stokesy.

Wakaso played a more central role in midfield, he played well, for Ghana in the African Cup of Nations but I’m not sure if Ronny will play him tomorrow night.

Theglasgowcelticway, I’m sure you won’t need any encouragement to go to the dentist. Sounds like a great guy. However, I’m sure his patients in the sitting room might not be too happy lol.

  5. Sispini, hope you are well, don’t think I will make it back over this season, just arrived in Turin on a four month stint, but if I do make it over for another game this season, I will let you know.

If I were PL I would be trying to assess who between MA and DK was the biggest threat to Celtic.

If I were PL I would be wanting the best of both worlds In fact if it were me I’d be wanting that too.

So what is the best of both worlds?

TRFC with gates around 10k less than us in the same division. Strong enough to offer some competition, keep our ST sales healthy but not enough for them to win titles.

That way Celtic always out wage TRFC and pay more for players who might otherwise sign for TRFC making them always the bridesmaid never the Bride.

But what if they come back with a dowry? Who can afford the higher dowry MA or DK?

MA looks like he is the money man so the choice would be DK.

But PL knows as we all do that DK is a cheating bassa who saw RFC use ebts to out wage Celtic for 10 years under the unwatchful eye of the SFA.

So before dropping objections PL does not stand in DKs way but demands more rigorous policing of the rules and introduction of domestic FFP. (It is on its way)

He also demands review of refereeing to give SPFL greater say in performance monitoring .

He also demands DK drops the pretence RFC were the victims of a witchhunt and coughs for titles won using ebts admitting what we all believe that is ebts were kept secret precisely not to risk losing the sporting advantage they were used for in the first place.

To do that PL needs leverage and the rest of the SPFL clubs behind him. It would be very much in their interest to want the same.

An enquiry into RFC failures to supply SFA or SPFL with key documentation in when required would also be amongst the conditions.

    Good job I’m not PL.

Delaney’s, the first time we played in Dortmund, we were sitting below a gantry in the stand, where the army pipe band were watching the game.

When Dortmund scored their second goals, some of them shouted at us and were laughing, telling us to ‘enjoy’ the journey home.

I couldn’t go to Stuttgart as I was on jury duty but all my pals who went still rave about it. One still keeps in touch with a Stuttgart fan.

My pal and I are going to over to Malaga on second may and they are playing Elche that weekend. Could I pick your brain when you came back regarding where to get tickets if you make the game later this month ? Have tried online but struggling to make any headway. Seemingly their stadium capacity is 30k but they have 26k season books

    itscalledthemalvinas

I’m heading there on the 29th April. I’d been told they were at home on the 29th (they’re not) but it turns out the Elche game on the 3 May is the only one I’d be able to go to!

Didn’t realise there could be problems getting tickets for this fixture. I’ll post and let you know how I get on as I’ll be there 4 days before the game. My brother in law is friendly with a Argentinian bar owner who is a season ticket holder.

Corky made a suggestion earlier about us getting some way to honour Derbyshire bhoy and I asked if anyone was interested in getting a brick or paving stone on the Celtic wAy . Possibly in honour of the bhoys of CQN who have passed away over the last few years

I have not noticed any response .. Should I take that as a no or would anyone like to contribute to this or any other suggestion

The Dortmund fans after the game, helped us when we were attacked by the English squaddies. That and two of Temple’s top boxers, saved us that night. :)

With Broony suspended for El Glassigow tomorrow, I agree with your team, with maybe the possibility of GMS getting a start.

We have a tough match up at ICT early Saturday before Killie at home then ICT in the semifinal – our last possible stumbling block for the treble IMHO. At least we have plenty of options for Ronny to freshen up if needed.

Looking forward to tomorrow night as Jags will be up for it with ‘Well winning 5-0 tonight v Buddies and Staggies getting another 3 points v St J.
