Do as I say, not as I do. Paisley style

If the statement by Inverness chairman Kenny Cameron was utterly bizarre, St Mirren’s Stewart Gilmour explains so much about Scottish football.  10 days after Gilmour voted to refuse Sevco a parachute into the top flight of the game, he accused Scottish Football League clubs of doing damage to Scottish football by standing shoulder-to-shoulder with him in refusing to promote Sevco into an unearned higher league.

He told the Paisley Daily Express: “To be fair to Stewart Regan, the document he released last week was a good document.

“It set out changes to Scottish football that would bring in a fairer structure, fairer distribution system, fairer everything.

“Unfortunately, the people in the SFL have not bought into that. I just hope they realise the damage they have done to Scottish football.”

“The damage they have done to Scottish football”!

This guy is hilarious!  ‘Do as I say, not as I do’ has never been more animated.

Rangers still remain a member of the SPL. What has to be decided is which other team, established (like Dundee or Dunfermline) or brand new (sevco) will replace them.

How can rangers be removed and replaced with rangers. It defies logic.

Some good news about Stan.Sorry if already posted

    Aston Villa skipper Stiliyan Petrov

FOOTBALL star Stiliyan Petrov is winning his fight against cancer,

The 33-year-old former Celtic midfielder, now playing for Aston Villa, is in remission from leukaemia.

His breakthrough was revealed by Tony Blair’s former spin chief Alastair Campbell, who is chairman of a charity raising cash for leukaemia research.

The football world was stunned when it emerged in March that Petrov – nicknamed Stan by fans and team-mates – had been diagnosed with the blood cancer.

    Petrov has since undergone chemotherapy.

The Bulgarian joined Celtic in 1999 and became one of the most popular players in the club’s recent history. He moved to Aston Villa in 2006.

Two weeks ago, he marked his 33rd birthday by visiting Villa team-mates for the first day of pre-season training under new manager Paul Lambert, who Petrov starred alongside at Parkhead.

Professor Chris Bunce, research director at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said: “His remission is a fantastic first step towards what we all hope will be a full recovery.

“He is clearly aware that this is a necessary step along the road but that there is still danger the disease has not fully gone away.

“Although most patients achieve a remission, some regrettably go on to relapse with recurrent disease.

“Stiliyan seems to be aware of this in the way he speaks about where he is now. He will be monitored very closely for evidence of resurgence of the disease and should it come back, there will most likely be further treatment options available.”

Dad-of-two Petrov is backing a £250,000 campaign to raise funds for A Pedal for Petrov cycle from Celtic Park to Villa Park in Birmingham in September to raise cash for leukaemia and lymphoma research.

Villa masseurs Andrew Smith and Alex Butler will cycle the 400 miles. Former spin doctor Campbell will also take part.

He said: “Stan is an amazing guy. He is in remission now. People who go through this want to help others, and he is absolutely that type of character.”

Lambert has kept the Bulgarian on as club captain regardless of whether he features on the pitch.

At his appearance at Villa Park two weeks ago, Petrov said he will keep fighting and believes the worst of the illness is behind him.

He said: “I’ve been a strong character since the start of my career.

“I always believed that you need to be patient and you need to believe in things, and I believe I will get better.

“I know I’ve got a few more months of chemotherapy and I need to go through it. But I think that the hardest bit is over and from now on I just need to wait for the

  11. Rangers FC PLC (in administration) remains a member of the SPL – until the organisation notices that it is not actually a football team any more and is therefore ineligible for membership.

But if the SPL follows its own rules – and I know that is a big if – it has a major problem.

The old article 14 now applies. This is the one that always existed and we debated in depth before they changed the rules to try to get the transfer from Rangers to Sevco approved. It states that a General Meeting shall be called to decide who to pass the share to. And General Meetings require 21 days notice – unless all members agree to a shorter period.

So Rangers – as a current member – could object to the calling of a speedy AGM. And the result would be no Club 12 in the SPL.

Could the league run with 11 clubs this season? And what would happen next summer with reconstruction on the cards and a spare top league place up for grabs?

Rule 14 remains the same. The changes they made to the Articles were the ones to give clubs the vote on transferring a share.

  20. Truly bizarre statement from st mirren. If “five clubs in the SPL could be in administration within weeks”, how would rangers in div 1 have changed this?

In the next few weeks these clubs wold have no additional revenue from the rangers situation, they’re stuck on their revenue path regardless of the outcome of Friday’s vote. So, if they’re heading for admin then none of Friday’s possible outcomes would have altered that.

James Forrest – absorbing stuff in the wee hours, James. Good to see you back on form. If you could just clarify your source for some of those predictions of hun doom we could start a party right now.

Kevjungle – need to lay off the all-night buckie-fests, mate. No team that goes on an unbeaten run like Lenny’s Lions last winter can ever be classified as poor. The consistency was admirable, the mental strength displayed by so many young players when the chips were truly down and the knives of ‘fans’ like you and the gibbering media vermin were at their throats and out for blood, was astonishing, and in itself a tribute to one man’s character – Neil Lennon.

Perhaps you’d be more happy following Sevco around the heelan villages?

  24. ¿¿⊥Ǝʎ ƃN∩⊥S ןƎƎℲ ∩Oʎ Op ¡ƃNI⊥S ∀ SI SIH⊥ 'ᖈƎqWƎWƎᖈ - ROW Z on

I think James Forrest from last night was a tad optimistic (even though I’d like to agree).

There are two financial imperatives that sevco want/need at this time.

    1. A league to play in so that sevco can sell season tickets and get ra bers dough.

    2. Using ra bers ST dough for long enough to make a share issue in sevco (or any new name they concoct) to get………… well more of ra bers dough.

If ra bers bite on both of these it allows C Green enough dough to stay alive and keep going.

Fergus gave you the model re share issue and ra tims bit big time. This is what enabled Fergus to continue. (set aside the fact that Fergus was a genius and knew what he was doing).

What will determine whether sevco can complete 12/13 is entirely down to ra bers and their dough.

So, keep it up Sally, Bomber, The Flyin Pig et al. Yous are playing a stormer at killing sevco dead.

Green knows absolutely what he needs and he is fixated on getting it. Don’t underestimate the NEED Green has that is spurring him on.

I see seas of Green, Red Roses too………………

  29. Interesting article in the Scotmans on counting the cost of losing rangers. It puts the loss of sponsorship and tv revenue at £16 per year for the SPL, if any contracts are cancelled (though there’s been no indication from the sponsors). However, the cost to the public purse of policing, hospitals and prosecutions resulting from SPL “old firm” games is estimated at 40m per season (why trust one hastily prepared stat and not the other).

    On Sky

Suggestions now that Sky want to ‘discuss’ contracts.

Fine I say……………. but………………… the SPL Board should now delegate this task to someone other than Dykeman Dungcaster. He can take the minutes if he wants.

I would suggest that delegating this task to Mr Lawell is most likely to lead to a positive outcome for all. I suspect he could then draw on the expertise of Mr Livingstone to ably assist him in matters of technical value.

On a wider note………… if at any point in the ‘negotiation’ Sky need reminded of their Achilles Heal then that would be the time for the SPL, the clubs and the chairmen to consider the ‘FANS CANCEL SKY’ campaign. A co-ordinated and backed campaign would I think refresh the minds of Sky execs as to the vulnerability of a subscription service to customer demand.

    £18m / £100 a month x 12 months = 15,000 cancellations

    30,000 cancellations = £18m loss
