Don’t bet, tardy payers and immersed in our culture

1179

Quick question for you.  Which Scottish team has won their last four home games, scoring 13 goals in the process?  St Mirren are on a run of form at home.  One of those wins was against Second Division opposition, but remember, this season, Second Division teams are on a par with AC Milan in the early 90s.

Ross County scored four at St Mirren Park but St Mirren scored five, while Hearts were despatched 2-0.  This is a team with good home form who kept their squad in place over the international break.  My best advice to you is to avoid betting on this one.

Many clubs have trouble paying their bills but the problem with Hearts and their regular tardiness when it comes to wages, evident again this month, appears to be different.  Hearts cash balances will have peaked weeks, possibly months, ago.  From now on they will be eating into ‘reserves’, or more likely, accruing additional debt at their owner’s bank.  The club have been here many times before and Vlad has dipped into the equivalent of his commercial pocket to avoid an insolvency event but I’ve always found it curious why he didn’t do so on time.  It’s not as though anyone can be surprised pay day is coming.

As such, there appears to be a degree of control over late payment.  The money is always provided but not before pain is passed down from owner to earners, which is a bit curious.

For all his faults, and they are many, Romanov and other shareholders in Ukio Bankas have ‘invested’ countless millions in Hearts, money they are unlikely to get back with the residential property market so depressed.  They have also not exposed the club to outrageous fortune – the overwhelming majority of debt is owed to the bank itself, balances at HMRC and other creditors are low, and they pay their football debts.  This means that if Hearts go into administration, the route back through a CVA would be clear.  The only serious losers would be staff made redundant, while Ukio would face a write-off, perhaps already acknowledged internally.

I was surprised at the news Danny McGrain was appointed first team coach yesterday but also delighted.  Danny’s was not a name mentioned for the position when Alan Thompson left the club but he is immersed in the fabric and culture of our club.  ‘In the days of changing ways’ a strong thread of continuity is an invaluable asset in ensuring the new generations acquire the important elements of our identity.

We are a club in touch with all that is important.

  1. Cafu,Lamh, Alves.

In my view, the three finest fullbacks in the last twenty years.

Each one in the mould of Danny Mc.Grain.

Danny was the original, an advancement of the genre created by Dunky Mc.Kay.

I don’t think any mature Celtic fan would disagree.

    Danny = Timeless.

Think you got me mixed up with someone else :-0)

I thought that we wore Red socks in 1970, until I checked it out and most internet leads says orange, as this was part of Leeds third kit, which were lent to us as a wind up but we took them to prove a point.

Leftclicktic posted one link to the kit earlier.

Would love to find a video to either approve or disprove this. Going to speak to my Dad as well, once he is back from hols to see what he recalls.

If Gordon is lurking, I am sure he would be able to confirm.

It must be something in the air, I find myself dissagreeing with you for a second time in a week.

    Cafu,Lamh, Alves.

If Cafu and Alves were not from St. America, they would not IMO get near a top class team.

Lahm, decent enough for a German midget :>)))

  6. I usually post absolute crap on here but give me a wee second. On the day of their actual liquidation and death would it not be good to light up the skies with lanterns and fireworks just to let them know that we know? Let everyone know that they are dead and let the skies light up on this celebration of human progression.

Tinto Firs was a complete hun shop, as was the Trade Winds in Thornliebank..

    Bad crack.

I may count as more elderly than mature but I remember when the football magazines listed their World XI selection that Danny was always in competition with 2 German WC winners, Breitner and Vogts.

Bertie was a world class tackler but was more dogged than skilled. Breitner was a superb footballer who could have played midfield as well as full back ( like Davie Hay) but the only area where he was palpably better than Danny was in finishing especially pens.

Danny got rated despite his failure to achieve success with his country in the way that Vogts and Breitner did. But, just as we do not reduce George Best’s assessment we should not diminish Danny for this.

It is a smart move to have Danny’s dugout debut tomorrow. We are playing a Saints team that is good at going forward. McLean, McGowan and Goodwin are a strong midfield. Thompson is an aerial threat and young Carey has a dangerous supply of crosses and free kicks. Nonetheless, they are weak at the back and we should be making them think about us.

We need a good positive win to set us up for Barca.

  12. Danny Mac was the best right back in the world

and as a left back was comparable to the

    great Paul Breitner. Not bad.

When discussing full backs should give the tremendous

    Tommy Gemmell a mention.

  13. SFTB

    Re Saints ..correct

They are very weak at the back

4-3-3 tomorrow ..on form Hooper, Sammy and AN other ( perhaps McGeoch) …if we’re attacking they can’t score

“Tinto Firs was a complete hun shop,”

I only worked there one summer as a student. I remember the Charge Hand was a Hun but I don’t remember too much fitba based problems and naebdy bothered Shuggie when he drank there on his own. I never drank there or revisited after I finished my work. I knew how much slops was served there. Every Sunday evening before we opened the doors to the queue outside, we’d have about 40 pints one third full of the afternoon’s beer leavings to top up with fresh beer.

I bet we were not the only pub scamming in such a fashion then.

Cannae really explain why, but this line by the Exiled Tim has had me in knots. The funniest line I have read on here in months.

” Lahm, decent enough for a German midget”.

  17. tommytwiststommyturns on

SFTB – Paul Breitner was indeed a superb footballer and a proper midfield general.

I will always remember the look of absolute disbelief on his face when Villa beat a very strong Bayern team including Rumenigge in the European Cup final.

He was immense for W Germany.

I told a Saints fan in my work that they would take something from the game tomorrow! We have a lot of players returning from Internationals, some with injuries and others having long journeys. None of them will want to miss out on playing at the Camp Nou.

On the other hand, we have some fringe players who want to establish themselves and everyone is playing for their place on Tuesday! If we were playing ICT or equivalent, then we would definately drop points, but the main thing in our favour is that Danny Lennon likes his boys to play football….and that’s a mistake against us.

  18. I would imagine we will field a second ish team tomorrow.

Lenny has said that there will be no Brown, Forrest, Sammi, Miku.

Izzy is just back, Mathews might still be unfit.

I won’t try to pre-empt Lenny, but I think Lassad will get a run out.

The game on tuesday is much more important than the game the morra, so I fully expect Lenny to field the strongest team possible :>)

  19. I don’t believe Danny Alves is a right back.

I’ve never seen him in the first third of Barca territory. They just leave Puyol and occasionally, Pique to help him out, in defence.

Barca play a 2:5:3 set up
