Don’t book travel to Edinburgh, lobby for league merger

807

If you are missing your competitive football fix you’ll have devoured the fixture list this morning but it’s still over seven weeks until the first league game of the season, when the league flag will fly before we face Ross County (we will have played a Champions League qualifier five weeks from today).

Thereafter, due to the postponement of a home game to allow for a financially lucrative friendly, Celtic are on the road six times in nine league fixtures, so if our away form is anything like it was for much of last season, it’s likely we will be in the mix, instead of clear leaders, come the end of October.

After an absence of some time, Celtic have a local derby to look forward to.  They meet Partick Thistle at Firhill on 26th October with the return game at Celtic Park set for New Year’s Day.  We are scheduled for two trips to the Capital within a month but don’t go booking your flights for the Hearts game in September, just in case…..

Curious news today that Celtic director and BT chief executive, Ian Livingston, will leave the telecoms company after five years at the top to become Minister for Trade and Investment in the coalition government.  Livingston will serve from the House of Lords.  How about boosting the ailing Scottish football industry by lobbying for a merger with a neighbouring league?

Have you bought a ticket for Firday night’s Lions Roar event?  Join hundreds of Celtic fans and the Lisbon Lions to watch the Lisbon game and for a Q&A afterwards.

Me and the wife have been going to Santa Ponsa for the last 7 years and I would recommend the Pionero & Santa Ponsa Park Hotel, sister Hotels which are joined on to each other, closely followed by the Rey Don Jaime which is on the next street. All of them are just a couple of hundred yards away from good Celtic pubs etc. There is also a good wee cafe on the same street as the Pionero and SPP called Napenta, with first class food.

  10. gincher,

We stayed in the Iberostar in Santa Ponsa, a few years ago.

Handy for the bars, etc. i.e. ten minutes walk, but far enough away for peace and quiet, when required.

    No weans.

Masty- I was getting my Tam’s mixed up last night- Tam Ward was a bit older than me- though I remember the name and a Davie Ward who stayed in QE square- I was thinking of Tam McClafferty from the damp hooses- hope that clears it up

  12. Well done Jackie Mac for breaking ranks and indicting the SFA for their negligence.

He was, of course, not only referring to the Hearts case, or, even clubs who had adopted poor business methods.

He nodded towards criminalty and fraud.

We have had pleasant stays at the Coma Gran Aparthotel in Sa Coma. There is a lovely beach and a walk along to the neighbouring town which has one of the best fish restaurants that I have ever eaten at on the headland.

  16. Obviously advice for Gincher67

The restaurant is in S’illot and it overlooks the beach which at night the locals use after the brits and Germans have headed to the bars.

  20. Will be interesting to see how the Hearts administration develops.

It is already differing from Rangers. All players up for sale already.

Rangers were keeping most of theirs and trying to get in others.

SFA have set a precedent that Hearts will hope to follow. All the way to Div 3 and liquidation. No debts paid and “club” stays the same.
