Don’t book travel to Edinburgh, lobby for league merger

807

If you are missing your competitive football fix you’ll have devoured the fixture list this morning but it’s still over seven weeks until the first league game of the season, when the league flag will fly before we face Ross County (we will have played a Champions League qualifier five weeks from today).

Thereafter, due to the postponement of a home game to allow for a financially lucrative friendly, Celtic are on the road six times in nine league fixtures, so if our away form is anything like it was for much of last season, it’s likely we will be in the mix, instead of clear leaders, come the end of October.

After an absence of some time, Celtic have a local derby to look forward to.  They meet Partick Thistle at Firhill on 26th October with the return game at Celtic Park set for New Year’s Day.  We are scheduled for two trips to the Capital within a month but don’t go booking your flights for the Hearts game in September, just in case…..

Curious news today that Celtic director and BT chief executive, Ian Livingston, will leave the telecoms company after five years at the top to become Minister for Trade and Investment in the coalition government.  Livingston will serve from the House of Lords.  How about boosting the ailing Scottish football industry by lobbying for a merger with a neighbouring league?

Have you bought a ticket for Firday night’s Lions Roar event?  Join hundreds of Celtic fans and the Lisbon Lions to watch the Lisbon game and for a Q&A afterwards.

“Salmond….. I was on the terrace’s in the seventies when we celebrated the centenary”

That was all he had to celebrate in the 70s – Hertz didn’t come remotely close to winning any trophies.

  6. long time since I posted , thank feck say most of you, just been very busy and to be honest a bit fed up with post season nonsense.

I have been keeping an eye on things here and was delighted to see the success of all the fund raising activity championed on this site, more power to you all.

The Hertz liquidation, which is what it will be will come as the biggest “so what” or “told you so” to a lot of us. Despite having enjoyed some great days at Swinecastle , I hold no affection for the club or the patrons of the main stand enclosure in particular.

My main reason for posting is to ask for some help, after a period of hard graft I am off to Oban this weekend with Mrs McC , every cloud etc…

I was a frequent visitor there many years ago and love the place, my last visit was at the end of a fund raisng cycle run 3 years ago on a very wet April evening. It was a pretty dour place and looked in need of a refit. I struggled to find a decent boozer that would come up to the Mrs standards.

I am after good bar, bit of food perhaps and some live traditional music with hopefully no police involvemant at closing time.

Any CQN posters able to give me a steer ?

    Hail! Hail!

They certainly did – and like their Glasgow brethren – soon those memories are all they will have.

    Absolutely not very good, really.

I remember liking it at the time, whenever the time was.

Last night, Radio 4 played a show by a very funny young woman from Hull named Lucy Beaumont. That was much better.

There is a seafood restaurant which is fab. Cant remember the name right now but should be googliable !.

Also believe there is a cfc pub

thanks , no problems with restaurant recommendations , just some local knowledge on a decent boozer would be good.

    Cheers

  12. I was just watching the highlights of Celtic v Leeds 1970 (one of my favourite childhood memories) on TalkCeltic and I have often wondered why is it not possible to buy a copy of this match (first Leg also). Does anyone know the explanation for this?

@CelticNewsNow: SFA urged to tighten up licensing http://t.co/Ik5gnGYyyM #Celtic @videocelts

Well said Jackie MCNamara. Is he Auldheid?

    =================================

Naw he just read an article from 2 years ago on Celtic Underground :)

    On his point though

Here is an angle that occured to me reading Jackie MacNamara’s article saying the SFA had to take some responsibility for what is happening to Scottish football because of their failure to apply club licensing properly.

This is a view that I think will take on a momentum from new kids on the block like Jackie.

But here is the angle: what if none or very few clubs would have been granted a club licence had the SFA been as strict as required? What if CO had been doing lots of clubs favours by not shutting them down or at least making licences conditional on a series of agreed steps to make them sustainable?

What if lots of clubs are indebted to CO and he has their names?

I think we are going to have to start thinking amnesty if we are ever going to get at the truth and create the conditions for meaningful change.

  16. Good evening from a wild Nordrhein Westfalen. I have heard of hailstones the size of golf balls but until tonight had not witnessed them. My car and my wife’s car a covered in dents and so are all the neighbour’s cars. Body shops will be raking it in over the next few weeks.

Starry if you are on I hope this is not heading down your way, stay in and stay safe.

  19. My view on the hertz situation is moulded by a certain lisbon lion, who had an eventful 1967 cup final. tynecastle was his least favourite ground due to the proximity of the hertz support to the pitch and their methods of abuse. ‘worse than ibrox?’ says i ‘oh yes, much worse’ says he….flats hopefully.
