Don’t book travel to Edinburgh, lobby for league merger

807

If you are missing your competitive football fix you’ll have devoured the fixture list this morning but it’s still over seven weeks until the first league game of the season, when the league flag will fly before we face Ross County (we will have played a Champions League qualifier five weeks from today).

Thereafter, due to the postponement of a home game to allow for a financially lucrative friendly, Celtic are on the road six times in nine league fixtures, so if our away form is anything like it was for much of last season, it’s likely we will be in the mix, instead of clear leaders, come the end of October.

After an absence of some time, Celtic have a local derby to look forward to.  They meet Partick Thistle at Firhill on 26th October with the return game at Celtic Park set for New Year’s Day.  We are scheduled for two trips to the Capital within a month but don’t go booking your flights for the Hearts game in September, just in case…..

Curious news today that Celtic director and BT chief executive, Ian Livingston, will leave the telecoms company after five years at the top to become Minister for Trade and Investment in the coalition government.  Livingston will serve from the House of Lords.  How about boosting the ailing Scottish football industry by lobbying for a merger with a neighbouring league?

Have you bought a ticket for Firday night’s Lions Roar event?  Join hundreds of Celtic fans and the Lisbon Lions to watch the Lisbon game and for a Q&A afterwards.

  2. Been away for a few weeks and keep seeing on posts that the BBC have stated Sevco is a new club. Not a earth shattering revelation to fellow Celtic supporters (but perhaps in the context of the BBC it is).

Aye that item amused me. On the same subject and in the interests of clarity

Rangers, whilst in administration and before liquidation asked the SFA if they could be granted a UEFA licence.(see

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/rangers-bid-for-euro-action-a-non-starter-1118439

    )

The SFA knocked Rangers back for not fulfilling Articles 47 and 50 ie no audited accounts and unpaid tax and did not make an application to UEFA.

So old Rangers were stopped from competing last season for 2012/13 only.

However we all know that a club based at Ibrox is ineligible to play in Europe for three years but the club that is ineligible to play is -yup- Newco not oldco.

Newco are ineligible to play not only because they have not obtained the right on sporting grounds but because the fail the criteria under Article 12 by not having three years MEMBERSHIP of the SFA. Not because they do not have 3 years accounts as is often but but wrongly stated.

After 3 years membership they might have three years audited accounts but that is not the reason for the 3 year exile.

Insufficient time as a member of the national association (SFA) is how UEFA (not the SFA) see national association membership, taking into account changes in company structure (in Rangers case liquidation).

This is the reason UEFA will not touch them for 3 years and that means starting again and building up a new history of which accounts are only a part.

Article 12 of UEFA FFP is why UEFA treat them as a new club and if I were UEFA I’d tell the SFA to spell the rules out for the Scottish football supporting public and put the issue to bed as well as asking the SFA do they really want to step out of the UEFA rules sphere and go it alone and write FFP rules according to Ogilvie, Bryson and LNS?

Timing is all. On the same day that Ian Livingstone leaves his post as Chief Executive of BT, Ofcom announced that it has opened an investigation into Sky over an accusation by BT of abusing a dominant market position. Technically it is about sharing platforms for Sky Sports 1 and 2, and of BT’s new sports vehicle, and whether any football supporter will benefit remains to be seen. In the meantime arise Lord Livingstone of Parkhead!

” My report on Rangers was completed today and it will be published later this year in a refereed legal journal. Conclusions are firm and solid.

I conclude that because of the initial structure and incorporation of the company there can now be no continuation of the same entity.

My report also concludes that the club could be a recognizable entity,it does not have the legal capacity for corporate separation

The rigor , intellectual precision ,robustness and appropriateness of the research , do not leave any doubt that Rangers are now a new entity. ” .

Even the dugs in the street know they are a new club.

But, while they are still playing at the bigot dome, calling themselfs the huns, they are, albeit new huns, but huns all the same.

If they had gone about things in a different manner, accepting they were a new club, they could have gotten just as many season book holders, they could have played the persecution card, the thick huns would have bought it, and lapped it up, nobody likes them but they don’t care.

Whatever, it gives up a deal of amusement.

As per last season Celtic have been drawn at home for the first two SPL matches (this had never happened before) meaning we have to postpone a home fixture again – probably to be played on a Tue/Wed night in the middle of winter.

Then let them argue somehow their club incorporating as a company then as a PLC managed to stay seperate in law.

They liked the Court of Session when they disagreed with the SFA Judicial Panel registration ban, so it shows they regard the law as the ultimate arbiter (as it has to be) – so let’s hope they’re stupid enough to bring it up and try to persuade a court that -in law- there was always a separation between the club and the company despite the so-called separate club never having a single bit of evidence to show that separation.

    …………………………………………..

A Rangers fan who described a former Celtic player as a “f*nian b******” did not breach anti-bigotry laws, a sheriff has found.

Richard Scroggie shouted the abuse at Dundee United’s Irish midfielder Willo Flood during a game against the Ibrox club.

On Wednesday, Dundee Sheriff Court heard Scroggie shouted “f*** off back to Celtic you f*nian b*****d” at Mr Flood, who left the Parkhead club in 2010.

The 48-year-old was cleared of singing “f*** the Pope and the Vatican” at the game during his club’s Scottish Cup defeat at Tannadice earlier this year.

Sheriff Kenneth Hogg instead convicted Hoggie of breach of the peace after branding Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act “confusing” and “very, very difficult to wade through”.

He also criticised the evidence of two officers attached to the Football Co-ordination Unit Scotland (FoCus), who stated Scroggie had shouted abuse about the Pope and Vatican during the tie in February.

Sheriff Hogg said: “I’m troubled by their evidence – I wasn’t impressed by their suggestion that Dundee United is a sectarian club – I’ve never heard that before in my life and the officer was trying to create that impression.”

Earlier, the accused’s lawyer Alasdair Gray accused PC Adrian Kelly and PC John Brown of “lying” over their claims the Rangers fan inserted the offensive lines into a rendition of the song Follow Follow.

The two officers told the court that around 20 minutes into the match they heard Scroggie shout the abuse at midfielder Mr Flood.

PC Brown then issued Scroggie with a warning for the abuse, which Scroggie admitted making. But, the football fan, of Kilbarchan Road, Johnstone, Renfrewshire, denied the officers accusations regarding the song.

Mr Gray asked PC Kelly: “I put it to you that the second incident simply didn’t happen and you have fabricated it just so you could charge him with something.” PC Kelly said: “No.”

During cross examination of PC Brown, who also said he had seen Scroggie sing the song, Mr Gray asked: “If we hear from witnesses who say he didn’t sing that song at all what would you say to that?” PC Brown said: “I’d say that they were lying.” Mr Gray responded: “I suggest that it is you that is lying.” PC Brown responded: “You can suggest it – but you would be wrong.”

Scroggie pled not guilty to a charge of engaging in behaviour of a kind which is likely to incite public disorder by shouting, singing and chanting foul and abusive language of religious hatred.

Sheriff Hogg cleared him of that allegation, but found him guilty of an alternative charge of breach of the peace by shouting language of religious hatred.

Finding him guilty, the sheriff said: “The section of the legislation you were charged under is very confusing. It is very unhelpful and until some appeals go through we won’t get much guidance.

“There is a reasonable doubt about whether you sang Follow Follow, so that takes us back to your original remark only. I can’t convict you under the Offensive Behaviour at Football legislation because I’m not convinced that that one remark would be likely to cause public disorder.”

Defence solicitor Alasdair Gray said his client is a former soldier who had “served for 22 years in the army, doing tours of duty in Iraq, Northern Ireland, Afghanistan and Kosovo”.

Sheriff Hogg fined Scroggie £150 and refused a Crown motion to impose a football banning order. The judge added: “This was the height of stupidity. I still can’t grasp why people shout this stuff – it has nothing to do with football and it has to stop.”

When you lose everything, defiance is all you have. When you see the dimwits who speak on behalf of the Zombies it is little wonder they are confused.

As Charlotte has revealed – the Huns fans groups were taking their instructions from Media House: “let’s unite and get behind Craig Whyte to show his critics we don’t like their disclosures”.

Fans at any other club would have organised themselves the moment those revelations were made. What the Huns did was meet Craig Whyte, congratulate him on having a nice car and then put their name to a Media House statement.

But it is very funny. Although, as I’ve said on here many a time – none of them come out with the same club bollox when you speak to them face to face … they don’t even discuss football.
