Dunfermline debacle caution ahead of Motherwell

996

Do you remember the game after the Cluj Champions League debacle last August?  Of course you do, you are still chasing the cold from you bones, it was a League Cup encounter with Dunfermline at Celtic Park, where the Championship club took the game to extra time.  The game, the only domestic cup tie in 34 games we have not won in 90 minutes, was six minutes from going to penalties before James Forrest settled things.

I don’t know what happened in the dressing room between Cluj and Dunfermline but I cannot imagine it is a happier workplace this week.  This is Celtic and everything goes on the line every game.  Let’s not have a repeat of the Dunfermline performance.

I know a few Motherwell fans and they are unanimous in their praise of David Turnbull, their star 21-year-old midfielder who joined Celtic on a reported £3m deal yesterday.  Turnbull originally signed for Celtic in June last year, before failing a medical.  A knee operation, and the best part of a year in recuperation, saw him clinch his dream move yesterday.

The question now for the manager is, how does he shape his midfield?  Therein lies the answer to our season.

Welcome to Celtic, David.

  1. I always fancied Slavin Bilic

Done a great job with Croatia and would have been better with West Ham with decent backing

  3. 31003,

At the time he would have been my first choice also, but I have no idea why he never came, none what so ever.

And any others that might be interested

31003 says Eddie when held up to a mirror. I’m hiding nothing….it’s in plain sight

I hope he plays big Tam, I honestly think there is a lack of movement up front as everything goes out wide.

    We need options

    Norriem,

Why would you go for an english manager considering it is the most over priced market on the planet.

Can we agree Chris Hughton declared his allegiance to the Republic of Ireland ?

Therefore he is NOT an English Manager

Now I agree on the over rated English market you commented on

I was responding to the English. Manager statement

And believe you knew that ?

Chris will have many contacts, and these may not be all in the overrated English market ?

Is all Nick Hammonds contacts in the English market

Is he not our Chief Scout ?

My original comment was on a highly rated Coach, was it Not ??? And one was available, if we were looked by for a professional Coach

  8. Hes still in the squad, but not in lennys plans. Let give Turnbull a chance and see what the boy can do . I hope he becomes a legend I really do.

  9. Let lenny finish what he started and if he gets the sack blanc is the man with the contacts, stature and could really take us to the next level I’ve been craving.

    I’m NL

  10. It’s all about opinions. I can’t agree with the much used phrase We are in the best Celtic times.

For me it was the Seville year. Even with the crappy end.

PS : It’s on my bucket list to return to Seville some day and see what it looks like 😀🍺🥃

    HH.

  11. I’m for letting Lenny continue…providing his passion comes back…otherwise it’s pointless

  12. Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers moved three points clear and equalled a 114-year defensive record with a routine win at Hamilton Academical.

The above from the BBC website if I was a licence fee payer I’d be furious with this blatant lie, Rangers FC which created that record in 1906 died in 2012, that’s not the ‘opinion’ of a bitter Tim it’s a fact but I suppose once you start on a lie there’s no giving up on it!

  13. Hi norriem,

I sincerely apologise for the mix up and calling an irish man english.

But I believe that chris may be another manager just happy to be in a job.

We need to think big and move to the next level. Get someone with ambition who we know is only using us as a stepping stone and wont be willing to damage his brand for any club but wants to manage the biggest teams in the world.

  14. In Lennys first term, near the end, the footy we were playing was pretty dire at times. One game stood out for me. Motherwell at Fir Park. Suddenly we played a high press, one touch game. It was beautiful to watch and we won at a canter. I remember asking myself why we can’t play like that all of the time….

  15. Give your point of view but stop the name calling cause some of us see things are not right and not looking through green tinted glasses like some others

    agree

  16. Pitymevin 7.32pm

Apart from a bad error the other night I think El Hamed is our best defender .. with the benefit of hindsight maybe Bitton should have played instead of Ajer … Bitton would have maybe helped both El Hamed & Barakas … East after the event

  17. Greenpinata

1970 for me. But I am an old bugger. The night we beat Leeds at Hampden the world could have ended.

Again the season had a disappointing end but we were quite superb.

We were a brilliant side and how we lost the final heaven only knows.

  18. GFTB,

That was a point I was making about the GK, when you have confidence in the guy behind you, you relax and play better. We may have a fine GK but he was brought in to late to make an impact with his team mates and this is when silly mistakes creep in.

  19. Markiebhoy,

For me it was winning the uefa cup semi and the possibility of winning it. following by the invincible season and then the TT as I’ve always hated hearts more than the hun as they are huns with a Edinburgh accent and kid on their no.

  20. MARKIEBHOY

    Another factor might be this….

My uncle, at the time was president of the Kearney Celtic Supporters club. He travelled with the team to and from the final. Only strong words from Jock Stein stopped Jinky and Tg going “on strike” before the game due to lack of bonuses apparently promised but not forthcoming. I’m not saying they didn’t try but not a good mindset playing a final I’d imagine

  21. Took them to extra time though. So we never lost a European final over 90 minutes.

I was there. Chaos in Milan because of some local strikes. Thank goodness the bars were open.

  22. 31003

It was quite strange because he never usually took anything for granted.

He said after ’67 when the media were bumming him up –

” there will be a time in the future when we don’t know where our

next point is coming from” – utter genius legend and so self effacing.

  23. Pitymevin 7.54pm

Spot on … sometimes it’s the players beside you that help you more than the best players … hopefully Neil learns from this and on a side note … any one player that is even thinking of pastures new … show them the door

I (most of us) want Celtic players who want to be there

  24. some bhoys just like to pick a blog argument if they think the other bhoy is getting the better of them, they like to give lots of fly digs but don’t like the feeling they have lost.
