Echoes of great Celtic teams

1910

I thought it was the emerging influence of Nir Biton as a central midfield influence who transformed Celtic against Hearts on Sunday; he looked that good.  If anything, Celtic were better in his absence last night, more fluid, more incisive, against a better team.

It’s all about shape.  The correct shape gives players time on the ball when they need it, allows them to look industrious, not static, and makes them difficult to counteract.  The only two questions are: can we maintain it, and when was the last time a Celtic team controlled the ball like this?

Forget about trying to maintain this in Barcelona, that’s far too risky, but if we can play like this at Tynecastle and Fir Park we can do so anywhere else in Scotland.  Don’t think we’ve played like this since the Centenary Season.

It’s difficult to interpret the vandalism at Fir Park last night.  As Celtic fans we don’t have a point of reference for this stuff.  “Had enough.  Won’t be back at another away game”, was the verdict of a friend I spoke to, who has probably missed no more than 40 domestic away games in the last 40 years.  The proportion of Celtic fans who would never vandalise seats is well above 99%, but there’s a new and unwelcome phenomenon in British football and Celtic have the best views in the country.

Getting back to more familiar ground, The Kano Foundation asked me to pass on this message:

“The Kano Foundation World Cup 2014 Predictor

Friends,

2013 has been a world class year for The Kano Foundation. We’ve had our first ever bucket collection, held our 3rd annual dance, welcomed groups from across Scotland, England and Ireland, and last but by no means least we will welcome our 2000th child to Celtic Park. All this would not be possible without your unwavering support.

As we move towards the new year, The Kano Foundation are always keen to continue our work while bringing you the fans new and exciting ways to support us. The fabulous prizes on offer at our Golf Day in September are just one example.

To keep up this form, we are delighted to announce a very special competition ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

We will be running a predictor competition unlike many others. At first reading our two part predictor is very similar to others where you enter the scores and winners for the 72 games.

However, we are also offering an unbelievable bonus prize fund of £10,000 for anyone who can correctly predict the outcome of all 48 group games . Yes, that’s correct – £10,000 to be shared amongst all entrants who can correctly predict the general outcome (winner or draw) for the all the group games.

In order to run both competitions we are asking entrants to make a one-off donation of £10. From the funds raised 50% will go as a donation to TKF with the remaining 50% available for prizes.

With just 100 entrants, not only can we raise a £500 prize fund for the predictor, we can also take over 200 kids to a game at Celtic Park. A tidy reward for a just few minutes brain effort!

All you need to do to enter is register you interest by email at:

wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com Please include TKFWCPred as the email/paypal subject and tell us your user/team name so we can verify your entry. If you’ve not got enough room, enter as much detail as you can and tell us what you’ve done so we help.

Then make your payment into The Kano Foundation bank account (30-13-01 00989961 through Paypal or by sms by texting KANO11 £10 to 70070 – remember to include your name/email address.

Visit our predictor webpage (coming soon) to find more details and follow your progress

Once again, we hope we can rely on your support to make this predictor a success for us in terms of fundraising and for potentially making one of you £10,000 richer!

Thank You

The Kano Foundation”

Congratulations to the Celtic fans who run and support The Kano Foundation, our community is rightly proud of the. Register your interest by emailing: wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com.

Less than one day to bid on bid on the charity auction for lunch at Cinc Sentis in Barcelona. Another bounty from the excellent reputation Celtic fans have. If you’re going out next week, treat yourself………

Find it really difficult to criticise any part of the Celtic support.

    So I won’t .

    Hail Hail

    So I will.

Just caused a wee bit of commotion on FB…

Some Huns commenting on winning 20 in a row….how brilliant they are…..

I have just posted….it’s like a university graduate going back to primary1 and boasting how they are the cleverest in the class…not going down too well….

try this one with them, keeping it in context, Billy was in p7 and kept back from going to the highschool for 3 successive years, and is now playing for the primary 5s where he is the best player, the biggest the strongest and the top scorer,

and the best fighter in his class.

Did see what seemed to be a lot more young fans with scarves up over their faces in the crowd at the start . . . Got to be stamped out.

    Why?

Why should what people wear or how they dress be “stamped out”?

Would you say the same about young men wearing hoodies in shopping malls?

What about Muslim women wearing the Burka in the street?

What about a young man wearing a scarf across his face as he walks along the street in a freezing fog?

    Where does it end?

Believe and have faith in our Manager my friend. On your later post, you have the faith and are most probably worried if you did have doom and gloom Moira would pop down to sort you out, just like Clarence did for George in its a wonderful life. Moira though already has her wings…:)

If the scarf over the face is to hide the identity of the individual so that he can commit anti social acts and criminal damage without fear of being caught, then that is a problem.

It’s not the covering of the face that’s the problem, it’s the motivation for doing so.

    No. I am not CERTAIN.

But I am content to accept that there is no reason to believe otherwise.

Yes, we also have cretins among the vast majority of our decent supporters.

To believe otherwise is self delusion.

We have to confront them & eliminate them.

  11. the long wait is over on

    Tom

    Doh!

My post wasn’t at all clear.

What need stamped out is the flares and the seat breaking.

Clearly wearing a scarf over your face isn’t anything of itself but I don’t like to see it. Always makes me wonder why you need to hide your identity.

  12. About the football, the last 2 games have been fantastic , the team sublime. Playing that brand of football really is the Celtic way.

    Long may it continue .

I am also sure Pukki will be a great player for us .

His movement is superb and I think he has a fitba brain.

Playing off the main striker he will be a legend

  13. ive got another problem with all this,

seriously, why are the police so reluctant just to make arrests at the match, as events are happening.

if they are scared to go in , what are they being paid for ?

  14. glendalystonsils –

I agree. If that is the motivation, then that is a problem.

But do you treat the problem by banning everyone from wearing a scarf over their face?

If the guy wearing a scarf across his face commits a crime, deal with it. If he doesn’t, let it be.

  15. Kilbowie Kelt.

I agree mate with most of what u say but I would rather wait until it is confirmed if they are Celtic supporters or not before commenting

    Hail Hail

  16. the long wait is over on

    Saint stivs.

    Correct.

A cynic, which thankfully I’m not, might suggest they’re happy to let us self harm in public…

  19. Only those in possession of the facts can make a truly valid comment about the ” events” at Fir Park.

We can, of course, predict that a support the size of Celtic`s will have some undesirables. We cannot, though, assume that any unsavoury behaviour at matches involving Celtic must come from that un representative element.

  20. Our defenders are becoming our best attackers.

Last night Izzy put in a cross and Lustig was on the end of it.

We arguably have the best footballing centre backs in the history of the club.

    Total football here we come.

So called shame game v deadco hundreds of seats broken in their end- no reporting in media

2 weeks ago v Aberdeen their fans post pictures of wrecked CP toilets in the away end- no media attention

Last ever game v deadco sees a video posted of their fans including police wreck CP toilets- no media attention

Motherwell v celtic- smoke bombs and broken seats= cue widespread media criticism including blaming the GB

Is that PR firm still being paid to maximise the impact of negative stories about us?

  23. Has anything been said about Pukki’s booking? Has the referee apologised yet? Have the Scottish Senior Football Referees Association commented? Has Stuart Dougal been rolled out to voice their point of view?

  24. BadaB

Sorry for the late reply, dragged oot shopping.

I said Brogans post was quality, and it was.

At no time did I defend what happened last night, I said that no way I condoned the vandalism, and that those who caused the damage should be hunted, doesn’t sound like defending it to me.

Deflect, the GB said on their site that the damage wasn’t down to them, nor was the pyro.

I think they have a serious problem re the hangers on, and if they don’t sort it, their time will be short lived.

My point was about all the people jumping on the anti GB bandwagon, should imo be better off exerting their energy trying to bring down the sfa, cos it seems to me their hate for their own support is far worse than that of the huns who are ruining the game in scotland for the benefit of huns.
