Edinburgh again, Ticket Office Blues

635

While Celtic are in the middle of a month with six home games, we face Hearts on Sunday on their eighth consecutive home game and tenth game on the trot in Edinburgh. Runs of games like this do you no favours in the long run, but they provide pockets or benefit.

Training schedules for Hearts have been perfect during this period, without needing to factor in a trip to Dingwall, for example. Game plans will have been consistent and clear. There will be modifications for the visit of the champions, but we will face a team who are as ready as they could be for the challenge.

This letter from the Ticket Office:

Like many of you, I have several season tickets in my wallet right now. They are not always used by the named person (Martin42 has been unable to use his ticket since August (!) due to injury).

I have not been in touch with the club, so can only wonder what “the Celtic Ticket Office is not obliged to provide information about the named Season Ticket Holder to any third party” could be about. It is an obscure reference, as is “in all cases relating to Season Tickets photo ID is required”.

Letters like this are never produced purely to irritate, there will be an issue to be addressed. It will not be a mean-spirited attempt to stop you taking a friend to the occasional game – which we all do.

But if the issue is serious enough to write to all season ticket holders: explain, explain, explain.  It’s not just the perma-rage-against-the-man-types (you don’t know who you are, so don’t bother wondering) who are troubled by this, some will be reluctant in future to invite a friend along to Celtic Park on a spare ticket.

Lessons learned, I’m sure.

Good to have you back posting, you snivelling wreck(!)

Back in the 80s,I had a few pals in Embra. The Hearts lads,we would meet them in The Haymarket,go our separate ways, meet up afterwards.

I made a right few drinks off them in 85 when they thought they would beat us,I could hardly drink them all. 5-1,if Willie Johnston hadn’t scored in the last minute,I may have had to admit defeat.

It was a long night, but I drank every one owed.

Hibs,we took turn about which end we went in.

About the same time,we were in the section across from the main stand when some eejit threw a CS canister into our section.

Cue mayhem as everyone ran on to the pitch. Not me,I know that stuff settles,I dragged my mates up the way.

I’m pretty sure that game didn’t finish till nearly 6pm. Me and my bestie were meant to meet the girls at 530,and wouldn’t believe our excuse till they read about it in the papers the following day.

It’s in the papers,it must be true. Changed days indeed.

  3. Neil Lennon’s comments this week have come back to haunt him.

Suppose you could argue Hibs were tired playing their 3rd game in 6 days.

Next up for Aberdeen is Celtic Park next Saturday, lets hope the loss of Ryan Christie and their Glasgow travel sickness inhibits them.

Graeme Murty has revealed that former Rangers manager Walter Smith is helping him bring stability to the club. “I got some brilliant advice in the week from Walter, who is always on tap and was holding court in the office because his grandsons were playing at one of our community football sessions.”

I was in Edinburgh very early 80s for about 18 months and again from early 86. I was in the home end at Easter Road the day we lost 4-3 in a cup tie.

ot a good day as we had apparently saved the day with a minute to go. I made a lot of mates who supported either of two main teams ( and even 2 who supported Meadowbank.)

The gas canister day was a bad yin. My dad was through and we were supposed to meet my mum and other female family members who had been shopping. If you told me it was 7 o’clock we finally met them I would believe you. Last away game you could pay at the door I think

I twice went to the Hearts bit of the main stand at Tyney. The first was the day Tommy Coyne scored a hat trick- no hassle to speak of- and the other 7 or 8 years later when Cadete scored two. Which was a long and unpleasant afternoon. Except at the end when my mate and I decided to blow our cover.

  6. Mike in Toronto,

Very sad to hear the news of your friend.

No more suffering is good though, if there is a bright side to this.

  7. WEEBAWBABITTY-I did go to holy cross and remember chic owning the tabac. As I said last week no apologies needed mate, this place would be boring if we all agreed

Yes I was fully aware of that as it landed in my inbox prior to the letter being sent oot, posted tongue in cheek but maybe I should have added a wee smiley

  9. Hibs not by a longshot the second best team in the country and they won’t be anywhere near the top three if we pinch McGinn from them in January

  10. Celtic are in talks to sign RB Leipzig central defender Marvin Compper for a fee of around £1m.

The 32-year-old German visited Glasgow this week with a view to joining the Scottish champions when the January transfer window opens.

Compper has been with Leipzig since 2015 and previously played for Fiorentina, Hoffenheim and Borussia Monchengladbach.

His only senior Germany cap in 2008 came in a 2-1 defeat by England.
