I know we all liked big Erik. He brought instant calm to Ronny Delia’s team when he arrived two years ago today. But, while 2016 started authoritatively for the central defender, it ended with him looking pensive and out of his depth at Ibrox, albeit in a Celtic win.
2017 has been largely forgettable for the player. This season has effectively been a write-off for him, after an injury in the Champions League qualifiers. It would have been better for all if he got a permanent deal elsewhere but at least a loan return to Midtjylland will afford him time to regain his confidence, hopefully leading to a new deal elsewhere in the summer.
I am sure we are still looking at the central defensive space for this month. There could be more in and out.
NEW CQN PODCAST OUT NOW FEATURING TOMMY SHERIDAN
A Celtic State of Mind presents its 30th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.
Kevin Graham is joined by Scotty Alcroft to interview Scottish pro-independence politician, Tommy Sheridan, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.
The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.
The other voice you may hear throughout this episode is that of former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, who is a friend of Tommy’s, and who was also interviewed separately that day for a future show.
You are sure to enjoy Tommy’s eclectic input, as he discusses everything from Catalan independence to Coolio, with a constant undercurrent of that thing called Celtic.
Order Jim Craig’s new Lisbon Lion Diary – Right Back to 67 from CQNBookstore.co.uk and you will receive a signed copy from the man himself plus a FREE copy of That Season in Paradise – Ten Months of Celtic Heaven signed by fellow Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld! I think its a good guess.
Your last paragraph is exactly my argument.
Goodnight Timland
Play nice
we have enough enemies out there without fighting amongst ourselves.

One of the most idiotic aspects of the OBAF Act is that a person could be arrested for an action whilst on the way to, or from, a Celtic match that would not be deemed illegal should they carry out the same act on the way to a Rugby game or Cricket match or any other sporting/public event.

“I am merely trying to say that diversity of opinion is not a bad thing. It stimulates thought for a start. Hope you are fine with that?”
It may not surprise you to know that I would disagree with that statement. I can accept that a range of views is healthy and that uniformity is boring BUT…….
It is not diversity, itself, that stimulates debate. It is the cohesion and power of the view itself if it flies contrary to what you previously believed.
For example, a debate on what colour the Man on the Moon is, could generate a diversity of views and opinions but it would not be stimulating, it would at bestm be merely playful and, at worst, boring.
No- it is the strength of evidence and observation that you bring to back up your opinion that stimulates to the level of debate. Merely having an opinion, asserted without evidence or argument, is just wafting air. You cannot enlighten or stimulate or persuade me unless you can show that your opinion has been thought through, that you have experiences and evidence that support it, and that you have considered alternative explanations for the phenomenon and found them wanting.
Now that stimulates debate.
And that is my opinion, that it is, this opinion of mine , that it is , which is mine.

Dena29… Read about your good news, what a relief for your family…. Good luck going forward.
THETIMREAPER @ 10:19 PM,
Of course you are correct…
Efe was often underrated due to his gaffs being often of the serious variety.
We now know what we suspected at the time, that VvD was the class act. But FF, Efe (form?) and Daneyer were all missed.
We’ve been struggling ever since…
SETTING FREE THE BEARS @ 10:12 PM,
I’m sure you are correct and I did notice Erik’s approach to zonal marking was Pollock’s;)
It’s interesting BR’s approach to developing his first team squad… results would suggest that he took over as Captain of the ship and went full steam ahead. Maybe in tactics, training and conditioning that’s the case.
But for me his signing/transfer/promotion policy has been more akin to turning an oil tanker…
I did say before BR started that players would loose their positions and not just those under-performing. I’m surprised by his methodical almost cautious approach to this but I’m far from disappointed.
His long term approach will have us heading in the right direction and keep us in good stead I’m sure.
Hail Hail
SFTB at 10.33, good post as usual, your final paragraph puts it nicely and frames the fears of many, I’m sure. It certainly frames mine…I mean, what can go wrong?
Owen at 10.42, yes, but…I don’t think I could go to Murrayfield and call opposing fans an English, French, Welsh, Italian or Irish bastard and not expect to get lifted. Or at least, I couldn’t do so with impunity. The thing is, the arresting officer wouldn’t arrest me under the OBAF act, as I understand it. He or she would use other legislation, that pre-existed the OBAF act, but would still be perfectly sufficient to detain me while I sobered up.
I could definitely sing Flower of Scotland, which (it could be argued) contains racist or at the very least anti-English sentiment, and get away with it. What strikes me as odd, though, is that it seems I could sing The Boys of the Old Brigade or The Roll of Honour at the rugby without risk of detention, whereas at the football…
Like quite a bit of the SNP’s legislation, there was maybe a grain of a good intention (not sure about that, but giving away the benefit of the doubt) but it was framed by people who didn’t take time to study and understand the issues, and what the legislation was intended to achieve. And so we end up with the half-baked embarrassment that we labour under. The changes to the act governing the sale of alcohol were equally half-baked, so a 14 year old can still readily buy a quarter bottle of cheap, makes-you-blind vodka at many a convenience store, no questions asked, but a proper wine merchant can’t give a grown adult a discount on a case of wine.
Don’t know how I got on to that tangent. Time for a drink and some Rebs, and it’s only Tuesday.
FIELDOFDRAMS
Drink and Rebs on a Tuesday , go for it !!!
fieldofdrams on 16th January 2018 10:57 pm
I agree with you about existing legislation more than adequately covering any possible scenario, indeed singing the same song at different events should not determine its legality.
As for a drink, way ahead of you mate. No work tomorrow so the craft ale left in the beer fridge from Christmas getting a rattle.
E-mail received from Govt.Minister at Holyrood,MSP Jamie Hepburn, and surprise ,surprise,he`s worried sick(not),about Scots Law`s lack of an alternative to the OBFA,seems cross party support is a concept too far for some.

Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones ‘not worth half Rangers’ offer’, says Ayr’s Ian McCall…
Just wondering…. if he is such a worthless player, why are Sevco after him?
okay bhoys, just had an hour long conversation with said poster, the post he was unhappy about was when i said my father took me to parkhead, and although a mild mannered man suddenly he would shout ya durty orange freemason barsteward when playing sevco, noteably when mr wharton was the referee, he has excepted my apolog,y no way did i want to offend anyone.hh.
MEA CULPA @ 11:23 PM,
Sevco’s transfer dealings have been appallingly unprofessional and embarrassing.
This has been bad enough but when they continuingly get away with this tapping up through the SMSM it’s other Clubs that suffer.
Unsettling your opposition’s key/inform managers and players at the drop of a hat with no intention of paying the going rate is ridiculous – it’s tapping up by any other name.
It was good to see Steve Clarke and Kris Boyd responding….
KB: “It pretty much sums it up as there’s a common theme the whole time. There’s one club unsettling everybody. If they want players then pay the money and come and take them.”
It’s the one Club who know the rules don’t apply to them…
Unsettling and undermining their SPL opposition Clubs. Aberdeen in a twelve point double header a case in point. These actions have consequences.
Embarrassing Scottish Football by trying to sign a player from Brighton H.A. without paying for the player. Having Mexican International Footballers, arriving home from Scotland and blowing their nose of the Clubs shorts due to the shabby way the Club conduct themselves.
Rumours abound about their financial well being…. Yet the SFA ignore the lot.
Contrast that when Ashley looked like he was taking control of the Ibrox Club to the dismay of the “great & good” of Scottish Football.
He was called in to “explain his intentions”, then action was taken against him. Very pro-active.
Compare that to how the “Real Rangers Men” are allowed to treat English and Scottish Football Clubs with contempt and ignore any financial fair play concerns…
They are nothing but a blight on the game.
The sooner we have a strong authority in Scottish Football that is going to put a boot o their neck and not remove it until they get iron clad assurances they will conduct themselves within the spirit and laws of the game as the other SPL Clubs do the better.
Not holding my breath…

Is it possible that the 2nd groveling will go into administration on feb 1st ? Thus rendering another Celtic Williflood window as secondary?
Mr Stein had the best solution
the Old Firm game is a social lung
lit baith ends sung thur hearts oot

Yeez need tae git real
There isny a Jungle anymair
that means, there isny any rebels anymair
that means the tight ripping conesuers

where no longer fans, they were, customers.
In short, the gemme was up when
Lawwell, Paul McBride and Corrigan the typist
summoned the Green Brigade tae Celtic Park
tae discuss sectarian singing at Celtic Park.
The Green Brigade told all of the three mentioned above
to do one. Within days, Corrigan was claiming that he
was going to smash the Marxist Green Brigade, and that
the new laws, OBAFA, had been agreed after discussions
with all the three names mentioned above, and that it was the
only fair way to go forward. In other wards, Lawwell and McBride
had stitched yeez up, right in front of yer eyes, and yer collective

When will the club respond to the Johnny Hayes mauling ?
