Erik ends difficult year with loan move

412

I know we all liked big Erik. He brought instant calm to Ronny Delia’s team when he arrived two years ago today. But, while 2016 started authoritatively for the central defender, it ended with him looking pensive and out of his depth at Ibrox, albeit in a Celtic win.

2017 has been largely forgettable for the player. This season has effectively been a write-off for him, after an injury in the Champions League qualifiers. It would have been better for all if he got a permanent deal elsewhere but at least a loan return to Midtjylland will afford him time to regain his confidence, hopefully leading to a new deal elsewhere in the summer.

I am sure we are still looking at the central defensive space for this month.  There could be more in and out.

NEW CQN PODCAST OUT NOW FEATURING TOMMY SHERIDAN

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 30th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Kevin Graham is joined by Scotty Alcroft to interview Scottish pro-independence politician, Tommy Sheridan, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.

The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.

The other voice you may hear throughout this episode is that of former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, who is a friend of Tommy’s, and who was also interviewed separately that day for a future show.

You are sure to enjoy Tommy’s eclectic input, as he discusses everything from Catalan independence to Coolio, with a constant undercurrent of that thing called Celtic.

There really is no need for any poll.

The vehicle of our discontent is what is being aired again.

Some think gnawing away at the Celtic is the thing to do.

    Bada

Statements yeah they could have. But future or past, what would you focus on ?

I think it’s fair to say a size-able chunk of our support are neither aware or even interested in Hun cheating and the SFA’s malfeasance and chicanery.

‘My God! That’s two Tory MSPs who will be voting to repeal it!’

    ###

I think it’s been clear from the outset that every SNP MSP will vote to keep the Act and every other MSP will vote to get rid of it.

Same as when it was introduced.

It’s telling that the SNP MSPs are sending out a standard reply. Donkeys led by donkeys.

Dear Mum, I know you’re always there

To help and guide me with all your care,

You nursed and fed me and made me strong

To face the world and all its wrong.

What can I write to you this day

For a line or two would never pay

For care and time you gave to me

    Through long hard years unceasingly.

How you found strength I do not know

How you managed I’ll never know,

Struggling and striving without a break

    Always there and never late.

You prayed for me and loved me more

How could I ask for anymore

And reared me up to be like you

But I haven’t a heart as kind as you.

A guide to me in times of plight

A princess like a star so bright

For life would never have been the same

If I hadn’t of learned what small things came.

So forgive me Mum just a little more

For not loving you so much before,

For life and love you gave to me

I give my thanks for eternity.

    blessed are the peace makers…..

  7. A huge thank you to everyone who’s taken the trouble to contact your MSPs it’s been an incredible effort.

Can I ask that you notify me if you receive an email which breaks the expected pattern.

We expect all SNP representatives to vote against James Kelly’s Bill and the representatives of all other parties to support it.

So, if you get anything not in line with this please let me know.

Supporting your team is not a crime.

  9. Just realised what Bournesouprecipe said about Lennoxtown as I was too busy dealing with a certain MSP. May I just say that those of us born in Lennoxtown might prefer it to the heat of Dubai. Well, at least, you can find Celtic there every day.

  10. how many loan players can you sign ?????? and are all pedros players loan signings ??????

  11. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Currently Brendan is reducing our player pool and I believe there will be other players who will leave before the window closes. If we are to bring young players through from our youth set up we need to create room for them. I am happy that we are not bringing in fringe players from other clubs we need to give our own youth players a chance and in Brendan I trust. H.H.

James Kelly’s office reply? – was almost automated as expected.

However, the fight is definitely still on thanks to the Celtic Trust and others.

    Keep up the good work.

Is this the final paragraph of the SNP standard response:

“While I understand your concerns regarding the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 and appreciate you contacting me, I believe it is a necessary piece of legislation and repealing it without a practicable alternative would set back our ambitions to eradicate hate crime across Scotland” ?

  18. OBAF was enacted because of the broonie!

    OBAF is anti free speech.

64% of Celtic fans polled supported it.

The famine song is free speech.

    Thank you, that’s much appreciated!

  20. If it were an anti Hate Crime Law then I think it would have more support if it was enacted as designed if such a law does not presently exist , however Hate Crime has been replaced by offensiveness for reasons as stated by Christine Graham, that final paragraph appears to be not even about the OBAFTCA but some Law on Hate Crime.

  21. Re Big Erik.

I loved his passion and his wholehearted attitude.

I wasn’t so keen on his lack of pace and the manner in which he lunged into tackles due to poor positioning.

I remember a game at Firhill where he was joined by Charlie Mulgrew at centre half. Chic coached him through the entire game. Sadly, he really looked lost.

I think Brendan knows what he’s doing here.

  23. Not for the first time I find myself looking up authors, references and citations while reading Mike in Toronto. Thanks Mike. Every day is a school day.

Mike doesn’t need anyone on this blog to qualify his remarks; particularly me.

    But I’m wading in anyway.

Mike talked about sacrifice. Boycotting Celtic would be that sacrifice. Boycotting the bookies would be much less of a sacrifice. That I think is one of the points Mike is making. The boycott would hurt Celtic with the intention of getting the board to hold the SFA and the SPFL responsible. The board’s response however, is beyond the control of those making the sacrifice.

While I’ve got the good keyboard out, here’s a couple of thoughts.

I think it may already be the case that Celtic have moved on from Scottish football generally; the SFA and the SPFL in particular. Celtic may feel that they have gotten everything they can from the Scottish setup and are looking for other opportunities. Therefore speaking out now has no advantages. The board may be playing the long game here. And I think Brendan may have bought into it. He’s not here for 10 in a row, he’s here for so much more!

What the long game is I don’t know but it involves Celtic’s future and all that money that is flooding the game but is unavailable to Celtic.

    T

ps Thanks MIT, always fun to give the fingers a workout.
