Examining sentiment ineffective governance

587

You’ll remember the days of the season ticket waiting list. Then came the imaginary waiting list, which existed a while after seats were openly available. Now anyone can browse onto the Celtic web site and view exactly how many seats are available, and where, inside Celtic Park. It tells a fascinating story.

There’s the odd solitary seat and a few hundred with restricted views but that aside only the previously-closed part of the Lisbon Lions upper is not subscribed – and a significant number of tickets there will not include games against Newco, who are likely to ask for their entire entitlement according to league rules.

We’ve not seen anything like this since 1995 when Celtic Park reopened. Season 1994-95, at 34,000 capacity Hampden, was far from inspiring. We didn’t even sell-out a late-season game against Oldco, but Fergus had mortgaged our future on a partly-built 40,000 seater stadium, with projects underway to finish the job.

I looked at the empty seats at Hampden that day in 1995 and wondered if Fergus had blown his money. It didn’t look possible that we’d come anywhere close to filling a much larger stadium. As last season came to an end today’s ticket bonanza looked equally unlikely (although I did expect a pick-up).

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to examine sentiment too closely, just be grateful when you have it and know that it can change quickly when it’s against you.

Noting the increase in match day traffic around Celtic Park, you have to wonder how many millions of man hours will be wasted sitting in immobile cars and buses because Police Scotland no longer man traffic lights to allow spectators to leave the area quickly after events.

That’s another cost of our Offensive Behaviour’ Bill. Ponder that when you’ve moved 1 mile in an hour next season. Event-related gridlocks are another manifestation of ineffective governance. For decades police had budget to control traffic junctions at major events, not any more, in Scotland, anyway.

Well hiring a bus from a Sevco Director, who owns Parks of Hamilton, says it all about the Directors of Celtic Football Club,

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Funny story, for last seasons game against Molde my CSC were badly let down by our – now ex – bus company who told us 4 days before the game that they didnae have a bus for us. We phoned every single bus company within a 30 mile radius of our pick up points and no-one could take us. Eventually I called a lurker on here whose CSC have used Parks for 30 years. We got a bus but it was bloody expensive.

Now, we have a rule where you can take your free bus anytime during the season. We had more members take their free bus that night than we had at any other time during the season! Bus driver was a massive Tim and ended up going to the game!

Strange thing is that night caused a split in our CSC. That we had used another bus company caused a few members to leave. So, while we don’t use Parks they dug us out a massive shaped hole that night!

  2. I wish Anthony Stokes well if indeed he goes to Hibs, the Lenny influence I guess.

In my opinion it is best for both Anthony and for Celtic. Who knows why he fell so much out the picture but that is the point, he has been out the picture for too long now.

As CORKCELT posted, Anthony can talk freely to other Clubs in January, unless he came in and played a blinder between July and January he is unlikely to be offered another Contract, better to cut our losses now.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  4. Very sad to report the news that a great wee Celtic fan from Fife passed away today.

Jock Finlay was a regular guest of mine for the dinner at the CQN open in Aberdour.

He was a best friend of Scott Brown’s mum & dad.

I had the pleasure of sitting next to Wee Jock at Paradise, regularly.

He was a joy to be around.

He was only admitted to hospital on Friday ,and to say his passing is a shock ,is putting it mildly.

My thoughts are with his family ,friends and loved ones.

The world is a sadder place for the loss of such a great wee man.

Stokes will possibly go to Rotherham with Stubbs,or Heid with Wigan, minimum 10k a week.I actually think because he had more skill and link up play than your average striker,NL started playing him on the left side where he linked up really well with Izzy. If he had just been played through the middle,he would be on 150 goals plus right now. His assists record is very good too

Another indicator of the decline in newspapers came in today’s Herald.

Talking of Leigh Griffith’s desire to get 100 goals for Celtic ahead of Kris Commons (Leigh is currently on 77 goals with the Hoops and Kris has 91) they then calculated that he needed just 33 (sic) goals to reach his target.

100% agreement, apart for LG none of the forwards brought in over the past couple of seasons were fit to lace Anto’s boots. Lets spend millions on garbage and let a decent striker leave – sounds like a plan
