Extra week training in July has huge impact

2173

I was concerned about a trip to Estonia after hearing Hearts struggle in their home leg against Estonian opponents last week, so news that Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps beat Flora Tallinn was welcome, although the concern was tempered as news arrived that Hearts were three goals up in the away leg.

The lesson here is that in July, one more week’s training has a huge impact on performance.

Brendan Rodgers will be happy with how training has progressed thus far, but it’s only when players put multiple 90 minutes under their belts that they are ready for competitive action. There’s not necessarily a great deal of work to do to overcome Red Imps (no offence intended), but qualifiers come thick and fast thereafter. Despite beating Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana yesterday, I expect Celtic will be more motivated for Saturday’s game against Maribor.

It gets serious from now onwards.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton believes Joey Barton can be the best player in the Premiership in the new campaign. (Sunday Herald)

Warburton insists Barton is smart enough not to get into any trouble in Glasgow. The former Burnley midfielder has already sparked a war of words with Scott Brown by claiming he is in a different league to the Celtic skipper. (Sunday Mail)

You of course have an opinion on all my posts, more so that one, resolution12 has ran its course and is done IMO, although malcontents will drag it out as they normaly do, the SFA , RFC, SPFL, C. O, all still in place, 3years wasted, and for what? To tell us something we all knew 4 year ago? Rangers died, did they? Because UEFA sent a letter to the res12 guys telling them that RFC /company died? Oh they did eh? Well someone better inform the person who looks after they’r website, history, trophys won, all still there, Victory? IMO naw.

He is always polite & funny & even if I am wrong about him being a Tim which I don’t think I am, he is doing a lot less harm or trolling then many others.

You choose to misrepresent what Res12 is about and in doing so are helping to keep in place the people and structures that enable the clear cheating that has gone on for years.

It was never about a new club. Had it been that news would have been rushed out first week in June. That was information UEFA volunteered thinking Res12 was about RFC and not the SFA. We never asked for it because it was never an objective of Res12.

I could say a lot more about where the motivation to do something about the SFA came from but the fear of damaging Celtic in the process has kept lips sealed.

My advice is read the update again it makes it clear that new club stuff is a diversion and it is not going to be any part of the response to UEFA.

  12. TD

It wasn’t “someone” who provided the new club information it was the Head of The Club Licensing & Financial Fair Play part of UEFA.

He carries authority way above any one responsible for keeping the UEFA Web site accurate. It’s his Dept that define what a club is and until his signature appears on the Web site itself it means SFA.

@rsmorrow1964 Absolutely. An insight of this trip has been the real training ground authority of Brendan Rodgers

Hopefully C/L group stages qualification will be achievable, although the difficulty to have the team up and running to that standard in such a short space of time may prove to difficult as has happened to new Celtic managers before, IMO despite being SPFL champions Brendan did not inherit a happy squad to say the least, he is cramming a lot of work in a matter of weeks he is trying to fit in the all of this…….. stamping his managerial authority on the squad, getting to know players individually, getting squad fit, finding a playing style, finding his top 11, etc etc………………..some postings on the friendlies are laughable fitba tosh, friendlies mean nothing

  17. I think that Tony Donnelly 67 has a point.

Ah mean, who is going to call the huns a ‘new’ club ?

Ah mean, any altercation that we’ve had with them, 3 times….

Glasgow Cup Final 2013(I think ?)

    LCSF 2015

    SCSF 2016

On all 3 occasions, Celtic FC has referred to them as, Rangers FC on, Celtic FC’s official website.

The gallant 4 Res12tance-Rebels deserve every credit going.

Also, the jiggery-poakery with the licence issuing ?

As far as I see, the guilty have left the building.

    Rangers FC died ?!?!?!

And yet, Celtic FC refer to them as, Rangers FC ?!?!?

So, who is the joke actually on ?

Ah mean, the entire David Murray era was one big cheating, jiggery-poakery-sham.

But, David Murray wore a t-shirt saying….”What r u gonna do aboot it Timmy?”

Ah mean, the huns kidded-on that they died in the biggest sporting-swindle Britain has ever seen.

They kidded-on that they died to, avoid paying any of the £140 million that they swindled….imho.

Celtic supporters ‘should’ feel an element of guilt in all of this as well.

    LNS’s verdict and the PLC-Hierarchy said…”We’re surprised !”

The Aberdeen fans on a visit to Celtic Park, waved a banner saying….”Celtic FC – Your Silence Is Deafening!”

And, what were Celtic’s fans doing at that time ?

They were showing they’re true colors by, gluttoning mountains of jelly & ice cream, whilst the Celtic PLC-Hierarchy took a juggernaut on the chin from LNS.

    Aye,….No Jungle = No Rebels.

No Rebels = Celtic support full of snobs(there to be took).

    And, taken they will be…….

  20. I assume under Brendan we will play better than last year, so should win the league and possibly a cup. I’ve no idea how we will do in Europe as I think he will need time to get the squad playing his way and getting players in.

Last night’s game may have been useful for BR as it shows what type of game we have to play in the SPL when teams just sit back against us.

  27. Regarding James Forrest contribution last night. His pace allows him to easily get past players IF there is space behind – something which he rarely gets in the SPFL. And he did that a few times during the game. Crossing with his left foot was very Izzy-esque unfortunately. The chance he provided for Ciftci was a clever outside of the right boot cross. But even then I was screaming at him to hit the bye line or even head for goal.

Interestingly, Kieran Tierney possesses the ability to sprint (and trick his) way past defenders. Also delivers fantastic, intelligent crosses. But haven’t seen much of that in these friendlies. Has he been told to concentrate on defending? If so, that would be a shame.

  28. Patrick Roberts on the other hand is lost on the left wing. His forte is coming inside and shooting – VERY well. He has trickery and close control that means he can also go outside, which he needs to do more often just to give defenders something to think about.

  29. So in summary. We still need a left winger. I thought GMS would be that man. And maybe he will. However it certainly is NOT Armstrong, Allen or Christie, despite their best efforts.
