Familiar failings

232

There was eniugh evidence on show last night to confirm Celtic’s Pot 2 opponent was on the softer side.  Despite this, our failure away from home in the Champions League continues.

Without Cameron Carter-Vickers we were always going to need everything to go our way.  After two successive VAR verdicts denied Leipzig a goal, you would be forgiven for thinking this was the case.  A familiar offering of a cheap goal put paid to that.

Disappointing though the result was, qualification for the knockout stages remains in Celtic hands.  Home wins in the next two games against Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk should be enough.

We should ask no less from Ange and the players.  Both opponents are vulnerable and miles off their best.

    Not your finest hour.

Did the “family” / estate of Charles Manson ask you to remove the post?

I can see why they might have been a wee bit upset.

Cadburys will be on the phone next.

  2. Calum’s absence could show us the flexibility within our current, preferred system.

    Hopefully, it’s there

  3. UJ – could be a good thing – dare I say it too – that Callum’s injured.

It finally forces Ange’s hand to try a different mid combo in an easier domestic game, and surely gives Cal a breather which any player with his no. of appearances would surely need. Hope his injury’s nowt serious.

I liked the cut of big Abildgaard’s jib, as we have a very nimble and polite mid without much mongrel in the undroppables of Cal, Reo and Matt O.

Also, playing Matt as a false 9 to close down defenders and the keeper left big midfield holes for two little guys to fill, and the strapping Jerries capitalised.

Oliver in for Callum. Reo and Bull start. 30 min cameo for Guchi.

Thankfully, Ange is unlikely to concur.

  4. CMcG replacement — AM vs OA — discuss?

OA looked a bit rusty on Wednesday.

Plus his pedigree looks a bit sub optimal — one NT game in 2020..

The RK situation looks a bit suspect — now in the 2nd tier in Russia.

Consequently not the stand-out DM we need but ability to work with.

MF — now or never for one of our own — SR.

Has 50 plus games out on loan over the past 2 years.

Might be EL1 but still a good level and he got good reviews.

If he is in the squad then he needs to be given his chance.

So my money is on AM starting — not a DM but enough MF ability / bandwidth to play the position with some quality.

  6. CB issues — CCV + CS vs SW + MoJ vs JH + RP — let the arguments begin.

JH + RP — would they fit in to our squad now?

RP — worth a pre-contract agreement in Jan?

RP — better than SMcK — my thoughts are yes.

JH seems to have substantially improved his positioning and his reading of the game.

Tall and pretty mobile — was the issue our lack of support / coaching / engagement?

Did he lose the dressing room when the ticket shenanigans came to light?

Leipzig behind us…,,now let us concentrate on our next game St.Johnstone tomorrow…minus CCV,CS and now CMcG.Get the required 3 points, then focus on Leipzig, hoping for victory and a return to the form we showed prior Real M.game.

Will get it to you soon.

●One goalie still required from question posed few days back.Packy Bonnar,Allen McKnight (Celtic) and Chris Woods(Rangers)…4 keepers playing for two glasgow sides and not one attached to Scotland national team.

  9. MICK; I’m up Yarra Valley way for a few weeks. Rain much? Tony Galenti !!

Rusty as he was, big Oliver put it about and will come real good and will get game time over Aaron or Robbo.

Ange will not play Robbo tomoz, unless he plans to play him Wed. It will be Oli for Cal and Reo and Matt but I think the latter x2 are a bit in and out of form lately.

Btw, the X-ray showed a fracture in foot bone; non structural, non joint tho. It’s still nipping.

SR should have been played on Wed night instead of JMcC.

JMcC looked lost to the point of incoherence when he came on.

He seemed to struggle — as too many do — trying to play to his instructions compared to what the rest of the team is doing / never mind the opposition.

Positioning / shape from others had gone and he looked double lost.

  13. What about the other Japanese attacking midfielder (I forget his name ) why isn’t getting a run in the first team ,(or is he injured or not good enough.

OK — so name calling is out?

Is this a local ban or a universal ban?

Interested to see how it is handled.

I’ve spoke a bit earlier about a Celtic player Mohammed Saleem

The first Indian player to play professional football, and with his

feet bandaged, not with boots on but with a cloth over his feet

Shouldn’t this ghuy be honoured more in the Celtic history ?

I think so, what do you think?

    H H Mick

  16. Mitch – you’re probably right about SR needing a chance to prove himself over JMcC.

But he seems as peripheral to Ange’s plans as Messrs Soro, Shaw and Scales were.

    His ship may have sailed.

Speaking of your lost bhoys idea, I saw the same thing in Jamesy Forrest when he came on. Sadly.

We sell ourselves short in so many ways.

  18. QF @ 12.17

SR — you are right in an absolutist sense.

But he came through from the youths so — to my way of thinking –we owe him more than OU / LSh / LSc.

He has played 50 games on loan — starting at 19.

At least two of the managers raved about him.

I would think that at the very least we should give him an opportunity to fail.

AP sees him at training / we don’t so that might be part of it — but I would think that we need to offer the youth a pathway to the 1st team and get SR to test it out.

He has been injured and he is maturing — can go either way as the ego / self-image develop — so maybe he wants to play as he starts to enter his footballing prime years.

You accept knockbacks when you can rationalise them on the basis of your tender age.

Becomes more of a struggle as you get older and the desire to play is not being accommodated.

Strange one — playing him soon would appear to be the next step.

No games and his future would appear to be elsewhere.

Wow! Thats a High Line, I post much less on here specifically because of the name calling. Most of us at one time or another have been insulted on here, some much much more than others, more power to your elbow though, will be interested to see if this new standard will be maintained, or perhaps it was just was just a throw away remark aimed at MadMitch.

We have desperately needed cover for CmcG for some time now, last couple of seasons in fact, well now we have the chance, hopefully Turnbull, Abildgaard, Mooy, or even James Mccarthy will be able to step up.
