It will surprise none of you that Fifa degreed the poppy to be an inappropriate political symbol for a football shirt, or to be paraded at a game. We’ve been slightly ahead of the game in Scotland, where the innocuous symbol which was conceived to raise money to aid destitute, often debilitated, former servicemen eat and live, has transformed into a symbol of pseudo-nationalism.
When you politicise the poppy you rob it of its universality. Today’s symbol is lesser because of this that those sold in previous decades. You can argue what political symbols are right and wrong if you have time to waste, but what is now beyond dispute is that in Britain, we pick and choose what political symbols are regarded as appropriate for football games.
Fifa and Uefa indulge in no such ambiguity.
Delighted at news that we will rest more players tonight. It will have the result of recharging some deflated batteries as well as giving opportunity to players who will benefit from the game.

Depressing news today on the board’s attitude towards the requisitioners.
I had always held out hope that the Board were waiting for developments before they exacted the revenge they were due for the years of cheating and trophy/title stealing from Ibrox.
The only sense I could make of their inaction was that they were biding their time. Either that or they did not wish too close an investigation lest they get dragged into dishonourable territory. And the latter did not sound too convincing- one rectified instance with Juninho as against 80 unrectified instances at Ibrox.
I could not accept the reasoning that Celtic would settle for Old Firm rivalry being resurrected because it was in our interests. How do you compare x number of lost titles and trophies and revenue and European qualification chances, and the sympathy for your lot that would flow from establishing that you had to ply your trade in a league and FA where such things were not just allowed but supported with collusion. The reaction of most European clubs would be to say we need to get Celtic out of such a toxic environment.
Instead we are asked to believe that Dermot Desmond and others believe that our best chance of a move is to keep schtum and hope that the attraction of the resurrected rivalry gets us our desired move?? Who is going to give you strong odds on that? We did have a genuine chance of a move to the Championship during MONs time but that chance passed and it does not look likely to come back anytime soon. Phil Gartside’s dead now and there are few voices left to argue our case.
Then there was the promise of the cross border leagues when Russia and Ukraine were granted permission until civil and cross-border war put an end to that development ever being seen as a success.
So where is the value in keeping an O** F*** model alive. It will only work if Rangers become competitive again and who will give them the money to achieve that level? Believe me, all those who flocked back because they wanted to give Brer Hun a right good tanking will get bored of a few years of regular humpings. Their fans will get bored and then, so will ours. Who is going to want to invite a club which does not have the finance to guarantee a regular second spot in the SPFL despite top loading their spend to give that impression this year? It would be like Barca being dependent on Espanyol or Chelsea on Fulham?
There are plenty of fallen giants- Notts Forest, Villa, Rheims, Torino and Dukla. Eintracht, St. Ettiene, Vasas Budapest, Steau, Red Star, Honved, Wolves, Preston, Leeds and Blackpool. No-one is desperate for them to be at the top table.
Nothing makes sense and the least sense being made is by a Celtic Board that tries to hoodwink and patronise people who are brighter than they are.
Dermot may have made a lot of money. Bankier might have made a little money. But neither of them are particularly bright and the attitudes they displayed at the meeting was not even a clever way of achieving their objectives.
They may well win the money making war – many supporters will stay attending- many will want to beat the huns more than they want justice done but I just feel sad that our club has been so stupid.

As I said I read E-Tims, contacted Auldheid and got an update ahead of yesterday’s conversations on Res 12 on here. I also spoke to BRTH – who was at the Royal with his mum – and he was certainly more relaxed about Res12. That’s all I know other than what you have read.
Celtic got the info from the guys when it was ready which was a few weeks before the AGM, Celtic said at the AGM (as agreed with the guys) that there would be a meeting to discuss. That meeting happened last week (Monday or Thursday?), Auldheid expressed his frustration at Celtic’s caution, but the guys have delivered the additional information that Celtic requested.
So Celtic have this information now (as I understand it), and have a decision to make. BRTH is apparently going to organise another meeting.
So for now I’m keeping my toys in the pram and going to the game.
Someone mentioned the Res12 T-shirts earlier – this came about because the guys were facing some large legal costs which would have been unfair. CQN’ers and others in the Celtic support chipped in to help, I always thought that the PLC should have paid these bills, but that’s another story.

The board told the Res12 boys that they would not be asking the CFCB to investigate, even after UEFA and the SFA invited Celtic to do so.
If that doesn’t spell out they are going to do feck all, some people went to the wrong school me thinks.
