Form vagaries of Malmo for Celtic

793

Celtic will play Malmo in the Champions League play-off round, the third time since 2012 they will face champions from Sweden. The main concern for Ronny Deila is the manner in which Malmo disposed of Salzburg 3-0 on Wednesday night, but there is context to put that into. In the previous round the Swedes only managed a 0-0 at home to Lithuanians Zalgiris Vilnius, before winning 0-1 away.

Those three goals against Salzburg, which arrived inside 45 minutes, will be the subject of a lot of research over the next few days.

In 2013 Celtic struggled to blow away the cobwebs against Elfsborg, recording a 1-0 home win and a 0-0 draw away. A year earlier they beat Helsingborgs 2-0 home and away.

The most encouraging aspect for Ronny will be Malmo’s domestic form. They are current 6th in the Allsvenskan after 18 games and will struggle to qualify for Europe next season. A home game against league leaders Gothenburg on Sunday will be Celtic’s most important reconnaissance exercise.

Oh, and put out the flags, Malmo play on grass!!

It depends what you mean by” progress”

Sometimes wishy washy is not so bad.

Extremes and zealots scare me. Compromise is always good.

No need for anyone to be ashamed on either side. As long as they voted for honourable reasons.

It will happen though. Thatcher’s most significant legacy. That tickles me.

I only have Gdansk and Sligo blood in me. I will feel like a fake Jock in a skirt, giving my daughter away to a Catholic in a Rangers tartan skirt.

Well my many a relative of mine lived in Whinhall, but as a ghuy from Burnfoot, if I made it from one end to Coatdyke, I felt like John Wayne as he emerged from Apache Country.

But certainly from the same School and Parish, Altar Boy an all.

Think I remember you went to St Pats with my cousin. You’re Coatbridge though???

BTW: On the first page of the last Blog, Mort posted a link to CQN 2005 – Think a couple of Gavil Ghuy’s posts were there.

Surely you mean in your opinion…

In my opinion regardless of colour or creed if you played for or supported Rangers you were a Hun.

    Why is that sectarian.

Your definition is more sectarian in my view.

My mates a good Hun but he’s still a Hun and he knows it. Couldn’t care less what religion he is or isn’t for that matter.

I haven’t considered yet whether the new Sevconia are Huns yet as I don’t see them as the same club. But considering it is the same supporters pretending then I suppose they are Huns.

I look at a picture of Huns and see Huns. When you look at a picture of Huns what do you see? How do you determine a him from a non Hun.

  16. WITS: I went to a political debate one time and one of the speakers said that “politics is the art of compromise”. That had a profound effect on me. No matter how strong your own views are on particular issues, you must acknowledge those of an opposite view point. So yeah, wishy washy works sometimes. Other times, you have to remain faithful to your core beliefs.

Cloghercelt posted a link earlier to a BBC debate where Jim Allister of the TUV rejected the idea of a bank holiday in the North to celebrate the 1916 Easter Rising. His views and those of Sammy Wilson (I think) were hardly surprising but the audience reaction was interesting. People in the North seem to be coming around to the idea of ‘agreeing to disagree’

  17. Meant to say…..
