Forrest, Christie and Turnbull

962

James Forrest’s injury in September happened three days before Jeremie Frimpong’s best performance of the season, in the home win against Hibs.  I remember using the MVP acronym for Jeremie at the time.  Team form until that point was patchy: wins with alarming defensive performances and an unmitigated disaster against Ferencvaros.  The team shape was clearly wrong and pushing Jeremie forward in James absence seemed logical.

It was the first of many changes I wanted to see, each followed by a realisation that we were groping around in the darkness, until Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull became the central points of a midfield diamond.  Having (hopefully) fixed the fundamental tactical problem, James return to full training offers Neil Lennon the flexibility he is denied on the right and enhances his option in the middle.

Ryan Christie is well short of his best form in a Celtic shirt but all of those best performances came when he played through the middle.  He can cover for James and offer options on the right while giving the manager a different option when he wants to swap out David Turnbull in the 10 position.

  1. very soft penalty as you would expect . quite incredible amount of red cards and penalties sevco have had in their favour now.

  2. Definitely a penalty and definitely a red.

Been all Rangers, can only see this being a big score for them. Not watching any more.

  3. When we played Aberdeen they got 2 penalties.

Sevco will get 2 today. I down 1 to go.

That’s the way things even themselves out in Scottish football.

That’s as far as we have fallen…

Keep the faith pal….We’ll be fine:))

  5. Looking at the incident when Cosgrove was clean through. The huns centre back lets him go and he misses by a mile. If only Bitton had done the same.

Penalties and red cards are not the reason we are miles behind Sevco. Think we need to look closer to home for the reason.

Agreed. If we won every game between now and the end of the season, and yes that does include the two games against them, I still don’t think it’d be enough.

To be fair, while they’ve never really looked outstanding, they’ve been relentlessly consistent. Today was their toughest game on paper other than the games against us and it doesn’t look good. Games are running out.

  8. Supersutton.

There is no such thing in Scottish football as a definite penalty or red card.

Whether or not the bitton challenge deserved a red card is not the question. The question to be asked is whether a red card would have been shown to a sevco player in identical circumstances.

Sevco haven’t had a decision go against them all season.

Everyone knew this would be the case. Except maybe, the people who run our club.

  9. Looks like The Jolly Bhoys outing to Dubai might come back to bite us on our bahookie.

    Shockaroonie.

    D :)

  10. Sending off changed a decent content at Pitodrie.

Unfortunate but definite penalty and red card. Bit of a procession for the Huns ever since.

The laws of the game are clear. No attempt to play the ball and denies goal scoring opportunity. Unfortunately Bitton was the same.

Now, the interpretation of the laws of the game in Scotland are not always consistent. Well, except they are consistently in favour of one team. So I know what you mean.
