Sky have reported that Celtic have accepted a £5m bid from QPR for Gary Hooper. Gary is in the final year of his contract and has declined to sign a new deal which has been no offer for almost a year now.
It will surprise some, perhaps including the player, that an English Premier League club have not made a move, but QPR have the cash to compete with most in the top flight, so the financial rewards for the player will be comparable.
For Celtic the proposition is simple, if the player is not going to extend his stay beyond this season, and an offer matching valuation is received, it is better they know where they stand as early in the transfer window as possible. We’ll know soon enough if the player wants to move. As we said about Victor, it’s always hard to lose a good one, but I’ve yet to meet someone who would walk away from a deal north of £50k per week, so fair play to Gary, whatever he decides.
Neil Lennon had never hid his admiration for the player but the Celtic strategy is clear enough. If Gary decides to move it’s all about finding the right replacement, they days of slavishly watching players run down their contracts are over.
Have you done your thing for 1254125 yet? The supporters group working with Celtic Charity proposed we get as many as possible signed up to running a 10k, hoping each person can raise £125. We’ve teamed up with The Great Scottish Run on Sunday 6 October and extended the scope a bit, to include those who don’t quite have the legs for 10k.
On Saturday 5 October, The Great Scottish Run also organise supporting events you can enter and raise your £125:
100m Toddler Dask (0-5 yrs)
1.5k Mini Run (5-8 yrs)
2.5k Junior Run (9-15 yrs)
Family Mile (Adults and children from 3 yrs)
If you are particularly fit, you can enter the Half Marathon on the Sunday. It is going to be a great family weekend. If you know a kid who is keen to participate and get involved in 1254125, let them know.
If the legs won’t support you for 10k, you can gingerly make your way along the Family Mile.
To sign up you need to register with The Great Scottish Run first. Register here if you are participating in the 10k or Half Marathon, and here if you are participating in the Saturday events, then register here with Celtic Charity (scroll down the page until you see Great Scottish Run).
Just over 10 weeks to go, get your application in and get every Celtic fan you know with a pair of trainers to sign up. I’m doing the 10k, so will be out running tonight…….

I notice yer wee outburst came after our phone call earlier,so I blame/credit myself.
In the same way that Billy Connolly used to warn his audience that they were likely to be swearing and cursing immediately after his show, and then turn round and say
“Oh! Was that ME?”
You were correct, btw, but you know that….

It was suggested to me that Celtic`s and Elfsborg`s seedings meant that we shouldn`t meet. Can anyone clear this up? Thanks.
JJ
==================================
JJ, I had a look at all that on Wikipedia last week – they laid it out quite well:
The new UEFA CL qualifying meant that we are put in the ‘Round Of Champions’ – all the champions of countries whose co-efficient falls below the top 16 (I think, or thereabouts) actross Europe.
That means that the true champions of small countries (us, Sweden, Moldova, etc) get to battle it out for 5 CL group places.
The downside is that we possible meet a tough ‘small’ country champion like Swden’s Elfsborg.
The upside is that we DO NOT run the risk of playing a 2nd or 3rd place Spanish or German, etc side in final qualifying – the runners-up now battle among themselves for another 5 places.
Soooo… getting past Elfsborg into the last knockout round will mean a draw against another team of Elfsborg quality from our grouping – i.e like last season’s Helsinborgs victory – someone we know we can take with a good performance.
It’s the better of the qualifying options available, I’d say.
Celtic will take a couple of goals each side of the Elfsborg tie…….
Hooper will play…….
Hooper will be cup tied but it won’t matter to his new team…..
Celtic will have their squad finalised before the 3rd round…….
Business as usual…….group stages beckon…
its all about “Managing Change”……..
And CFC are doing a remarkable job….

Hooper is a fine goal scorer but not a great footballer. I am sure we can easily replace him with better. May sound like sour grapes but he is what he is, a middle of the road talent. I hope Lenny has someone more exciting up his sleave.

Can you elaborate, please…and who’s Mr Bruce..?
there’s no chance of hooper playing again for celtic if a deal has already been done.
The new wean has obviously been named after Celtic great, the one and only GEORGE CONNELLY – ‘Celtic’s lost legend’!

Ellboy – I am Neil Lennon, YNWA.
We (NeilLennon) have a poor record in signing goalscorers.
Bangura, Lassad, Miki ,Murphy,Lunjberg,Brozek..
Hooper has been an outstanding success and will be sadly missed and not easily replaced.
Sometimes Ive wondered if the joko fella and his alter ego STD could ever possibly stoop lower than their past ramblings, tonight I need wonder no more. If they are 2 different posters which I seriously doubt, then they really should consider setting up home together, the Deep South with the rest of the good ole boys may be an option.
IF its one individual then seriously you need to seek help.
Good luck to 88 if he does indeed decide to move on, he did us a turn on many an occasion.
Doc
Still toasting here in Turkiye.
I’m all in favour if cashing in on players, maximising transfer revenue etc
However , we have sold two of our best players …one three weeks ago …and we have no adequate replacements
A fantastic way to prepare for CL qualification
Never mind if we don’t qualify then the money men will have trousered £17m ….no hassle
We’ll just be left with the drudgery of the SPL …

We haven’t signed a good striker since Hooper and have wasted fortunes trying to buy on the cheap ….we will need to get lucky …or hope that Watt or Balde come on

I thought you were in favour of Hooper being punted?
notthebus
Yes we do but in the grand scheme of things he should be easy enough to replace.
Having said that, there’s no question he’s been a success and the timing could be better.
Any striker we bring in now would be a huge gamble in comparison to a motivated Hooper.. Would much prefer to keep hold of him for the qualifiers but if his heads not in it?
Hail, hail from the sunny highlands. Things on the rumour front are definitely starting to warm up with a few new names being added to the mix. Here’s the latest version of The List which covers most of them.
As always if any of you know of anyone I might have missed please let me know.
Anyway here you go…

No doubt we’ve signed some duffers but with some decent money to invest I’d hope we could get it right this time.
The new away strip maybe all right for most tim’s around the world. However I love my grandweans too much to buy them that strip they would get murdered down hear in Ipswich.

whits no tae like about this Semi……..braw!
You get some right moaners on here, a couple of weeks ago it was preseason, now where not doing enough to sign players and how bad some signings Lenny has made, it must be murder for lawwell and Lenny trying to get decent players to come to Scotland all we can offer is champions league qualifiers with the chance of getting to the groups it can’t be an easy job convincing guys with no conections to the club to sign. Give the club and team a break am sure they try there hardest. HH
Mouyokolo has been signed in case Wilson goes.
Good old Harry Redknapp. Always willing to spend money his club don’t ultimately have. Good luck to Hooper. Fine striker. Simple to snipe at Celtic without having inside knowledge. I trust PL and NL. Listening to Basement Tapes. Regards to all.
Forrest – Talksport –£5M to Spurs

I thought he was a replacement for Rogne.
The main point is Hooper’s replacement should have been in before pre-season,unless it’s Balde?
Paul67 et al
I should have realised that my choices, James Francis and Charles Edward were longshots, and so it goes. George I of course was a bone fide German, but related to the Stuarts through his mother Sophia who was the grand daughter of James VI (of Scotland), who was of course the son of Mary Queen of Scots. Queen Anne before him was the sister of Mary II, who was joint monarch with her husband William III, and daughter of James II who was of course Charles II brother. George claimed the crown by heredity, (ie through the Stuarts) but the fact is he was only Anne’s closest living Protestant relative. There were 56 others who were closer in 1714, but they were Catholic of course, and barred under the 1701 Act of Settlement. That is the message being sent here, make no mistake. Another pretender!
What does George and Simon have in common?
George Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha in German) more commonly known as George Windsor
