Getting buy-in from senior players

1079

Delighted to see Brendan Rodgers is down to business at Lennoxtown, three weeks before the players return for preseason training. It’s interesting that he arranged an early opportunity to meet Scott Brown over a meal, and that this was made public.

Getting buy-in from senior players was one aspect of the job Ronny Deila allegedly didn’t achieve. The rights and wrongs of this can wait for Ronny’s autobiography, although you may wish to express an outsider’s opinion. All that matters to Brendan is that no one is able to speculate about the same issue on his watch.

There’s not much a manager can do three weeks before training starts than eat dinner with the captain, scout players and watch videos. I expect Brendan to have seen every minute of every Celtic game last season by the time players get back; there is lots to learn. In particular, what went wrong at the back to a team which broke defensive records in each of the previous two campaigns. You may wish to express an outsider’s opinion.

Those in the know warned us that blue collar crime is particularly difficult to prosecute, and so it’s transpired. Only Craig Whyte now faces trial in the Rangers fraud case, which saw remaining charges against Duff and Phelps’ administrators David Whitehouse and Paul Clark dropped at the High Court in Glasgow this morning. It’s far from a satisfactory outcome.

Good to hear the losing Scottish Cup final manager, who was left with some bears in Japanese forest for seven days by his parents, has been found safe and well, even if he has nothing to say for himself.

I have heard some daft stuff in my time. But your latest post takes the biscuit.

I was of course not referring to Muhammad Ali’s death (he was one of my heroes) I was referring to Craig whyte and Scotlands ongoing stitch up.

I am also delighted that Brendan Rodgers is our new manager. I said as much at the time. It doesn’t suit your agenda though.

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that the Celtic board are not going to say or do anything about res 12. That being the case then we have to come to a conclusion about what has been going on. Have the res12 guys been fooled? Did the board use them to sell season tickets?

This is the main story for Celtic fans. The answers will tell us a lot about whether people were duped into buying season tickets.

There are a number of factors at play which have to be taken in the round to move forward.

The idea that we could be duped is risible particularly as it’s been stated before we only represent Celtic shareholders, whose awareness of the situation grows by the day. Dupe us and you dupe them. No CEO would do that and survive.

  11. Just popped on to pay due respect to the people behind Res12!

Yesterday’s court fiasco shows a little of the mountain that we are up against in Scotland and the U.K.

Here was a business which flouted PAYE and NI payments for the best part of a year, which went out of business owing millions of pounds to creditors, owing potentially even more to HMRC d yet no-one is being held to account.

Try doing the Social out of a few bob and you’re likely to spent time at her Majesty’s pleasure!

Like most white collar crime it’s difficult to make charges stick as the laws regarding these issues are both complex and shall we say usually vague enough to allow wriggle room for those skilled I their operations!

DM was a glorified scrap man like his da before he entered the bigotdome. Despite all the lavish praise heaped upon him by the fawning SMSM he was never that successful as many failures showed. He might or might not be a mason but for sure he knows plenty about those he did business with and entertained at the bigotdome and elsewhere. He has his place men still guarding his back and one can only hope Craigybhoy has the tapes to protect himself from being the sacrificial lamb or goat!

We live in a corrupt country, with corrupt institutions. The belief that CFC all by themselves could bring this corruption to an end though appealing is misguided.some would like us to come out all guns blazing but what exactly would that achieve?

We would all feel good about ourselves but unless we decide to go the way of Belfast Celtic, then next season we will still be playing in the Scottish game which will be governed by the same people it is today.

That’s why I think we need to be patient and allow the club time to win over others both in Scotland and abroad.

Let’s face facts the Huns are dead and never coming back! The more the zombies bang. On about being the same club only shouts that fact ever louder! They know that we know, that they know they are dead,

My dad passed away on June 1st 1994, his love for our club was only surpassed by his love of his family and his faith. He was part of generations of our forefathers who bore the real brunt of discrimination and prejudice. He would have loved to have seen their collapse and disintegration.

Compared to the real hardships those people faced, then I think we can wait a few more months for things to happen!

Keep up the great work people and stay safe!

  12. My understanding is Murray is more than happy to be well out of the football limelight.

He seems very glad to have preserved and grown the other bits of his business after it seemed it was all vanishing quickly.

At first It seems Incredible that he still has escaped the wrath of the Rangers support but then when you consider that prior to his tenure they had won just 4 league championships in 24 years playing to crowds of under 10,000. They went on to win 8 of the next 9. He really did give the peepel all they wanted. Eva Peron springs to mind.

But corrupt or not he is glad to be out of it I believe.

I am prepared to give the Resolutioners the benefit of the doubt .

    ……………………….

I could almost hear the collective sigh of relief from the Res12ers.

  14. coolmore mafia on

I heard an anecdote that Murray had said he was the first chairman of the huns who wasn’t a mason. And to be fair, he tried a little bit to stop the bigotry.

Maybe more Fettes College old boys network than a masonic one.

  15. Auldheid I think we are all grasshopper (or we should be. It was a good put down though :))

I think you underestimate the boards contempt for supporters (and minority shareholders). They have done and said nothing about the corruption. I think you and the guys have caused them a real headache and have done brilliantly to get this far. But I am afraid Lawwell and co are stringing you along. Patience is a gift but endless patience I am afraid achieves nothing.

To be honest with you the board has achieved its goal. Season ticket sales have done well, Brendan landed in their lap and I have no doubt the return of racism will be welcomed by some. They don’t need to care what the support think again until next seasons st sales where no doubt we will be told that Celtic will take action on res 12 etc. Job done. Supporters shafted.

I think the serious question that you guys need to ask your self is whether you aren’t just being strung along but whether you are being used by Lawwell and co. I know that sounds horrible but it’s feeling like a possibility.

Croppybhoy what exacltly do we need to wait a few months for? New nazi and racist laws from the SNP? Lawwell banning the GB again? Cause as sure as hell it won’t be Celtic doing or saying anything about the cheating.

If you step back and think about it it’s 4 years since all this unfolded. In those 4 years the only thing we have heard from them is how much they love the Huns and how much money it’s costing us.

    4 years.

    Not a couple of months.

Despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

The most active thing the Celtic board have done is downsize and attack the Celtic supporters.

Just as a footnote I was talking to some chaps last night who are relatively well connected. It seems the board had actually lined up Lenny to return. Negotiations etc had been almost completed. Brendan fell into their lap. Lenny was their target.

The board haven’t learned a thing. They believe in their omnipotence. And to be fair they have got their way so far.

    But at what cost?

  16. NEGANON2

Your (almost) footnote. I heard a similar thing about how the Blessed Martin was appointed. In fact as I was walking to collect luggage at Glasgow Airport on my return from Jerez in 2003, I was overhearing , to be honest intentionally, a conversation that Brian Quinn was having with persons unknown. As they were strolling along BQ was telling his freind that Hiddink was on the verge of joining us when Dermott intervened and said that he could get Martin O’ Neil. BQ was emphasising that it was the best ever intervention DD had made.

  17. Neganon2 I was talking to some VERY well connected people who said Neil was never going to be the new Celtic manager but rather than put it on the blog I kept it to myself – oops!! We are where we are, let’s move forward. I can offer absolutely no proof as to what I have just said, you’ll have to take my word. H H Hebcelt

  18. “Negotiations etc had been almost completed. Brendan fell into their lap. Lenny was their target.”

    False deduction.

Brendan Rodgers did not fall into anyone’s lap. He had to be chased and convinced- by the same people who you felt “targeted” NFL.

If they had targeted Neil, then they would have landed him. And they would have landed him as a cheaper (much) option than Brendan Rodgers. The very thing you have been portraying as their inflexible mindset all along.

Now, I can agree with you that Neil would have been a manager in the running for the post. he may even have been the favourite of someone on the selection committee. But, no way was he “targeted” and, no way did any appointed person “fall into laps”.

You over-stretch your case in order to arrive at an outcome you want to reach and you ignore logic in doing so.

  19. This sunshine in darkest Lanarkshire is a welcome respite from the Roman sunshine. My labours at the gym this morning were very laboured. I have added 4 pounds to my target weight in just a week, but Jezzus it was fun..

I will enjoy today as my girl celebrates her birthday and we have completed the DIY work on her house. Salad , prosecco, cider and relaxing seems to be the right way forward today, almost time for the Derby, always a good wee race.

  20. CLINKO3:17 – Is it too much to expect that whenyou respond, you address the main points of the post? – agree, or, disagree, perhaps offer your own opinion – I assure you, I would be interested.

  23. Hebcelt ah well then. I do know that Lots of bets that it was Lenny were being made in the footballing fraternity. We shall never know.

Jmccrmick I think that DD did intervene again here and we got a better outcome.

SFTB I do not know the inner workings of how Celtic arrived and the decision. I was just relaying a conversation. So no testing of logic required.

It’s interesting that the only thing that people want to discuss is the Lenny thing. It seems that many have simply accepted our place is at the back of the bus.
