Gloriously difficult sincerity

Ruud Gullit is now telling us what a wonder-kid Karamoko Dembele is! The portents on this one are not good. The best thing for Karamoko right now would be to be left alone to develop his talent for three years. Comments from international stars is the last thing the boy needs.

I suspect the unprecedented frenzy which greeted his substitute appearance at Cappielow caught his mentors off guard. The decision to play him was made on football grounds; he’d earned the right to be there so was given the chance. That’s fair enough, you can’t hold a player back, no matter what his age. If he’s not challenged you right inhibiting his development, but the best thing for Karamoko would be a long stretch of anonymity.

I can’t get overexcited at Joey Barton charged with betting on 44 football games against SFA rules during his first few months in Scotland. While the same rule applies in England, Newco don’t play in England, so offenses there have been less prevalent, and therefore the rule is less prominent. A cursory punishment would be appropriate.

The media coverage of Barton this morning gives a fascinating slant on what is already a hoary old story. Joey, we are told, may be able to work his way back into his manger’s plans if he is sufficiently sincere when they meet early next week. Joey, of course, is always sincere.

You’ll seldom encounter people with the most alarming thought processes and in any way doubt their sincerity.

If anything, Joey’s persona could do with a little less frankness. Not for the first time, the Newco management will be measuring the wrong metric when trying to assess Barton.

They’re stuck with him, in all his gloriously difficult sincerity.

Or did Scotland play England in a Rous cup at Hampden? I think that’s where I’m getting confused as I went to that too?

I dont offend easily, and certainly not on CQN… and I know where you are coming from, so no way would I take your comment as a shot, pal. No worries there.

But, I will say, in my view …I fundamentally disagree with you …

unconditional love doesn’t mean accepting or encouraging hurtful behaviour ….you can still love Celtic, but say that what the Board is doing (or not doing) is hurting the fans and/or Celtic itself …. in fact, I would argue that, if someone is in a bad situation, genuinely loves requires action, both for the sake of the other as much as for the self.

The Rous Cup was played at Hampden and Wembley as a kind of replacement for the old Home Nations games. It was only short lived; three or four years, I think.

Ha! Thanks JJ I did attend both games but I think Rugby Park is coming to mind because I also went to a Junior cup final there round about the same time, now I can remember where I was in Hampden for the England one and it wasn’t an experience I wanted to repeat lol

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pelé, began playing for Santos at age 15 and the Brazil national football team at 16.

On 29 June 1958 Pelé became the youngest player to play in a World Cup final at 17 years and 249 days.

He scored two goals in the final as Brazil beat Sweden 5–2.

Don’t wish to come across as an apologist nor a fund raiser for the John James site but disappointed to learn that lack of income is forcing him to give up his blog. He has certainly dished the dirt on the dealings of the G51 club. As Phil is going to concentrate on writing plays for the immediate future there is certainly a gap in the expose market – which ought to be the province of real journalism, not our piss poor SMSM.

Thankfully we still have James Forrest and, of course, CQN to ask the questions which our churnalists (courtesy of Phil) studiously avoid. HH

“An international break is often the best time for fans to reflect on the season so far, and with Celtic making a strong start in the league under Brendan Rodgers, it may not be beyond the realms of possibility to suggest that we can go an entire league campaign unbeaten.

This is the sort of tosh we used to hear coming out of Ibrox about deidco before they were deid, I’ll be shocked (but delighted) if we get to the end of the year unbeaten. Way too many variables, simply put we are not that good.

Re- “Celtic deserved this criticism, now let the kid be”

    ____________________________

“Agree we should let the kid grow into the team .

But if this young lad was on Sevco’s books we would not see this piece.

    Just another hurting Hun sticking

    The knife in.”

I knew Tam Baillie briefly at Uni- no way a hun- and never directly criticised Celtic.

He has been diligent and skilled in getting issues about Young People into the Press, because he knows what his job requires and he does it well.

I may disagree with some of his positions, for example he campaigned against off-licenses, troubled by teenagers gathering around the entrance, playing high pitched annoying sound, which could not be head by over 18s, to deter them. He opposed it on the grounds that it was discriminatory towards Young People.

Similarly, he has campaigned against clubs holding on to player registrations to stop them taking up new opportunities with other clubs and countries. I can see that argument from both sides but, someone charged with being Childrens Commisioner is charged with representing only one set of interests. He did so, on this occasion, without pointing his ire at Celtic.

Whoever the hun was, it was not Tam Baillie, more likely the guys who wrote or edited the piece.

  30. On January 17, 1970 the deid team beat the honest men 3-0 at home, one of the goal scorers was a young debutant called iain mcdonald, the following morning’s mason had as one of the headlines on the front page “a star is born”.

This followed up with a couple of sound victories where he scored once more in one of them and they continued to rave about him.

The next game at Easter Road/ which ended 2-2, the young “star” collapsed with no one near him, cartilage.

This was usually a season ending injury, however, check the year, we’re flying, going for another treble and a possible 2nd EC, while they had failed to qualify from the group stages of the LC, been dumped out of the ECWC losing 1-3 both home and away tae Gornik in the early stages and would be gubbed 3-1 in the SC by the mighty leather belts, Davie Hay’s cracker in the mud and rain. They really need a hero.

It’s a Wednesday night and we’re watching Scotsport, the deid team are at home tae the jambos, hun sub mcdonald comes on for them only 25 days after suffering his injury.

My da, who at 15 had a promising fitba career ended with a similar injury playing badminton, leaps up and goes ballistic at waddell for ruining “that boy’s career” by bringing him back too soon.

The wee mhan was bang on as the “star” only played in total 11 games for them including the 4 I mentioned and eventually moved tae Tannandice 2 years later where a further 2 years on and after only 30 games for the arabs he was forced to retire at 24.

This is an example of pushing a youngster too far too soon and the huns have a history of this. Does anyone recall “future” internationalists bobby hume 17 games in all, willie penman 3 games, billy paul the new wullie Henderson and where are all the bader park conveyor belt starlets now, playing for minor league sides like Brentford etc.

During the years in the wilderness we also had our fair share of potential stars failing to make the grade but that could be put down to poor management especially when Jock moved to the pars and only his return saved the careers of future Lions.

We have also happily unveiled youngsters’ who we beat the big clubs for, Michael McGlinchey, Michael Gardyne, Mark Fotheringham, Paul George to name but a few.

They never fulfilled their promise although in the case of the latter his career was curtailed by one of bader parks future prospects.

As for feruz, he only got a game with the 1st team as it was TB’s testimonial. He was showing “big heid” attributes even then.

Right now I have a lot of faith in Lennoxtown and the coaches there and my view on young Karamoko is that due to the jambos having a history of playing boys and the fact we had a plethora of youngsters away on international duty it was the right time to give him a wee shot against older players.

  31. Happy podium there young yin :-)
