Green/Whyte enablers, racism and Ibrox security

1089

Have you ever seen a ‘Rangers’ director pushed by a journalist on a question he dodged before yesterday?  It’s never happened.  STV’s Peter Smith did something no journalist in the history of Scottish football has done before, pressed a question when the man in charge at Ibrox dodged the initial inquiry.  Smith dismissed the deserved praise that came his way last night by suggesting it’s what a journalist does.  True, but refreshing nonetheless.

I was reminded last night that Green’s examination by the old media has come earlier in his journey to the bottom that Craig Whyte’s did last season.  Whyte was being backed by some, let’s call them enablers, right up until the week before Rangers went into administration.  Unfortunately for Green some in the media, and perhaps a few in the support, were embarrassed by their backing of Whyte last year and will not repeat the mistake.

Apart from the aforementioned Green, I have only ever known one person to use the word “darkie” (I missed 1970s ‘comedians’).  He was born in the first years of the 20th century, too young for the first war and too old to be conscripted for the second.  Well into his 90s, I heard him say “there are a lot of darkies on TV these days”.  He was reprimanded and immediately realised what he had done.  An apology and a period of over-compensation followed.

It falls to SFA president Campbell Ogilvie to ensure that such language has no place in Scottish football.  Disciplinary proceedings should be issued, unless, of course, the SFA view the matter in a different light.  Any future appearance of a Charles Green image on a banner or effigy at Celtic Park, or use of the words ‘Our New Hero’ to describe him, should not be regarded as an endorsement of his views, only his work in football.

Celtic minstrels will write songs about him, I have heard the words “man-love” being used this week.

Will Newco stay active long enough for Craig Whyte’s security over Ibrox, crystallised by yesterday’s ruling that he owes Ticketus circa £17m and therefore had a piece of the action at Rangers after all, to have an effect?  There are so many icebergs around Newco probably not.

It was interesting to hear Manchester United’s endorsement of Newco as a potential English Premier League club being debated on STV.  Now out of Europe, Manchester United were asked if they would play a fundraiser at Ibrox later this month.  I hope Green’s comments on the interview don’t spoil relations.

I was pleased to hear we were drawn at home for the next game but for pity’s sake, sending Motherwell to Tannadice the day before defeats the point. This is a complete failure.

Add this to the fact that Fraser Forster’s biggest fan is making his First Holy Communion when we are at home to St Johnstone on 11 May and you get a taste of the frustration in our house last night.

He realises the importance of his First Communion but thought we could cancel the party afterwards and have an alternative celebration at Celtic Park. We’ll distract him on the day…..

As many of you are already aware, the Celtic Trust have arranged a process whereby, if you live in Scotland, you can easily contact your MSP to back the FAC call for an inquiry into policing at the Gallowgate last month.  You can find the information and template here, go do it.

  1. Morning all. Just been reading back on yesterday’s events, a few things to touch on.

    First of all, miki 67

What an inspiration. I don’t know you but have read with interest (and a sense of pride) all about your fight and I think you’re sense of bravery and positivity is truly amazing! My sister and I do a lot of work for cancer research uk, she used to organise the annual 24 hour relay for life in Aberdeenshire. I was lucky to be on the committee and compere the events for a period of 5 years. It’s people such as yourself who give inspiration and hope to others in the way that you choose to fight! It’s great to hear that you will fight continue to fight on, doctors and medics have been defied before and by the sounds of it if anyone can defy them you can, I sincerely hope you do!

On the Govan mob, well, where to start? Like others, slightly suspicious about the media, SFA etc going for green now. Hopefully it’s the fact that they don’t want to be famed by their own incompetence for the second time within 18 months. Nevertheless it would not surprise if there was more to it than that. I think there’s a good chance Brian Kennedy will be in charge of a zombie tribute act of some sort before next season kicks off, we’ll see.

What is clear is that green has been found out for what he is (actually embarassing that it took so long into his reign to finally get challenged on an answer he gave). The STV interview was pure comedy gold and by the way, did anyone else get the feeling that chuck was half cut? He slurred his words, chewed his lips, became confrontational and stuttered slightly in between responses (I know what you’re thinking, so what? You’ve just described a typical Orc).

The bottom line is that surely there will be enough evidence present to validate that the sale/transfer of assets was illegal and therefore the issuing of a license was a mistake and should be rescinded. Now, we can almost guarantee that the SFA will not have the testicular fortitude to do anything (shock horror) but SURELY if there ever was a time for BDO to enter the stage it’s now! They have the authority to put this right and do what should have been done from the start.

Finally, regarding the bhoys, massive game this weekend, really hope Lenny can motivate the players and get us into the final. It will not be easy by any means but we need to adopt exactly the same attitude and produce the same level of performance as our European games. Get the players to imagine its a champions league qualifier if that helps. I know some of us don’t worry too much about the cup competitions but I for one an desperate for us to win this trophy. I think it’s the only way the players will get the full credit they deserve for what they’ve down this season and I think there’s the matter of putting straight our recent abysmal record at the national stadium. Come on the HOOPS!

    Good morning CQNers.

Without doubt Malcolm Murray knew months ago about the Whyte/Green agreement so we can dismiss the smoke screen “I’m seeking showdown talks” emanating from the Ibrox bunker.

Lennon to contest SFA charge over foul language

CELTIC manager Neil Lennon looks likely to contest his charge from the SFA for use of foul and abusive language in the Parkhead side’s recent 1-1 draw with St Mirren in Paisley.

Lennon was overheard on microphone during the broadcast shouting and allegedly using offensive language in a tirade against Buddies captain Jim Goodwin, following a hard challenge on one of Celtic’s players.

The Northern Irishman faces a tribunal at Hampden on April 18 over the complaint, and still has an outstanding three-match suspended sentence dating back to an incident that took place during the Scottish Cup semi-final clash between Celtic and Hearts at the national stadium last season.

Lennon stands accused of misconduct during the match at St Mirren Park, specifically a “failure to behave in a responsible manner as an occupant of the technical area by repeated use of offensive, insulting and abusive language”.

The Celtic boss also described Bobby Madden’s display during the SPL clash as the “most appalling refereeing performance I have seen for a long, long time”, after a series of dubious major decisions from the official, including a penalty following an incident that led to St Mirren forward Esmael Goncalves being served a notice of complaint for alleged diving.

Lennon said last week that he was unable to talk about the incident involving himself, but vowed to defend his case ‘as vigorously as possible.’

Should the Celtic boss be found guilty, he faces being banned for a minimum of three games due to that suspended sentence from last season.

  8. Has anyone seen the pics of “Pep” and McDowell celebrating last night? There’s more to this than meets the eye. It’s as if they know something we don’t! Nobody can be that happy at scoring against the “other huns”!

You have nailed the essential point. When our club faced the abyss, Celts for Change arose and mobilised the support.

    Other clubs have done similar.

  12. squire danaher on

The Kübler-Ross model, commonly referred to as the “five stages of grief”, is a hypothesis introduced by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross[1] and says that when a person is faced with the reality of impending death or other extreme, awful fate, he or she will experience a series of emotional stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance (in no specific sequence[citation needed]).

Application of this model is interesting in the case of the Zombie support.

I doubt many have moved beyond anger.

  13. Top of the morning to you all from a still, grey, but dry Fife.

Sir David Edward Murray is to issue a statement this morning is he?

    Mmmmm.

Could it be that he wants to admit that he was in cahoots with Craigy boy all along?

No, more likely that he will join in the orchestrated campaign to get Green out and get his old pal Walter back at the helm at Ibrox.

  27. Getting rid of Green would be beneficil to the The Rangers. Green has been like a bull in a china shop, telling everyone he’s a yorkshire man, telling everyone the The Rangers will never play in the SPL while he’s in charge, etc…

What the The Rangers need to do is to actually to start winning friends in the Scottish game. It would be in their best interests to do so and, a more conciliatory tone and a more diplomatic chair would see them gain more support – whether we like it or not.

If I were a sevconian I’d see this as a chance to make a new start, get rid of someone who might actually be hurting their long term goals. I’d guess that the opportunity chuckles has provided in the last days is not one the more senior sevconians will let pass.

The ASA reports only comes out once a month, and it’s all kept under wraps until then. It depends how much long the investigation takes.

I wouldn’t place too much weight on it, as a lot of what they look at is whether people are materially mislead and so on.

I could easily see a report conclusion that states something like “while noting that The Rangers Football Club is a new business, the Authority nevertheless considered that the majority of people associated the new business with the old business and therefore the claims were not misleading”.

If that happens, it’s nothing to do with conspiracies or the establishment. The ASA is pretty removed from UK govt and miles and miles away from the Scottish establishment.
