Green/Whyte enablers, racism and Ibrox security

1089

Have you ever seen a ‘Rangers’ director pushed by a journalist on a question he dodged before yesterday?  It’s never happened.  STV’s Peter Smith did something no journalist in the history of Scottish football has done before, pressed a question when the man in charge at Ibrox dodged the initial inquiry.  Smith dismissed the deserved praise that came his way last night by suggesting it’s what a journalist does.  True, but refreshing nonetheless.

I was reminded last night that Green’s examination by the old media has come earlier in his journey to the bottom that Craig Whyte’s did last season.  Whyte was being backed by some, let’s call them enablers, right up until the week before Rangers went into administration.  Unfortunately for Green some in the media, and perhaps a few in the support, were embarrassed by their backing of Whyte last year and will not repeat the mistake.

Apart from the aforementioned Green, I have only ever known one person to use the word “darkie” (I missed 1970s ‘comedians’).  He was born in the first years of the 20th century, too young for the first war and too old to be conscripted for the second.  Well into his 90s, I heard him say “there are a lot of darkies on TV these days”.  He was reprimanded and immediately realised what he had done.  An apology and a period of over-compensation followed.

It falls to SFA president Campbell Ogilvie to ensure that such language has no place in Scottish football.  Disciplinary proceedings should be issued, unless, of course, the SFA view the matter in a different light.  Any future appearance of a Charles Green image on a banner or effigy at Celtic Park, or use of the words ‘Our New Hero’ to describe him, should not be regarded as an endorsement of his views, only his work in football.

Celtic minstrels will write songs about him, I have heard the words “man-love” being used this week.

Will Newco stay active long enough for Craig Whyte’s security over Ibrox, crystallised by yesterday’s ruling that he owes Ticketus circa £17m and therefore had a piece of the action at Rangers after all, to have an effect?  There are so many icebergs around Newco probably not.

It was interesting to hear Manchester United’s endorsement of Newco as a potential English Premier League club being debated on STV.  Now out of Europe, Manchester United were asked if they would play a fundraiser at Ibrox later this month.  I hope Green’s comments on the interview don’t spoil relations.

I was pleased to hear we were drawn at home for the next game but for pity’s sake, sending Motherwell to Tannadice the day before defeats the point. This is a complete failure.

Add this to the fact that Fraser Forster’s biggest fan is making his First Holy Communion when we are at home to St Johnstone on 11 May and you get a taste of the frustration in our house last night.

He realises the importance of his First Communion but thought we could cancel the party afterwards and have an alternative celebration at Celtic Park. We’ll distract him on the day…..

As many of you are already aware, the Celtic Trust have arranged a process whereby, if you live in Scotland, you can easily contact your MSP to back the FAC call for an inquiry into policing at the Gallowgate last month.  You can find the information and template here, go do it.

Anyone else remember Der Bombers account of what CGs response was, when asked about ‘ra deeds…?’

Sure he said something along the lines of ‘If I want, I can shut this place down….’

Kind of puts the last few days into persepective if Our Hero has any claim…

Somebody’s just dumped £10k of stock at 69p/share and that’s by far the biggest trade in over a month. I doubt we’ll see the SP above 70p after this week.

  4. Then Jackson effortlessly says the in profit Celtic, along with the basket case that is Sevco would love to play in England, they dont get it.

  5. I amazes me how its greens fault , its whytes fault , never sir minty,s fault . Teflon daves name never gets mentioned . Am i missing something here .were rangers not in financial bother before the green n whyte show. Were green n whyte there when the ebt,s etc were introduced . Strange how all thems trouble just started when whyte came on the scene .

Miki – slightly similar story and fondly remember a horse called ManchesterSkyTrain. Student in early/mid 80’s summer, had 70p and no sign of a giro. Really should have bought bread and milk, but deciced on a 5p Yankee in a bookie off Byres Rd instead. Got three winners and bought provisions and a monster cargo for the flatmates!

IMHO Green is using the age old tactic of deflecting attention away from what he doesn’t want people to focus on, namely his links to Whyte. He knows fine well the amount of fuss any racist remark will attract in the press. And a lot of suckers have bought it.

    ======================

I share that view in terms of the fuss created although cannot say for certain that was Green’s motive.

I did read somewhere though that SFA have also questionned Green about the takeover and the answers to that if they become public will become the focus of longer term attention.

  10. Keech says Green is not long for the heights of Govan. You don’t say!

I see a lot of excitement building around another big crisis at Ibrox. If anything this last year or so has taught me is that, Rangers, old or new are impervious to any laws of the land that the rest of society are subject to. Whether it be football authorities, police or judges they have and always will be a special case. “Social unrest” was the term used, and over the last year I have realised that the threat of this gets them out of any jam they may find themselves in. Whether there are genuine fears or it is a smokescreen for favourable treatment is anyone’s guess. I personally think it is a combination of both.

Alex Thomson, the Channel 4 journalist’s interest in this whole saga should give everyone an insight into how Scottish society panders to this so called “institution”. He stumbled upon it by chance, and within a couple of months, could not believe how parochial, corrupt and murky our game and it’s coverage by the MSM was. A complete neutral, with no previous interest in our game or probably country for that matter, was completely immersed in this unfolding scandal. Like everyone he could see the financial skulduggery and carnage of the old and new regimes at Ibrox. For him, like the great majority of us thought, it was an open and shut case. Over the next few weeks and months he reported on events in an increasingly bewlidered state as one by one, crimes/rule breaches that should have followed a natural course of justice – didn’t. He was unable to understand how Campbell Ogilvie remained in position, why the SPL,SFA were trying to shoehorn the new club back into the top division, shedding all their debt and shafting creditiors. He experienced first hand the threats and intimidation as he tried to uncover the truth and report it, whilst the rest of the MSM ignored or spinned like a top. By the end of it all he was sat on a couch on Scotland Tonight after another inexplicable decision that day by LNS, looking exasperated. All he could muster was that if he had to explain all the previous events of that year to a Martian he would simply describe our country as a “Banana Republic”.

Tellingly sitting opposite to him that night was a guy called Chris Graham. This was a guy who ran a site called ” Enemies of Rangers” which caused my mate’s boozer no end of bother. The guy had been discredited at every turn with his blogs and views, yet here he was(and now is – regularly) being rolled out in front of our eyes on our country’s flagship news programme. Giving this guy such a platform, and furthermore (by his increasing appearances) credibility should tell everyone all they need to know about how this country panders to the “Orange” pound.

My advice to fans now wanting to see justice unfold regarding the latest revelations, is – forget it. If there is a way to get them off the hook or lessen the sanctions, it will be done. I already see the Police getting involved and going after Whyte. Both sales from Murray to Whyte and then to Green seem to be fraudulent. Hopefully we will see justice, but remember this “social unrest” get out is very powerful and can cover a multitude of sins.

as much as I am enjoying the rangers/rangers/sevco5088/sevco Scotland debacle, I do fear that there is an element of truth on henriks post from tsfm.

The points made on here only seem to be accepted as mainstream fact once the DR/Sun says so.

it raises the point again about how best to manage the MSM should we boycott them all completely and risk our views being sidelined/ignored or try to participate and get our points across to the “man in the street” as it were

  16. auldhead I have very little confidence in the SFA,

Jim Tim, Teflon Dave is a very good name for him, if as Phil Mac hinted about certain tapes, we don’t have to wonder too hard what the polis were looking for when they raided Craigy’s gaffs yesterday.

Auldheid – there is no way Whyte will be the patsy. He’ll take the whole lot down with him first.

  24. Keech Jackson fears for their SFA licence as the original agreement was that Green had nothing to do with Whyte.

He also admitted that DR will have nothing to do with Whyte and the “propaganda he is pedalling”.

So the major Scottish paper will not listen to any evidence he may have on the takeover of Sevco???

  25. Keech Jackson, Sports Journalist of the Year, broke the story of the MBB did he not??

Craigy may be an unscrupulous con man – but he consistently demonstrates that he is not stupid and seems to be at last one step ahead of everyone else. I would suggest that he probably knows more about insolvency law – and how to exploit it – than the whole of CQN combined.

It will be a pity in some ways when he gets the jail – let’s just hope that he doesn’t meet with any unfortunate “accidents” in the meantime.
