Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

  1. Btw…is it a different Celtic that you see coz ye pay in compared to the one that I watch on my brothers Celtic TV?

Of course it is. As you are as influenced by the DR as you seem to be, then it is fair to assume that the less than pro-Celtic commentaries influence you as well.

deadlines are deadlines, say for instance you gave a room full of students a project to complete, gave them dates and times with plenty of prior warning off when it was due in..

all of the class bar one hand in the work at the correct time, one comes in a day late, should he/she be given the same mark as the rest..?

Presumably about 15m… That’s why PL is happy to see us go out of CL rather than invest all that money 8 weeks ago… Makes financial sense, eh ?

If they had signed the players six weeks ago-when we needed them,btw-yesterday’s cock-up would not have happened.

Celtic should have called Rangers bluff and bid – £500k for the best LB in the country(IMHO)

Lee Wallace. Do you think the huns would have refused to sell him to us?

I think the big fella is a damn guid yin.

  6. Ok, let’s have a tiny bit of positivity now…

We’ve signed a striker that looked like he wasn’t going to sign yesterday morning. Let’s get behind him and hope he bangs in goals.

But most importantly, what number will he wear on the back of his shirt, and will he have a poppy on the front of his shirt come November?

  7. At the closing of the window last night on SSN they said that some deals had not been finalised but an extention application to the FA had been sought and work would continue………..Do Celtic/Man City get the option?

    Surprisingly good window.

Jeezo. There seems to be more posts greeting about the negativity of the blog than there is negative posts. This blog is fine IMO, a vast array of opinion and most with Celtic at heart. I suggest addressing a post or scrolling on by if you don’t like what you read.

For what it’s worth I believe that in the absence of Brown, our midfield is very weak and with Kris’s form dipping, we lack creativity. Here’s hoping our wingers can make some chances because for all Tony’s faults, he (or LG or the new guy) can hardly knock them in with nobody setting him up.

Celtic finally sign Serbian striker Stefan Scepovic on deadline day & still hope to add Man City’s John Guidetti

02 September 2014 07:37 AM By Michael Gannon

SCEPOVIC completed his £2.7m move to Parkhead from Sporting Gijon last night – and the Bhoys are set to appeal to UEFA over the loan signing of Guidetti which over-ran the 11pm deadline.

Stefan Scepovic, left, and John Guidetti

CELTIC completed a deadline-day swoop for Stefan Scepovic last night but failed to rush through a deal for John Guidetti.

The Hoops finally landed Serbian striker Scepovic on a four-year contract for a fee of around £2.7million after the Sporting Gijon hitman performed another U-turn.

Boss Ronny Deila looked set to make it a double deal as Manchester City forward Guidetti pitched up at Parkhead for talks late last night.

A one-year loan switch was agreed and the papers were filed to the SFA right on the 11pm deadline – but it was too late to be rubber-stamped.

Celtic still hope they can land the Swede but need to appeal to UEFA today and prove there were mitigating circumstances which forced the deal to be processed after the deadline.

Scepovic had looked set for a switch to La Liga rivals Getafe despite passing a Celtic medical at the weekend and submitting forms for a work permit.

But the 24-year-old could not agree a deal with the Spaniards and the move collapsed yesterday, allowing Celtic to swoop.

The former Partizan Belgrade attacker had earlier enraged Hoops chief Peter Lawwell after backing out of the move.

But after it became clear Geatafe were not prepared to stump up the £2.7m fee – or meet the player’s wage demands – Celtic moved back in for him.

Deila had hoped to have Guidetti on board as well as the Swedish star looks to get his career back on track after two frustrating years of injury and illness.

The 22-year-old failed to break into the City side following a career-threatening illness in 2012.

The Swede was tipped for the top when signed by Sven-Goran Eriksson in 2008 and lit up the Dutch league during a loan spell at Feyenoord in 2011-12.

He blasted 20 goals in 23 games before being struck down by serious food poisoning which left him paralysed in one leg. He battled back to fitness but could not force his way into the City side and went on loan to Stoke last term.

The Sweden cap only made six appearances and had a bust-up with boss Mark Hughes.

Ajax and Feyenoord both made noises about the hitman in the summer while Southampton registered their interest last month.

Fiorentina were poised with a £2.5m bid but Celtic boss Ronny Deila’s close links with City helped sealed the deal.

Guidetti will become Celtic’s fifth loan signing of the summer – along with Jason Denayer, Jo Inge Berget, Aleksandar Tonev and Wakaso Mubarak.

Craig Gordon arrived on a free so Scepovic is the only cash signing – despite the club making almost £12m from selling Fraser Forster and Tony Watt.

Deila also sent Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde out on loan to Danish side Brondby and Belgium outfit Waasland-Beveren.

Holmbert Fridjonsson joined Pukki at Brondby for the season while Dylan McGeouch was loaned to Hibs and fellow midfielder Jackson Irvine joined Ross County on a year’s deal.

And Celtic received a boost last night when Europa League rivals Red Bull Salzburg sold midfielder Sadio Mane – who scored 17 goals last season – to Southampton for £10m.

David Templeton anyone ? or is the paranoia ripping right out of me :)

  17. So why do Football clubs the length and breadth of the country leave it until the last day of the transfer window to do business , not just our club . They cant all be incompetent surely.

  19. Woken by a barrage of texts. Buggers, I could have done with an extra hours kip. Anyways got up to investigate and I’m still no wiser. Text 1 Was Guidetti only wanted cos the Serb wouldn’t come. Serb comes, suits Celtic to delay Guidetti paperwork. Texts 2 & 3 Were we Brysoned. Text 4 Are the powers to be at Celtic Park, incompetent F***ers.

Investigation to date, Was it Man City who messed up. Are we appealing to UEFA, Will Man City release our man and let us sign him on a Bosman. Heard all the news about various lads going on loans but nowt on Official site. Overall Decision, Put on some toast and have a cup of tea and let the CQN experts decide & accept their decision.

Well, the Celtic ‘support’ who pay these charlatans – very handsomely will, sooner or later have to make a decision.

Do we keep this mis-managemet of ‘our’ club going or, will we grow a pair and pounce on the ‘bored’ at next SB-renewal time and tell them…

“We don’t BELIEVE Rangers absence costs us £10 mill per year!”

Because it doesn’t suit the board, PL and anti management agenda of some.

PS : My pleasure last night was tempered by anti NFL posts about NFL ( Media Whore” et al ). Unbelievable on a Celtic site, and what chance has RD got with the same people if that is the way we treat a living legend.

  26. Gary67/ CultsBhoy: Just found this on wikipedia about left backs at Celtic, so your theory may be right!

Having progressed through Celtic’s youth system, Mulgrew turned professional in July 2002. Originally playing at centre back, he was soon encouraged to switch to left back due to the shortage of left backs at the club.

  27. Well it’s a good job we’re one of the best run clubs in Europe otherwise we might not have managed to complete any signings at all.

    Hats off to Peter Lawwell!
