Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

  1. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma on

    Good Morning,

I will wait and see what transpires about the signing of Giudetti today.

There are reports saying that the problem has arisen because of paperwork originating at the Manchester City end, while others suggest that although the paperwork arrived timeously The SFA “Couldn’t” process it in time — whatever that means.

An appeal to UEFA would appear to allow additional time for the completion of the formal paperwork AFTER a deal has in fact been reached within time.

I am not prepared to simply accept the word of some ill informed journalists at midnight because the various stories are so different, so far apart in terms of the tale they tell that it suggests that there is massive speculation on their part.

There are no attributable quotes from the SFA or Celtic other than ones which say that they are hopeful of the matter being completed this morning.

Far too many people are prepared to hang people when the facts are not in full circulation.

That transfers should have been done earlier ( if they were possible ) is not in dispute but that is a completely different argument.

  2. “A one-year loan switch was agreed and the papers were filed to the SFA right on the 11pm deadline – but it was too late to be rubber-stamped.

Celtic still hope they can land the Swede but need to appeal to UEFA today and prove there were mitigating circumstances which forced the deal to be processed after the deadline.”

The helpful hand of the SFA at work.

Is John Guidetti that Mafia guy from Noo Yoik?

I think Guidetti was a contingency for Scepovic failinG, but would be good to get him also.

  6. To all the folk complaining about it taking til the last minute….

It’s not all down to the club. For example, the player may be holding on to the last minute so he is in a good bargaining position. If a club NEEDS you and only have an hour to agree terms you are likely to get better terms.

Secondly there are the domino effect of transfers. Man United have had Chicharito in the shop window all summer but didn’t get rid of him and Welbeck until signing another striker.

So why did Falcao come so late? Well Monaco wanted to sell him outright but Real Madrid opted to turn it down due to worries about injuries. He was then papped about the top teams and Monaco had to accept that they won’t get the big money til next year because FFP preventing united paying another 60m.

Also, a lot of teams may have been chasing another target and have to give up on him and sign somebody else.

Then you have players like Pukki who will have started the summer with a chance of being first choice. It didn’t go so well so he would rather play elsewhere.

Football is a crazy business. I just hope Guidetti goes through…

  8. I took my wife to the game this time last week. I have been going on a fairly regular basis for 44 years but it was her fist visit. She loved the city (thanks to some good tips from ghuys on here) and was very impressed by the stadium, despite the fact that as an ex-Spanish teacher she had been to the Nou Camp on numerous occasions. The biggest shock and disappointment for her, even worse than the result, was the attitude of some of the supporters inside the stadium during the match. She could not believe their negativity and the foul language directed at the Celtic players. I felt embarrassed because I have tortured her over the last 25 years of marriage by, as she puts it, wasting family money, on Celtic. Now she feels she has all the proof she needs and she has vowed to never go to a game again. Maybe I should follow the R^^^^^^ or maybe their supporters are just like ours.

On a different note, I see that Pastor James McConnell has resigned. I could not see why there was all of a sudden such a huge outcry about his remarks concerning Islam. That is exactly what he and his like have been saying about Catholicism, or Roman Catholicism as they prefer, for years (we currently live in Magherafelt and we have a few rednecks running about). “Islam is heathen, Islam is satanic, Islam is a doctrine spawned in hell,” he said. Just substitute Islam with RC. Maybe now that he has resigned there will be a new understanding of other faiths…………then again , maybe not,

    ####

You’re right it is a different argument.

In that the responsibility for it can only lie with Celtic, no one else.

The consequence of that failure is that you are then relying on others not to make administrative mistakes.

It’s not as if we haven’t benefited from administrative mistakes and oversights so we should have had no illusions that they do occur and the seriousness of the consequences when they do occur. Just ask Legia.

Indeed if reports are correct we only got Scepovic because of such an oversight by Getafe.

I don’t expect the board to be profligate, nor do I expect a serious point to be met with a frivolous reply.

I’m not. Many others feel the same way.

If Guidetti completes a deal today then Delia and Collins will have the best squad in Scotland packed full of international standard players, only car crash football management will see us not win anything

  15. Well we just have to wait and see,I am sure the club will issue a statement regarding the Guidetti situation today.Wont they?

  16. the glorious balance sheet on

I think the reason why this Guidetti deal could only be done on the last day was because Guidetti was waiting to see whether he would make Man City`s squad of 25, and if not, would he be released on a free.

If released on a free, he would have been aware he could have had his pick of a few clubs and decide at his leisure where to go.

I don`t think that there is any set of circumstances that would have allowed Celtic to sign Guidetti any earlier in he window. I think that we should have signed an alternative striker earlier in the window and before the CL qualifiers but as I say if we were really set on Guidetti there was no way that deal could have kicked off until late in the window for reasons outside of Celtic`s control.

I`ll wait and see what the reasons where for the signing not going through in time before I go into rant mode!

Yes a lot of clubs leave their transfer business to the last day. However we find ourselves having the most important games of our season before transfer deadline day.

Presumably those cheerleading the deadline business would not have been happy had Celtic made the one signing we made yesterday in the days before Legia?

It would certainly be ironic if the error re Guidetti was down to Celtic given our good fortune with Legia.

Does he head the ball well?

The way he conducted himself yesterday annoyed me a bit.

  21. Bhoys, I think I know what happened.

Peter Lawell, Celtic CEO sent the papers to Peter Lawell SFA board member and he done a Farry with the papers just so his namesake didn’t have to pay Guidetti’s wages.

Sack him from one of those positions. We MUST have JUSTICE! ;)

agree with your point. However, given the fact Guidetti was at Celtic Park last night shows he must be interested in signing for us, which I am taking as a good sign.

Hopefully we are in pole position to get him now (fingers crossed)

    _____________________________________________________

So, does all of the above mean that – Izzy is good enough for Celtic?

A cynical eye would say that Izzy is one of Celtic’s weakest links. imho

    =====================================

Izzy IMHO was our POTY last year, 100% every time he pulls on the shirt.

The guy needs players to cover for him and give him a chance to get some recovery time during a match.

It’s just no possible to be bombing up and down the line for 90 mins……….but to be fair to him……………. he tries to do just that.

The guy has also played constantly since we signed him (apart from his injury break).

  26. The Serbian striker may or may not be the bees knees but I for one do not hold it against him that he played hardball …

Let’s face it if Lawwell could have got Guidetti in on loan he would have dropped Scepovic like a hot tottie.. As it appears despite the PR rhetoric that there was really only an intention to buy one striker.

I hope the lad scores a barrow load!

  28. I think everybody knows it would be ideal for it to happen at the start of summer. Unfortunately we don’t have the money to just throw at clubs. e are well down the foodchain and are picking up scraps.

Our squad was still better paid than Legia and Maribor. These teams we play in the qualifying round are pretty rubbish and its only through our incompetence that we do not qualify. I include the players and coach as well.

As for all the fans complaining on here about the board day after day. We cannot get decent attendances anymore because our own fans would rather stay home and watch Sky. That’s after the board significantly lowered prices and have made efforts to improve the overall experience with the new bar, potential standing area and fan parks etc.

The fact is that many so called Celtic men would rather stay home and watch Sky TV. That broadcaster that has meant we are skint compared to 20+ English teams.

There is plenty of blame to go around.
