Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

  1. Mornin,

Well not had much sleep. Working till midnight then checking for updates till 1.Thought thats enough get to bed it will be announced in the morning.Checked about 5 this morning when got up for the loo still nothing(i know it’s sad but wanted to know if Guidetti had signed)Was very pleased when thought we had signed both and got rid of rest now just thinking what’s going on?!

For Paul67 to announce on here and every where else reporting it I assumed a done deal but obviously something is going on. The fact that nothing from Celtic either way is hopefully a good thing. Fingers crossed!

    Again.

Have we asked the Legia owner for any comment re our chances of signing Guidetti after the deadline?

    If no, why not?

  4. Been searching all over the Swedish media this morning but found exactly the same as been reported in Scotland. The Guidetti camp are saying nothing.

TV4 Sport have made a complete fool of themselves, when they thought the Guidetti deal was done they stepped in and bought the tv rights for the SPL. I kid you not.

The Swedish viewers are having a field day with them and the SPL.

Looking forward to see how this latest soap opera transpires.

Legia paperwork, Effe being left in Glasgow for the Maribor game,Mubaraks permit, the invisible man Tonev, Scepovic drama and now Guidetti. Never a dull moment.

Not if we don;t want to. Lot of decent free agents out there.

International break allows us to get some in on trial.

  6. Forgot _Brehme .

Zanetti wore Number 4 for Inter but played right back ,left back ,centre back, right midfield ,left midfield and both wings -all in the space of 90 minutes . Remember a documentary re him — he said he weighed @ 35 kilos in his mid teens.

I cancelled my Sky last week. When I told him the reason, Celtic games being shown on BT, home games being shown at early K.O’s. ect ect. He made no attempt to change my mind. I think he has heard it all before

All you have to do is follow the link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpmTc6Qy4oU and click ‘like’ – you don’t even have to watch it !

Closing date is 30th September so please vote before then .

  9. Sorry,

had to do something so up came the Guidetti plan. When the Scepovic deal came back on,he nearly had a heart attack.TWO strikers, whoever heard of such a thing. The delay in the paperwork looking like a west end farce, everything moving at a snails pace.”Good Lord is that the time, tsk tsk, just when we were nearly there.Lisen John, leave your number and we will definitely get in touch.

PL wiping the sweat from his brow and telling a lackey to fetch him a large Brandy,as Guidetti headed back to Manchester.

Only if I was suspicious of course.

Kev Jungle. Izzy is poor and has been for some time his defensive skills are poor his tracking back is slow he is not the player he was when he joined us.We should have competition for every position in the team as it keeps players on there toes and left back is no different.H.H.

  11. Izzy is a good player, very effective going forward but he is not a top class defender. He does for me at Celtic but we need cover for him. Mulgrew seems the most obvious solution and if my memory is correct, Matthews was switched to left back a few times. Which brings me to right back options, does anybody know what the story is re Darnel Fisher. He really looked good last year when he got an extended run on the team. I expected he might kick on this year and make the position his own, releasing Lustig for central defence but he hasn’t featured at all, not even in pre-season.

I’m a fan of Izzy, even while recognising his limitations. For me,the best left-back I’ve seen in THE HOOPS since Tommy Gemmell.

And I reckon Tam might agree with me,btw.

But we really need to protect him.

On the pitch, that means a left-sided midfielder or centre-back able and willing to cover his runs forward.

Off the pitch,it means recognising the playing and travelling time involved in his international career. And resting him accordingly.

One other thing which may be playing on his mind is the current upheaval in his homeland. People are being murdered over there on a wholesale basis. Not that it’s highlighted that much.

It’s a tough one for me. My sister works for Sky.

I can get a friends and family deal and save a fortune. She gets the whole package as part of her salary.

I choose not to take it. My sister works fairly hard for Sky and is doing well. She only works PT due to my neice being at primary school. I wish my sister well but not Sky. It’s a horrible organisation but they do treat their staff well.

I don;t have Sky. I have VirginMedia. I like the product. The service however is horrific. Sky make a point of holding onto their customers and I am surprised they didn;t give you a half price deal to stay switched on Sky Sports. I suspect that yer man on the phone was either a Sevco supporter or they had reached their half price quota for the day.

It really depends on your principles. I can also appreciate people who can;t go to see Celtic and want to watch our games. It’s a real catch 22. Look into an Android box.

  14. What a shame if Guidetti isn’t coming. Could be lots of reasons, mind. The player having second thoughts, his agent having second thoughts, Celtic deciding to “go-slow” once they realised the Serb was in the door… The SFA accidentally losing the fax from CP…

Maybe even Man City having second thoughts after selling Negredo?

It will all come out in the wash.

  15. Dermot Desmond, neeeds to sell his shares ,but who would buy them. his time is up.we have to get a home based supporter ,to take over ,but who. any names bhoys as who could buy his shares,

  16. What on earth has happened with Guidetti?

Has the club made any statement? There are many possible scenarios here, from cock up by any of the parties involved to a late change of mind. Perhaps he was plan b and we decided not to go ahead when plan a was back on? That’s just speculation though.

Bhoys we wanted a striker and we got a striker I know we would have liked to see another couple of faces but it wasnt to be. H.H.

I noted yesterday the Twardzic brothers were off to the German 3rd Division but no sign of it anywhere it would be good to get the definitive list of ins and out of the window.H.H.

  20. Not everybody’s cup of tea but there weren’t many better left backs than Ashley Cole a few years ago.

C Ronaldo never did much against him.

  21. KevJungle

Izzy is not the old fashioned full-back ,he is an offensive wing-back. He is more of an attacker than defender. Marauding down the wing and crossing is what the manager asks him to do. And he is very good at that.

Also he does not give the ball away very much ,in fact his pass completion must be very high. Keeping possession is one of his strong points.

Defensive postioning and awareness are his weakness. Sometimes concentration seems to go. But overall he’s one of the best left wing-backs Celtic has had.

    I have VIRGINMEDIA too.

Two weeks ago I phoned them to upgrade. Sky sports on £150 season ticket and mobile for £8.

My current bill is £68 per month.

The service I got from a Scottish guy called Billy was appalling.

Knocked both requests back and told me that my new bill would be £105!

I should have asked for e-mail confirmation, but the call was recorded anyway.

Got a free month when I phoned to complain, but I’ve still told them I’m cancelling the minute the contract is up.

I reckon my TIMMY name must have had a deleterious affect on his usually excellent customer skills.

I read that one was released and we kept the other. not sure how accurate that is the CFC website tends to be quite slow in updating info.

  24. Now we have seen July and August by and our new manager has had 10 competitive games to say i am underwhelmed with how the team is performing is an understatement, i have been saying on here it is a nonsense to consider emptying a manager at this stage in a season, i have to say on Sunday i did give the matter some consideration due to the ineptitude of how our team was set up, and performed, we now have some additions from the end of the transfer window and a squad in my value judgement which is miles ahead of any of its counterparts in the league, no more footballing revolution, and no more embarrassing spectacles in front of the support before games
