Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

Dermot Desmond, neeeds to sell his shares ,but who would buy them. his time is up.we have to get a home based supporter ,to take over ,but who. any names bhoys as who could buy his shares,

How much would his shares be worth if….the fans / ‘supporters’ grew a pair and stood outside the stadium on SB-renewal deadline day and let themselves be seen by the media, SSN, all over the world…announcing – “NO SB’s will be purchased till DD and his PLC configuration are – GONE!”

The ‘ONLY’ way to get rid of DD is to – take him on.

A fans co-operative would seem to me – off the top of my head – to be the way to go.

Pool all the resources and have someone who would fight tooth and nail for the club and it’s fans / ‘supporters’. imho

I would be 1st in the que to by a SB if – Dr Jeanette Findlay was a controlling figure in ‘our’ club.

    Hopefully that’s of help.

Bye, this time stuff to do.

  2. My Information on Guidetti for what its worth.

Man City held up sending the correct paperwork to Celtic although agreement had been reached between the clubs the player and the agent. Celtic asked for an extension which was granted. The paperwork eventually arrived from City but at a very very late stage. This was submitted just after the hours extension had expired.

Confidence is still high that UEFA will approve the move.

  3. Izzy is very good at getting forward, and getting into a final position to either cut the ball back or to make a cross.

    he does this well.

however, when was the last time an Izzy cross was converted to a goal ?

and when was the last time he cut a ball back and a shot on goal happened ?

  4. Went to bed last night happy.

    Not so happy now.

Hope the guidetti signing works out, he is a good player….get him fit, he will bang the goals in.

    Fingers crossed

That’s good to hear – thought it would’ve been City’s end!

Come on UEFA, just another little favour….. ;)

Well, any headlines about Ally being absolutely delighted to be perfectly honest that he kept all his top stars?

When was the last time he crossed and there was someone in the box attacking the ball?

He had a few doubles but his sticker album is nearly full…

He is guilty of crossing the ball into the box, when, as you say, there is noone to cross it too.

    So why cross it?

    Saint Stivs 10:05 on 2 September, 2014

Izzy and Ambrose both need a few weeks off. They’ve had no rest over the summer and are both making simple mistakes, which is down to fatigue.

  11. Re Izzy’s crossing.

I’ve said this many times before. It’s easy to dink / float a cross into the box and be accurate. But it’s also easy to defend (except when Larsson, Sutton and Hartson were around).

Delivering a cross with pace and in a place which makes it difficult for defenders is an entirely different skill. With a low % completion.

On Izzy, I’ve seen him deliver some exquisite crosses – but with no takers. And I’ve seen him hit some duffers. He’s not perfect, but then who is?

I watched Valencia for ManU last weekend. A player who were are told “delivers a dangerous ball”. Now, I’ve seen him get an inch and smack the ball in between defenders and keepers for the ManU forwards to score from. However, on the weekend I’d reckon 90% of his attempted crosses hit the defender (full back). 8% went sailing over to the other side of the pitch or out of play behind the goal. And only 2% could be considered “a dangerous ball” – which no one scored from (0-0 against Burnley).

Is there any player who consistently delivers “a good cross”? None since Beckham IMO.

And on our other side, Matthews, Ambrose and to a lesser extent Lustig, are just as bad as Izzy. But Izzy is in that position more often.

In terms of defending, it’s impossible for him to be crossing balls into the box one minute and then to be covering the right winger as the opposition “break away”. The fault lies in the system which does not cope with this situation.

  12. BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

I wrote an email for the attention of Richard Branson regarding the quality of the phone service. The product is excellent especially the Tivo box.

Never received any reply on it from anyone at Virgin. They really need to up their customer service because they have a great product.

  13. This paragraph from STV

Though Guidetti could be released by Manchester City at any point during his contract, he would have to have been freed before the transfer deadline in order to sign for any club as a free agent before the next transfer window opens on January 1.

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Stienreignedsupreme. I would agree both need a break away from football for a couple of weeks at least. H.H.

Spot on. Leaving space behind when he goes forward is a team problem as much as anything. The left CB has to move across, the RB has to get into the middle and the DM has to drop back. Do we do these type of drills in training?

  16. ah,

the old “hit and hope” % game.

i would have got slaughtered for just corssing the ball,

its looked nice son, what a cross that wus, but your too fast for the rest of them to catch up on you so ………………

gonny just pick a guy thats running in, ad cut it back to him …………

  17. maybe the new guys will be able t get on the end of eitherscrosses, and it all changes.

    i live i hope.

  18. Izzy and Ambrose are good players in poor form.

I honestly think dropping them would be good for them. Give them a bit of rest.

Are the both away playing for their national sides? If so, then they should be rested before the Aberdeen game.

We need them right for Salzburg away on the Thursday.

  19. Regards Guidetti from what I have read here seems to be an administration matter

As we all know from recent happenings rules are rules and as previous,Celtic should be keen to abide by same.

I agree but if a left back has taken a ball and got upfield then surely you would expect a forward to be in the box.

  21. Celtic and St Johnstone have fallen foul of the same issue from UEFA that caught out Dundalk a few weeks ago ie flying the Palestinian Flag.

“Celtic were reported when it was seen at Murrayfield during the game against KR Reykjavik, while Saints were rapped after a fan flew the flag at McDiarmid Park when they faced Spartak Trnava.”

Why did it happen now ?

Our game at Murrayfield was 5 weeks ago !!

Did someone bring our Icelandic flag display to the attention of UEFA ?

I wonder who would have done that ????

We should fight this all the way.

  22. Ok, So we have loaned out Balde, Pukki, Dylan, The Fridge & Irvine and released Atajic. Sold Forster & Watt & let Sammi go when contract expired. That is 9 in all gone from squad. We have signed Gordon on a free, bought the Serb and have borrowed, Berget, Denayer, Tonev & Mubarak that is 6 in. The Guidetti loan is still a possibility. Am I leaving anyone out.

  25. Has the ban on Palestinian flags put UEFA personnel at increased risk of being targeted by Islamic extremists?

    I do hope not.

They have a hard enough job as it is.

  26. Good to see duds pukki and Balde gone Both players should never have been at Celtic park

Good to see a goalscorer arrive

    But why oh why now

Why not a month ago when we had chance at CL. Someone said it would have cost more, but 20m reasons for doing it early

Ps is derk that bad he has been forgotten about
