Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

  1. EPL total spend

    2010-2011 590 million

    2011-2012 545 million

    2012-2013 610 million

    2013-2014 760 million

    2014-2015 835 million

Very happy to say not a sky ports subscriber, obscene amounts of being spent, all those subscriptions not benefitting football in this country whatsoever greedy players and their agents pocketing the majority of it

  2. Things were weird enough on the blog yesterday, it felt like everyone was having a breakdown, and there was so much passive aggression towards Celtic it was like watching a couple just before the separation or maybe like reading a thread on mumsnet during the world cup… however, today, there’s a discussion about whether Brown is a good player or not.

Yesterday there were people on posting ‘new squads’ and completely omitting Mulgrew and Forrest. They will be first picks for RD and would be for any manager.

If yesterdays petulance is anything to go by the average Celtic fan has become a bit of a spoilt brat.

Not a great window, not likely to be. We know nothing about any of the players signed, nothing useful. Each and every player in our squad has an exceptional quality and at least one shortcoming that stops them getting to the next level (Brown is probably the only execption). That’s our level. Commons illustrates this most thoroughly, cos he’s a great we goalscorer from deep, but has no pace and no first touch.

We need to get on board with this situation or forget our allegiances. If you want to watch EPL millionaires there’s nothing stopping you.

  3. I am repeating my question from earlier ….

“Celtic were reported when it was seen at Murrayfield during the game against KR Reykjavik, while Saints were rapped after a fan flew the flag at McDiarmid Park when they faced Spartak Trnava.”

Our game against Reykyavik was 22nd July , we did not get a reprimand therefore I assume at the time nobody was bothered or noticed.

However Dundalk were fined last week.

Why did Celtics fine happen now ?

Did someone (in Scotland ) see the Dundalk fine and bring our Murrayfield flag display to the attention of UEFA ?

St Johnstone of course being collateral damage.

I demand to know the names

  4. I’ve not idea why we left it so late to put the paperwork through for Guidetti but it looks like it really was last minute. No idea if we’ll be able to claim we sent it through before 11pm, or if that would even matter.

The best chance we may have is to get him to get out of his contact (would he be interested in signing permanently?). This probably isn’t what the board would want given his injury and illnesses. But if we were to take him on loan and he was to perform as he can then we would have no chance in getting him at the end, he’d have plenty of offers and could move as a free agent.

He may well be able to get out his contract, he can’t play now as he’s not in Man City’s squad so is just a wage drain.

Might turn out well for us… if he wants to come long term.

No he isn’t. He’s an Israeli Arab, they’re not the same thing.

  6. So what we need is an Israeli flag being flown at a game in one of UEFA’s competitions where no Israeli players took part. Let’s test UEFA’s reasoning.

  7. The Palestinian Flag.: Somebody at UEFA needs their head examined to see if it’s possible to replace their lost wisdom tooth on this one.

Would doing nothing have meant undermining their policy on poltical symbols enough to damage that policy?

It’s a judgement call but that’s what folk get paid to do.

A censure that reminded clubs of UEFA policy would have been sufficient in this particular very emotive issue at this time.

  8. PL could be playing a fast one, intentionally not putting the paperwork through on time or with enough time to process.

The SFA could have screwed us.

PL could be sneaky and forcing Man City to release the player as they now can’t use him – if that is the case bye bye relationship with Man City as they apparently had an offer for him.

  9. See all this nonsense about flags, which is obviously about pandering to some idiotic political agenda, which has nothing to do with Celtic, can’t Celtic go back to flying just about every concievable flag under the sun, which we used to do from the roof of the ole new Hayshed, back in the day?

Personally, I think, until we become Independent, Celtic, if we have to fly any flag offically at all, it must be the Saltire and the Union Jack. (By the way, I noticed that there were a couple of Saltires being waved at the last home game; great stuff.)

If you could draw two lines heading away from the West Bank and Gaza the point where they cross in NW Israel is where Beram Kayal is from. It’s like saying somebody from Kerry is an Ulsterman.

  14. I don’t know for sure, but….

I don’t think we can get Guidetti through an out of contract deal with Man City.

I think that, for this to happen, the player had to be out of contract before the window closed. Otherwise, the window wouldn’t work. Clubs could ‘sell’ players at any time of the year.

In fact, I think this came up when we signed Roy Keane. Even though he was out of contract, he couldn’t play until January.

    From Prof John Curtice

The Yes campaign have momentum with just over two weeks to go will it be enough

For the most of the referendum campaign, the picture painted by the polls has been one of relative stability. The results produced by a company in one month have often been much the same as those it had reported the previous month – and were often much the same as those that eventually appeared the next month. As our poll of polls illustrates, up to now the only period when there has been a consistent movement in one direction was during the winter of this year, when the Yes side added some four points or so to its tally.

Against that backdrop today’s poll from YouGov – for both The Sun and The Times – will come as both as a surprise and (for the No side at least) a shock. It puts Yes on 42%, up four points on YouGov’s previous reading just a fortnight ago (after the first leaders’ debate) and No on 48% (down 3). Once the Don’t Knows are excluded Yes are on 47%, up four points, by far and away a record Yes vote from a pollster that has hitherto tended to paint a relatively pessimistic picture for the Yes side.

Indeed, this is the second time in a row that YouGov have reported a record high Yes vote. In contrast, in its last poll but one, conducted as recently as the beginning of August, the company put Yes on just 39% (after Don’t Knows had been excluded), as indeed it did too in its poll before that, conducted at the back end of June. In short today’s poll suggests that Yes support has increased in a month by as much as eight points on what was a seemingly stable baseline.

  18. So who was at fault for not getting the Guidetti deal done in time? Was it ours or Citeh’s?

Or was it the ghost of Jim Farry at the SFA who thought the named sounded supiciously like Jorge Cadette?

I think that Henke made more than 42 senior league appearances in the six years prior to him joining Celtic. Guidettis form at Feynoord 2011 to 2012 looks impressive on paper but it seems that Feynoord weren’t impressed and he was loaned out two years later to stoke. What puzzles me is what he did in the intervening period between Feynoord and Stoke, allied that to the fact that he hasn’t featured at international level since 2012 either sets alarm bells ringing

Btw read up on his proposed moved to twente and it may give you an indication what happened last night rather than speculation on what bloggers have you believe is informed information

So your argument is that all Israeli’s are in fact Palestinians. Where are the borders of Palestine?

  24. As far as I’m aware EPL clubs must submit a squad of 25 players and Guidetti would not have been on that list? Presumed that would mean he cannot play – I may be wrong?
