Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

I’m a bit lost with your comments on Izzy, being past it, how he crosses etc, I’m sorry the facts contradict your opinions. His crosses or passes more often than not are converted into goals.

I play as a winger, now if i run the full length or 2/3rds the length of the field with the ball, I think its unacceptable for a striker without the ball not to get into the box or danger zones if i can run that length with the ball!

Izzy cannot be criticised for that. His team mates should be busting a gut to get into the box, either for a cut back or a ball across the face!

It’s absolutely clear that Scepovic was holding out for somebody else and had to settle for Celtic.

Maybe we should have got somebody else sooner but I am sure we couldn’t have got Scepovic sooner

Regards Guidetti from what I have read here seems to be an administration matter

As we all know from recent happenings rules are rules and as previous,Celtic should be keen to abide by same.

If Guidetti signs will you still instruct Celtic to stick their Europa home match tickets up one of their erses?!

I think he is a poor defender.

He was very, very, very, lucky not to be sent of on Sunday because everyone was running past him most of the time and he was fouling at will.

He’s poor in the air, no, make that useless in the air.

My happiness is not the issue.

Celtic should abide by the rules. I know that’s what you really meant, rather than suggesting we were given a favour of some sort over the Legia thing.

We work with the law, just like polis are meant to.

Re Izzy’s crossing. Is there any player who consistently delivers “a good cross”? None since Beckham IMO.

I seem to recall a quote from Beckham about crosses along the lines of it’s his job to put the ball into dangerous areas and it’s up to the striker to get on the end of them.

  7. Philbhoy – were you listening to the commentary? They mentioned every time Izzy committed a foul after his yellow. “He has to be careful”, “Ref lenient.. on another day”.

He only committed 2 fouls after his yellow. Neither of which would normally warrant a yellow. And he made one SUPERB tackle when they had a breakaway and the merest hint of mistiming would have been a straight red.

  8. Uefa have taken a pro-Israeli stance .

How that middle east state is even in Uefa I dont know.

Theres loads of countries involved in conflicts including the UK, US, France, Ukraine etc ,ect and of course Israel. Wonder if waving a star of David flag is against Uefas rules?

Most of Dundee, yes, the mighty Dundee, attacks which produced goal scoring opportunities were down Izzy’s side of the pitch.

One suberb tackle in a game doesn’t mean you’ve had a great game.

    Does it?

  10. Official Site updated re Loans. Toshney also released as well as Atajic. Brondby have an option to buy The Fridge and not Pukki as was reported here last night. Our revised squad is 34 players, including 4 Loanees whilst we have 5 gone on loan. Overall I think good work has been done,

    He`s not that bad.

He nodded the ball back in for the Maribor winner.

  12. Denny Johnstone also recently joined Birmingham City.

    Bosman or fee involved?

    A striker as well!

  13. A mark of Izz’s character. He is in a rubbish team at World Cup against infinitely better competition. Did he hide?

He is in a team that are a shadow of the one he joined – does he moan and agitate to leave?

I have a lot of respect for Izzy – he has Celtic character and ability IMHO

  14. I think anybody who has played football, will understand how difficult it is, to recover from a leg or ankle break…it takes time.

Now that the transfer windows shut when’s one of the next CQN favourite subjects going to be aired…….the boycott of any particular away ground

    ============================

He did not commit a foul worth a yellow card.

What about the centre mid for Dundee who was dishing it out all match? He should have walked for raking his studs down Kayals achiles alone.

There is a pundit agenda when Celtic are on telly. How poor is the defending is a constant – even when we had the record number of shut-outs. They slate ALL our defenders. Zonal marking is constantly mentioned – even when we had the record number of shut-outs.

At least we have two Scottish golden boys in Craig Gordon and Scott Brown, they can do no wrong, which is strange to hear as a Celtic supporter.

Izzy is 100% Tim and needs good players to cover him, they don’t at the moment.

  18. Izzy didn’t have his best game on Sunday.

He was also afforded very little support from the guys in front of him.

  19. Got to credit Lawwell with the goalie situation.. Replacing FF with a better goalie and pocketing. £10m is no bad going….

SB is not my favourite. ..but he has improved a lot…and will always give all he can.

    ==========================================

Izzy puts 100% in every game, he does not get the cover. He saw the Dundee speed merchant he was against subbed after an hour, Izzy was still bombing up and down after the 90………..STILL with no cover.

There is a great piece of footage of Jock Stein doing his team talk in the official history of Celtic which I believe was filmed in 1967.

He is talking to the players and says something along the lines of.

‘If someone is having a bad game make sure that someone helps him out.’

I have critcised Izzy in Europe for a few seasons now. I make no excuses for that. I like wee Izzy. A very hard working attacking player. I think he is too wee for the full back role in Europe. You either need to be exceptional or very fast to make up for the lack of height. I seem to think that he gets attracted to the ball at times and I watched him closely away at Maribor and he got attracted to the ball up the pitch and left his area wide open when they worked the ball out of their own full back area.

In the Scottish game Izzy is usually on the attack and he does that side of the game well. He is a defender though and must defend well. Unless we go to 3 at the back and he is able to have cover he needs to be able to get up and down quickly.

Since his injury he has lost a yard. He is certainly still pacey though.

Going back to my half remembered quote. The team work is not there at the minute. At times Celtic have looked like a team thrown together. There are a lack of leaders which I don;t feel we have addressed. Nobody is helping Izzy. He is being exposed. The same goes for Ambrose. These two guys are not hiding. They are available and always happy to get on the ball and take responsibilty. Someone is not covering then they are there. They are making rash challenges and being caught out of position because they care, because they want to win, because nobody else is doing it.

These guys are top pros. They work hard and they train hard. They have never let us down in terms of not being in the right frame of mind or by doing anything off the pitch.

What we need are leaders on the pitch to ensure these guys are not exposed. We are missing our captain but the lack of leaders elsewhere worries me. We used to have 4 or 5 captains on the pitch. Right now we have none.

If there is a free agent with experience who can give us a bit of leadership in Broony’s abscence I would snap him up. Eeven if Broony is back and this guy is in the team two leaders don;t do any harm. I have said it before and will say it again. Until Broony is back make Gordon captain. He is the most experienced and looks the most respected memeber of our side at the minute.

Not a great fan of goalies as captain but in my opinion he is the only man suitable.

SB is a mystery to me. He’s technically poor and can’t pass the ball. He does have energy and drive.

I’ve always felt he has been burdened with captaincy at Celtic. He is a grafter not a star. He should be asked to beaver away and pass the ball to more skilful players around him.

However for Scotland he is brilliant???

I think he’ll be one of our stronger players this season and I don’t think that’s down to him improving.

  24. There was a guy waving a Palestinian flag a few rows in front of me at the Maribor game last week.

It was after the final whistle so I’m not sure if that counts towards another infringement.

People telling us to wait for the fact before making a judgement on the board, it would be nice if they extended the same courtesy to accused supporters, so give me peace.

I extend the same rules they do, the board screwed up and the onus is on them to prove they never.

  26. The only players I’d be gutted to see leave Celtic are Izzy, Kris Commons and Craig Gordon…

No there players strike me as bring must plays.

Not the greatest…but after his broony at ipox.

He is needed in the team asap.

    Great attitude….thats what we need.

  28. Fined for Palestinian flag flying.

Uefa explain that because of the conflict, that flag is considered to be political.

As far as iI know, the state of Palestine is recognised by governments and U.N. .

    Some questions arise.

How many fines imposed for flying Israeli flag?

How do clubs know which flags are currently proscribed ?

How do fans know which flags are currently proscribed ?

Who decides which flags are political ?

As for working with the law I totally agree Celtic have been very co-operative with Polizia

Escocia in dealing with issues surrounding the green brigade from what I hear

  31. I was not a Brown fan at first, but he did improve and you cannot question his work rate. The fact that he is such an important member of the team and is really missed when injured, show how the standard of the team has slipped over the last few seasons.

  32. UEFA are now fining teams for their supporters flying flags of recognised states?

Because its a conflict it is political? Imagine Israeli teams must be getting heavily cnsured as well?
