Guidetti awaits Fifa, Scepovic held nerve

1862

Celtic await ratification of Guidetti’s transfer by the SFA.  The player travelled to Glasgow yesterday afternoon and quickly concluded a deal with Celtic, but it took until late in the evening before paperwork arrived from Manchester.

Aware of the delay, Celtic applied to the SFA for an extension.  The SFA authorised the extension and subsequently received all relevant paperwork, Celtic believed they were over the line, but I understand we are in new territory with respect to extensions, so the SFA have asked Fifa for guidance.

Paperwork was submitted considerably before Manchester United completed the 2am signing of Radamel Falcao, so there is reason for hope, but it’s not clear in Glasgow what discretion the FA used to register Falcao.  The same may or may not be available to the SFA.

There are also time constraints, player lists for Uefa group stage competitions need to be completed by 23:00 tonight, and we can’t add the player until Fifa issue guidance to the SFA.

If Celtic wanted a more complicated transfer than Guidetti they surely found it with our Serbian striker, Stefan Scepovic.  Transfers involving influences across multiple countries are often difficult……

One thing Celtic are clear about is the endurance of the player, who had to sit through difficult hours in order to make the deal happen.  He kept his nerve as others tried to sell him to Getafe – who were under no Financial Fair Play restrictions.

We’ll do a wrap-up of the window tomorrow.

Yet again holding up a Celtic transfer.

Something should be done about these peepul.

    Tell me something.

How do you feel about Alex Salmond, who I think has something to do with the yes campaign, telling the world that ‘we didn’t mind the economic side so much’ about Thatcher?

  3. Hope Guidetti Spaghetti is using his time productively, in the gym, working off that little bit of holiday weight hes carrying

    B-)

  4. Ernie , Salmond is a flash in the pan. If Scotland choose to govern themselves who do you think will choose a Scottish Government. I would be very surprised if my people voted in a Thatcherite gov. Your point is moot.

There was a quote from him saying that on transfer day it was so frantic he didn’t know whether or not he’d eaten all day.

    That might explain the chubbiness.

If a chap doesn’t actually know whether he’s eaten (I mean it’s not exactly a difficult question, is it?, have I eaten?) then it’s going to be a bit of a challenge to follow any sort of diet regime.

Maybe John Collins can sort him out. I’m sure he can.

  6. I don’t have a lot of time for the SFA, but in the case of Guidetti, should we not start by looking closer to home ?

It wasn’t the SFA who left the signing to last minutes of last day of transfer window.

No doubt Celtic will come up with usual baloney, that he wasn’t previously available.

Of course, had there been a cluster of other teams chasing him, some of the difficulties may have come to light earlier ?

Last year when we tried to sign Tomlin from Peteborough, our amateurish antics in the transfer market, were exposed by their owner on Sky.

Can’t help think we need to sort our own house first

I purposely kept out of the whole independence debate on here yesterday but independence is not and should not be about individual politicians or even parties. Politicians will come and go. It is about what we think will be best for our children and grandchildren and their grandchildren.

Because it’s for ever, in the great scheme of things, even our generation won’t be affected that much.

“Your people? ” Bit of a slip there.

SNP as Nicola said last won the last two elections.

    Just saying.

The nonsense of the transfer window means these antics are encouraged as an artificial game of poker gets played throughout europe. Look at the amount of faxes whirling at 1 minute to closing time as evidence. Falcao to United took up to 2am apparently.

The Tomlin story was ridiculous. Somehting about him being substituted during a game as we made bids as he was being unsettled ? Really ?

Facts from those close to it suggest we as a club have done nothing untoward here. Sure we have the SFA backing our corner.

Relax. Sometimes it isn’t a Peter Lawell conspiracy to raise stress levels amongst the support :)

I think the concern is that someone with views like that, who has devoted his life to having Scotland leave the UK, probably hasn’t done it with a view to establishing a socialist paradise.

I think Jim Mather the SNP MSP summed it up pretty well

‘And notion that a separate Scotland would be a left wing country is delusional nonsense’

No disrespect to any of the nats on here but I think Jim Mather has a better idea about what would happen in a separate Scotland than any of them.

  12. Speaking of diets

I hear theres a ‘crash’ on the way but so far…. so good

  13. Taurangabhoy:

I never said that there were not people on here proud to be Scottish, I said that in all my time on here – prior to the independence issue – only a few felt to mention it.

I have no doubts about the capabilities of Scotland to get by in the short term it is the long term that concerns me. Scotland would be starting from scratch, obviously she would be subsidised somewhat from the UK pot but that will not be bottomless.

I invite you, and anybody else who is remotely interested, to read up on dual citizenship laws and how it would affect the mobility of future generations. How many different national ‘citizenships’ will the world allow Scotland? If you pick to have UK and Scottish does that rule you out of having a N.Z., Australian or Canadian passport too?At the moment it does from an Australian perspective.

It is for the children I ever raised the issue in the first place but I am not going to preach on it I am inviting you to read on it for the good of your children.

James Forrest, a couple of days ago, wrote a very eloquent post on dual citizenship and a few of the other points I raised, he cited the white paper as collateral. He also mentioned how he’d been let down by the Labour party and their lies yet he accepts a bum-wipe white paper as the Tartan Magna Charter; had me taking a step back that did.

If you are going to make a choice then an informed choice is always better than an emotional choice. Don’t listen to me or J.F., if it is important to you then it is worth reading up about.

Don’t read everything from a Scottish perspective, look at the big picture and the international interests that will determine Scotland’s place in the world, read about EU membership from a Spanish, amongst others, perspective. See where the obstacles might arise. Read for unequivocal statements, don’t skip past ministry statements that contain the words – likely – possibly – negotiable.

Remember what happened in Greece and Cyprus and the private savings. Look at the unemployment figures in Spain, Italy, France, Greece, etc. Look at the conduct of some European banks and never forget what they resorted to, bearing in mind that the recent conduct of Scottish banks should not pass without considerable consideration.

As I said mate, rather than me have a ten page pro column, I encourage everybody to put romantics and emotion to the side and make an informed choice, take the time to balance the pro’s and cons, not just for you – but for your children yet to be born, and then live with it, remembering your choice will see your gravestone weather.

And if your bed gets cold… then at least it is your bed.

  16. Martim1980 you’ve lost me mate. I simply mean the people of Scotland. I was as surprised as anyone when the SNP started winning seats, when I was partying hard in Glasgow they were definitely the fringe Scottish Tories. Times changed obviously and they moved centre left or people lost faith in Scottish labour. Jim Murphy is an Mp for my town. He had to win the Mearns and Clarkston vote too which is marginal and probably more no. He may wel be passionate about better together but I am sure he is also eyeing his electorate, what politician doesn’t.

I am not suggesting it is a PL conspiracy.

My cynicism and frustration is derived from our continued failing in the transfer market over last 3/4 years.

For every penny we make on a Foster or a Ki, about 60% is wasted on a Rasmussen, Murphy, Bangura, Lassad etc etc

That wastage doesn’t include all the management time & resource spent on supposed identification, recruitment , and in many cases contract write off … I wonder how many will be in the latest accounts.

PL claims we are one of best run clubs in world – compared to the mob in south side, we may be , but no more than that .

stop moaning. Spare a thought for me as I try to keep my head above water, but seem to be swimming against the tide.

Can’t understand it. I am being very frugal but things are gradually getting worse.

My car keeps letting me down but despite people advising me to get a new one I don’t see why I should spend any money. There is life in the ol’ Hillman Minx yet.

Business is on the slide and I cannot work out why. Although the machinery has seen better days, and is constantly under performing, losing me income and customers, better machines cost a lot of money. Buying new machinery would also mean spending the money I have stock piled.

It does not help that those who love me are also getting on my case. Wife constantly harping on about having had enough and complaining that the washing machine needs upgraded, but that twin tub gets the job done. Anyhow, I did get her an automatic from the January sale, and it turned out to be a real bargain. I made a right good profit when I flogged it on e-bay and the money is safely tucked away in the bank.

People are trying to convince me that I should speculate to accumulate and venture into the European market, but I’m not bloody daft. A friend of mine who used to throw some work my way went bust. He was earning decent money, nearly £500 a week, but when he went down he lost the lot. 3 houses, 2 cars, the yacht, castle, everything. He is working his way back up again though, and as soon as he is back I am sure things will be better.

I only hope I still have some customers left when he gets back again.

Must dash. I’m up to my neck in dirt here, so I am off to borrow a vacuum cleaner.

How many times do I have to say, this is not about Alex Salmond?.People like you Ernie, try and pump up this perceived dislike of Salmond to mask other things.

If Salmond was so universally disliked as you keep trying to infer by jibes and insults,I do not think for one minute that his party would have swept to power in Scotland.

Not about Salmond.About Independence. But keep trying.

  27. Kitalba if the EU invited the two million people of little old landlocked Slovenia into the family what makes you think Scotland , with a thousand years of independent history would be refused. I only need two passports , Scotland and New Zealand. I am sure that these would still let me visit my friends and family down South. The NO campaign is based on fear, the OL fear being on their own and the Rebels fear an Orange Scotland so they vote together. You are saying that without England and Westminster Scotland becomes Greece. Maybe Denmark should become part of Germany and Finland part of Russia.

  30. I’ve stayed out the independence decade other than one point which has just been made again and is I think crucial in this. The vote is not to elect someone, the vote is to decide if we feel that we should be governed in Scotland. A yes will see am election to vote a parliament in. I doubt the snp would bare much resemblance to its current form if there was such a vote. Independence is what keeps them together, once achieved they will gravitate to their political views for am independent Scotland. With a no we know we are voting for Cameron, milliband, clegg or farage to run the country, the ni parties have been known to be in coalition in Westminster before.

The choice is to change to self determination or that you are happy with the current position.

A truly federal uk with english, Scottish, Welsh and ni governments and an overarching uk parliament focused on pan UK issues would be attractive me. But it’s not on offer
