Guidetti awaits Fifa, Scepovic held nerve

1862

Celtic await ratification of Guidetti’s transfer by the SFA.  The player travelled to Glasgow yesterday afternoon and quickly concluded a deal with Celtic, but it took until late in the evening before paperwork arrived from Manchester.

Aware of the delay, Celtic applied to the SFA for an extension.  The SFA authorised the extension and subsequently received all relevant paperwork, Celtic believed they were over the line, but I understand we are in new territory with respect to extensions, so the SFA have asked Fifa for guidance.

Paperwork was submitted considerably before Manchester United completed the 2am signing of Radamel Falcao, so there is reason for hope, but it’s not clear in Glasgow what discretion the FA used to register Falcao.  The same may or may not be available to the SFA.

There are also time constraints, player lists for Uefa group stage competitions need to be completed by 23:00 tonight, and we can’t add the player until Fifa issue guidance to the SFA.

If Celtic wanted a more complicated transfer than Guidetti they surely found it with our Serbian striker, Stefan Scepovic.  Transfers involving influences across multiple countries are often difficult……

One thing Celtic are clear about is the endurance of the player, who had to sit through difficult hours in order to make the deal happen.  He kept his nerve as others tried to sell him to Getafe – who were under no Financial Fair Play restrictions.

We’ll do a wrap-up of the window tomorrow.

Some are laying the blame at the door of the SFA, others at the door of Pedro, a bit of both me thinks.

    Some are saying that we need to wait till the end of the window to get a cheaper deal, we didn’t with VvD, got him in at the start of the window, not good Pedro, you could have saved a few bob had you waited >}

I think we won’t get him, it suits Pedro, we won’t be told the truth, so those who blame the sfa can carry on blaming them, those who blame the club can carry on blaming the club.

I’ve never ever said it was guaranteed. I’ve always postulated that there was a risk that we’d have to follow the path that NHS England is taking. I’ve been following that story long before I started making my decisions on the referendum.

That a group of healthcare professionals some of home have been involved in policy decisions are so worried about privatisation of NHS England, that they formed a political party to highlight it speaks volumes.

If the funding for NHS England declines, our Scotland’s block payment falls. How the Scottish Government deal with that is up for debate, but somebody, somewhere is going to miss out. Either other services will need to be reduces, or we’ll have to pay more to maintain our services. We’d be paying more taxes than the rest of the UK to maintain service levels we had prior to the referendum.

Maybe a reduction of funding of NHS England won’t happen but many, many people working in it seem convinced it will.

  9. This Guidetti farce is depressing….someone is at it.

  14. My friends in Celtic,

As this is fundamentally a Celtic footballing blog, I am reasonably happy with the transfer window. ( Could still get better. FIFA dependant )

Verdict : Average, could have done better.

I notice Man Utd signing Radamel Falcao on a one year loan deal with obscene remuneration. One of the reasons is that the player has to be compensated financially moving from the tax haven of Monaco.

It is fairly certain that in an “independent” Scotland the higher rate of tax would have to increase. This would without doubt make I harder for us to keep, attract and sign players, especially if the tax threshold would be less in England.

I say fairly certain as everything fiscal is based on assumption, the only certainty to date is that a 3% reduction in corporation tax would benefit the likes of DD.

When you talk about privatisation of the NHS do you mean that healthcare would no longer be paid for out of general taxation?

Or that it would no longer be free at the point of use?

Or that healthcare would still be paid for out of general taxation and free at the point of use but delivered by private contractors, rather in the way that GPs have operated since the NHS started?

And does it follow that privatisation would necessarily mean a cut in budgets?

I suspect that it will akin to GP contracts and initially at any rate the end user will not see an appreciable difference.

However services will be fully open to tender, and while in some cases the healthcare trusts may choose quality over price, I think it’s inevitable that in many cases they’ll take the cheapest option. Now that’s not a guarantee that the funding from general taxation will be reduced but if the Treasury see that there’s excess money left over from the budget given to the NHS I’d suggest it’s likely it will be reduced.

It’s also worth remembering that under TTIP that private companies will be able to sue the Government if they make legislation changes that affect profit.

Overall I just think it’s intrinsically wrong to turn the NHS over to organisations whose prime motivator is profit.

Re the transfer window …if Gordon stays fit , Scepovic continues his current form at CFC and the Guidetti transfer goes thro and he performs …I think this transfer window will be the first in a while that the team will actually be improved

We have shipped out a few under performers …seen McGregor establish himself …retained VVD ….added some good attacking options

pure and simple – the privatisation of servies in NHS England is to reduce costs and the budget expenditure. It is gathering pace with contracts being awarded to companies of Tory Party donors. Whole swathes of cancer screennig programmes are and cancer services are being privatised.

  24. I am absolutely certain that the Tories will bring in more areas where charging will be acceptable in NHS England.

  25. Really hope this signing goes through.. Team needs it and so does the fans.

My guess, while Citeh were trading gazillions of spondooliks in and out, the loan deal for the bold Guidetti was hardly prioritised.

Celtic and the SFA… *cough*…. have probably done all that could be done and a clear and simple time infringement has occurred which some empty suit will be required to adjudicate on.

Very frustrating for us – probably hardly registers for the “Manchester Giants”.
