Guidetti the exceptional talent

1003

We’ve had a few free kick experts in modern times.  Lubo was first.  He could hit them, and score with them, with either foot.  The man was a menace to opponents on many levels.  He also taught us that hitting the ball as hard as possible into an opponent’s body, standard fare for Celtic in the 80s and early 90s, was a poor return from a dead ball situation.

Lubo clearly influenced Shaun but it wasn’t until Naka arrived that Shaun really found his grove.  With right footed Maloney and left footed Nakamura lining up behind the ball keepers were forced to leave a vulnerable space at any centrally-located free kick.

I don’t remember any player scoring with three consecutive free kicks, an absolutely exceptional feat.  John Guidetti is proving to be an exceptional player.  From what I hear he’s also enjoying being a Celtic player, there’s been a meeting of minds on what is expected and what’s on offer.

This is a young player who has already learned a few lessons on football clubs and career management.  He has the makings of a Celtic legend.

Those of you who weren’t there last night, make sure you see the goals.  Four of them were exceptional.

Many thanks to everyone who has big on our auction for two debenture seats for the Inverness game on Saturday, courtesy of Celtic sponsor, Magners.  Funds raised go towards building our forth kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi, specifically for the 909 children who attend Chibwata Primary School in Dowa, which currently doesn’t have a kitchen.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, but………  things are improving.  93% of your money raised is getting to the projects on the ground, Mary’s Meals are now feeding hundreds of thousands of kids there each day, over 2000 of them in kitchens CQN readers have already built.

Kids who are fed at school there are able to attend instead of having to work for food – primary school attendance is up 30% after Mary’s Meals build a kitchen.  As a result they all get a basic education, some of them are set on a road to a higher education and all have better chances in life.

The auction closes tomorrow. You will do nothing better today than get involved with this one, which you can do here.

Oh god,Ronny. How naive can you be?

Let`s make excuses for the innocent ?

This is something we will need to assess,” said Deila. “I really believe in him. It’s important to understand that people make mistakes.

“Everyone makes mistakes – I’m now talking generally. We have to assess it from there. Of course we have no support for racism – that’s clear. We will have nothing about that.

“Sometimes as a young player stupid things happen all the time with smaller issues. This is something we will need to assess but I really believe in Aleksandar. I’m sure that he hasn’t said that towards the player.”

  2. BMCUWP & Macjay1,

It was his first game and he gets called out as being Racist, it adds credence to the fact that All Scottish Clubs have the Black and White Brigade controlling things, or perhaps it is just Money and the Aberdeen player was offered Money. Corruption is rife everywhere. Then again perhaps the guy was so pumped up he let things go in the heat of the moment. Who knows? I certainly don’t. I know 1 little thing. The SFA are Corrupt to the Core.

Celtic have done the right thing and backed the player (who hasn’t done too well – so far, these things can inspire) and that is right and Just. The Celtic Support needs some real backing now.

  4. Tonev verdict is against Celtic, designed to tarnish our name while the scum rises. One mans word against another compare with live televised assault on Neil Lennon and a not guilty. Remember that he was also “assaulted” with a bomb. I really hope Celtic stand up and protect our players. If they don’t the only assumption that can be made is that they think he is guilty.

Good on the Jam Tarts for paying the living wage. Can’t stand their edinburgy hun support but the Club is behaving in a manner that is highly commendable. If only Celtic PLC had the same high standards as many of its supportes and even Hertz. Weekend just about to start here. Have a good one.

    Mate.

Always good to talk to you.

    I haven`t a clue what Tonev said.

But,this is precisely the sort of issue which can unite us.

In fact,OUR eyewitnesses suggest that there was a genuine and angry reaction from the Aberdeen player.

    I can`t judge,but neither can the S.F.A. sods.

These days they are doing it to football club’s programme editors. The truth has to be buried because they can’t afford the truth be public. And we pay them out of our pockets to bury the truth so we can pay them even more to dig deeper. But smile, at least we get to whinge about it, whilst Ogilvie goes skinny dipping in Monaco, or was it the Maldives…

  19. skyisalandfill on

The SFA, and in particular the discipline committee or whatever it’s called have made themselves vulnerable to legal challenge. The bizarre Boyd not proven verdict, when everyone watching it could clearly see what was violent conduct and normally a lengthy suspension.

Now we have a seven game ban and a declaration of guilt based on what one man thinks he heard. No one other than Tonev knows what he said, but he has no apparent history of racist abuse. This would be a good fit for a not proven verdict although the mud would stick as is often the case with NP.

Anyhoo. I’m delighted that Celtic are appealing this and I wish they would see it through, Fergus stylee and remove some heads. Nae likely though.

  24. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma on

    Good Morning.

During an appeal against an SFA disciplinary finding against Derek Adam, a sheriff of my acquaintance sat in on the appeal hearing as part of his “training” for sitting on the appeal panel.

Adams had been sent to the stand for certain conduct whilst being part of the management team at Hibs.

During the course of the hearing it became clear that the referee who made the decision had given evidence to the effect that had the same conduct been the actions of virtually any other manager or coach then they would not have been sent to the stand.

Clearly this was a case of one law for most and one law for Derek Adams, and obviously this was a ludicrous decision and could not be allowed to stand in law.

The problem was that the SFA disciplinary committee concerned had in fact acted on the referees report and did indeed sanction Adams on the basis of the referees biased and ridiculous report.

It was only on appeal that proper and sensible legal tests were applied.

I have no time for anyone who expresses a racist remark whilst accepting that people can say the oddest of things during the course of a football match. They don’t even have to be players.

However, here we ave a disciplinary system which is like Pravda.

We have no knowledge of the detail of the allegation, what was allegedly said, who supposedly heard it, whether that account is corroborated or not and so on.

In short the SFA have publicly said that there has been an allegation of Tonev making a racist remark — however the public are not allowed knowledge of any detail.

Fair enough, maybe that is a reasonable position to take.

However, the player concerned has said simply that he did not make any racist remarks and/or he never said what is alleged.

Let’s stand back for a moment and think about that.

“I never said that!” ” I never made any racist remark”.

Those statements leave very little room for manoeuvre

in terms of a test and any body examining this should establish:

    1. Was the alleged remark clearly a racist remark?

    2. Did Tonev make the remark?

Before convicting Tonev one would hope that they would establish those questions acting on evidence which is reliable and credible — unlike the referee in the Adams case.

My concern is that there is no detail as to the allegation or the quality of evidence available, and regrettably the SFA disciplinary procedures have been shown to lack all sense of rudimentary jurisprudence in the past.

The decision to ban him for 7 games shows that the nature of the offence is beyond what one might consider a minimal offence.

Whilst I do not want to pre-judge anything, I will await with interest the outcome of any SFA proceedings which have to deal with one professional footballer assaulting an another in the public street to his injury or severe injury and whether or not there was any racial element involved in that incident.

Whatever happened there, a Football Club deemed that the necessary sanction was to ban the player from playing for nothing like 7 games and fined him 4 weeks wages.

  25. For a foreigner Tonev is well versed in effing and jeffing, im surprised he would use the word C**t, and in that sentence, seems a bit strange, whats his English like? anybody know?

  26. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

A Dublin Gaelic footballer battered some poor fellow in an unprovoked attack, and was recently found guilty in a court of law – the footballer was fined €5,000, or something like that.

If Stokesy is proven to be guilty of attacking the Elvis person, in the same city – the victim should be financially compensated – no gaol time – plus a fine job.

Strange case indeed, because the authorities in Dublin have previous with the family.

Two wrongs don’t make a right, however the law must be seen to be applied fairly and equally in all cases.

It shouldn’t even have been brought to court – maybe, just maybe… Stokesy is innocent?

Why, if he was out of order, did he just not apologise for the incident, and ask the Elvis guy not to report the alleged assault – and offer him financial compensation not to take the matter any further?

It would have saved a lot of hassle.

  27. foghorn leghorn on

    Just to be clear,

It’s not Celtic who are appealing – it’s the player

Celtic are backing his appeal because he said he didn’t do it, and if Celtic have not been given any evidence to say he did do it, then they must back his appeal

If evidence turns up which clearly shows he did do it, and so has been taking us all for mugs, then he will be shipped back down south quick style

But backing him at this stage is entirely right

  28. foghorn leghorn on

And obviously none of us are privy to what the alleged racist remark was

If he called him a ******* *** **** then thats clearly racist and he could even find himself arrested for it

But if he just called him a *** * ****** then thats just laddish banter

  29. Asked a few of my friends last night down our local if they think Alex Tonev would call a Black player what has been suggested.

They just laughed, and said it aint a “Bulgarian Thing” obviously they are all on Tonev’s side over this allegation.

And for someone to post earlier on here about his “Cultural Baggage” would you care to elaborate on that nonsense ?
