Guidetti the exceptional talent

1003

We’ve had a few free kick experts in modern times.  Lubo was first.  He could hit them, and score with them, with either foot.  The man was a menace to opponents on many levels.  He also taught us that hitting the ball as hard as possible into an opponent’s body, standard fare for Celtic in the 80s and early 90s, was a poor return from a dead ball situation.

Lubo clearly influenced Shaun but it wasn’t until Naka arrived that Shaun really found his grove.  With right footed Maloney and left footed Nakamura lining up behind the ball keepers were forced to leave a vulnerable space at any centrally-located free kick.

I don’t remember any player scoring with three consecutive free kicks, an absolutely exceptional feat.  John Guidetti is proving to be an exceptional player.  From what I hear he’s also enjoying being a Celtic player, there’s been a meeting of minds on what is expected and what’s on offer.

This is a young player who has already learned a few lessons on football clubs and career management.  He has the makings of a Celtic legend.

Those of you who weren’t there last night, make sure you see the goals.  Four of them were exceptional.

Many thanks to everyone who has big on our auction for two debenture seats for the Inverness game on Saturday, courtesy of Celtic sponsor, Magners.  Funds raised go towards building our forth kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi, specifically for the 909 children who attend Chibwata Primary School in Dowa, which currently doesn’t have a kitchen.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, but………  things are improving.  93% of your money raised is getting to the projects on the ground, Mary’s Meals are now feeding hundreds of thousands of kids there each day, over 2000 of them in kitchens CQN readers have already built.

Kids who are fed at school there are able to attend instead of having to work for food – primary school attendance is up 30% after Mary’s Meals build a kitchen.  As a result they all get a basic education, some of them are set on a road to a higher education and all have better chances in life.

The auction closes tomorrow. You will do nothing better today than get involved with this one, which you can do here.

“In the Ferdinand case there was no dispute about the words he used, they were published by him. He never denied saying what he said”

In Tonev’s case he denies using the words he is alleged to have used. Very different case”

With respect I think you have missed the point regarding Rio Ferdinand. Yes Rio admitted guilt for a racist issue.

But has he been treated differently fom others. Did it damage his footballing career.? Did it damage his media work ? Has he been ostracised ?

Indeed he was welcomed to Parkhead with open arms for a charity game.

Equality is everything. Consistency is everything. I feel that the players status in the game has determined his treatment.

I still maintain ” All players are equal, but it seems some are more equal than others.”

If Tonev has indeed disgraced the hoops, appropriate punishment should follow, but that punishment should be consistent for all, not on how importent or valuable the player is.

I believe it could be payback of a sort, assuming Tonev is guiltless (innocent until proven guilty as opposed ‘branded’ guilty without substantial proof ((whatever happened to the transperancy promise?)) but I don’t think Celtic had anything at all to do with the departure of Dallas.

How much time did Bougherra get for manhandling the referee? I know the ref said he didn’t feel threatened but to me that is not the point, it the act that merited an appropriate punishment not the fact that an individual ref didn’t feel threatened, does that ref speak for all refs?

The allegation was made instantly by Logan and for this reason I believe him, he had no reason whatsoever to lie. Although without audio or visual evidence his allegation cannot be substantiated, therefore the SFA’s decision is beyond a joke.

Thought at the time that it would have been a good idea for Celtic to have been proactive and to have invited Logan and McInnes for clear the air talks immediately after the game. Doubtful this happened but perhaps all that has now followed could have been avoided at the time of this unfortunate incident.

So far this season we have seen one of our players banned for being fouled in the area and winning a penalty, and another hit with a draconian sentence on little more than circumstantial evidence of how another player reacted.

Add to that the fact that our players-Izzy two weeks ago,for instance-are regularly kicked black and blue without sanction, and I can see word getting around to avoid signing for us.

Time to put a halt to this,Celtic. We will not be treated differently.

Logan alleges that Tonev called him a ‘black c**t’.

    Tonev denies it.

Logan’s contemporaneous reaction at the time presumably supplies any necessary corroboration, or at least is enough on a balance of probability to sway the balance towards a guilty verdict.

We’d probably see things more clearly if it was any other Club than our own.

  13. Ellboy – I’m sure Logan thinks he heard racist abuse. That doesn’t mean it was actually said.

Get your hands off me you black c**t

I’ve taught English as a foreign language and this is not a normal phrase someone with only a year or two speaking English would be able to say. Whilst he might know how to say “you black c**t” I doubt he is a master of the imperative nor phrasal verbs. If he did say something along those lines it’d more likely be ” Don’t touch me, black c**t”, “Don’t touch, black c**t”, “You not touch me, black c**t”.

Anybody know if Mr. Tonev got top marks in his use of phrasal verbs test?

Anyway, if there is any doubt as to what was said then the case needs thrown out and those who saw fit to issue a 7 game ban should be removed from these SFA panels.

Fair enough but that is an easy phrase! It’s a set phrase that he had probably heard many times. What Tonev was alleged to have said is far more difficult as it requires a certain level of language skill. It is unlikely that it’s something he’d heard in training or other games.

The player’s reaction is nowhere near the standard of proof required, especially for such a serious allegation.

It does not allow the possibility of a misunderstanding, for starters.

Bearing in mind your regular disdain for ‘the easily offended’ on here,I didn’t expect such a weak reaction from you.

Tonev’s entire career, particularly in The UK,is at risk over this.

Professionally and personally, this could ruin him.

A far higher standard of proof is needed. As,in fact,is a far higher standard of adjudicator than an SFA panel.

Young Mr Logan on being racially abused appears to know the correct procedure of dealing with such, approach said referee thereafter his team captain and finally his manager, all during a football match.
