Guidetti the exceptional talent

1003

We’ve had a few free kick experts in modern times.  Lubo was first.  He could hit them, and score with them, with either foot.  The man was a menace to opponents on many levels.  He also taught us that hitting the ball as hard as possible into an opponent’s body, standard fare for Celtic in the 80s and early 90s, was a poor return from a dead ball situation.

Lubo clearly influenced Shaun but it wasn’t until Naka arrived that Shaun really found his grove.  With right footed Maloney and left footed Nakamura lining up behind the ball keepers were forced to leave a vulnerable space at any centrally-located free kick.

I don’t remember any player scoring with three consecutive free kicks, an absolutely exceptional feat.  John Guidetti is proving to be an exceptional player.  From what I hear he’s also enjoying being a Celtic player, there’s been a meeting of minds on what is expected and what’s on offer.

This is a young player who has already learned a few lessons on football clubs and career management.  He has the makings of a Celtic legend.

Those of you who weren’t there last night, make sure you see the goals.  Four of them were exceptional.

Many thanks to everyone who has big on our auction for two debenture seats for the Inverness game on Saturday, courtesy of Celtic sponsor, Magners.  Funds raised go towards building our forth kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi, specifically for the 909 children who attend Chibwata Primary School in Dowa, which currently doesn’t have a kitchen.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, but………  things are improving.  93% of your money raised is getting to the projects on the ground, Mary’s Meals are now feeding hundreds of thousands of kids there each day, over 2000 of them in kitchens CQN readers have already built.

Kids who are fed at school there are able to attend instead of having to work for food – primary school attendance is up 30% after Mary’s Meals build a kitchen.  As a result they all get a basic education, some of them are set on a road to a higher education and all have better chances in life.

The auction closes tomorrow. You will do nothing better today than get involved with this one, which you can do here.

Just finished cleaning up my kitchen after the sparrow incident at lunchtime. Seems the wee bassa shat in more than my lunch. Mrs acgr had to ask several times “what’s this: on the work surface, on my dishes, on my cooker”, before I told her about the scrambled eggs. FFS, she didnay have to salvage her scran and get by on half a lunch!!.

  6. ACGR, A bloody big bird came down my chimney last year into “the good room”. You know the one you put the best china & glass etc. The So and So wreaked havoc. It took me an hour to get the effer out. Cost me a few bob plus bird preventative cowls for the chimneys to stop a re-occurrence. Bloody Burds always causing trouble. Anyway I’m off to my leaba, wind howling outside, hope it subsides for golf to-morrow. Night Timland UTLR.

Jamesgang, if my bro shat in my kitchen that could create a bit of a diplomatic issue.

Sipsini, there were no legs left, more of a smudge inside the hole in the wall. Mashie hammers do a lot of damage to plasterboard. I’ve a wee bit of work to put it right tomorrow. Sad to say cock sparrow will not be in his roost tonight.

RIP the sparrow. That will teach it not to shite in my lunch.

  11. corkcelt,

I’ve never had a big bird come down my chimney, but when the kids were younger and sleeping a few have been came in through the back door :)

Jamesgang, it wisnae a kettle, it was a mashie hammer. Anyway, you have experience of carmyllie. There’s millions of sparrows and other stuff up here, most of which can be made into soup. Not that one though.

Sipsini, I just read back. Look after your faither, he’s the only one you’ve got. You’re a good lad.

Corky, technically I don’t think killing a sparrow that shat in you lunch is classed as murder. Yes, I had to dispatch the poor wee fellow. Life in Carmyllie’s tough but I’ll have to live with my guilt. If it had been a raven or a goshawk, I might have kept it as a pet, but it wisnae. Plus, it ruined my lunch and my kitchen wall.

I’m getting a lawyer, I can see where this is going.

DD, I’ve been checking out flights to Belfast for the 14th Feb (BTW, that’s not a romantic invite).

£54 return from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Good deal so I’ll be booking up for the hootenanny. Dena 29 has promised me she’ll put me up in her country estate. She has hot and cold running maids, so book early.

Celtic have vowed to appeal a seven match ban handed to Aleksandar Tonev after he was found guilty of racially abusing Aberdeen’s Shay Logan.

The Bulgarian winger, who is on loan at Parkhead from Aston Villa, was hit with the punishment following a five-hour disciplinary hearing at Hampden on Thursday.

Tonev and Logan were direct opponents during a 2-1 win for Celtic over Aberdeen at Parkhead in September when Englishman Logan told referee Bobby Madden the Bulgarian had called him a ‘black c***’.

The defender also reported the alleged incident to his captain, Mark Reynolds, and Aberdeen boss McInnes.

Tonev vehemently denied the allegation but was hit with an SFA charge and was accompanied to yesterday’s hearing by Celtic assistant boss John Collins.

Tonev left Hampden without comment but Celtic later released a statement, insisting they accepted Tonev is not a racist and that they would fight his corner.

A Celtic spokesperson said: ‘Racism has no place in football and as a club for all people, Celtic absolutely abhors racism of any kind.

‘This was a very unfortunate case, but the Club has accepted Aleksandar’s explanation that he did not say the words that were alleged to have been said and that he is not a racist.

‘We are, therefore, very disappointed by the outcome today and can confirm that Aleksandar will be appealing this decision.

I’ve been looking through the AGM pack. Two things:

I don’t see any mention of Resolution 12, well there is but it’s not the one we were interested in last year.

I don’t see any mention in the accounts of the commonwealth games income. A naw queried this earlier. Now, I’ve just skim read the booklet and may have missed these items. If one of our intrepid financial guru’s could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

Not impressed with Celtic’s response to the living wage resolution so I’ll be going to the AGM to vote for it, assuming I’ll get the chance and it wont be treated like last year’s resolution 12.

So, of course, the meeja are all over the Tonev story right after the SFA release the verdict right in the middle of the positive atmosphere over the last couple of days.

Paranoid? Naw, I dinnae think so either.

I don`t know what Tonev said or didn`t say ,but it beggars belief that ,on the basis ,of the available “evidence”, a player can be banned for seven games.

S.F.A. justice. We know all about that.To our cost.

    Daily Wail:

“Bluntly, Celtic believe the evidence presented by Aberdeen was flimsy. There were no third-party corroborating witnesses. It was, in essence, one man’s word against another. Under questioning, Tonev told Celtic officials Logan had ‘misheard’ what he actually said.”
