Guidetti the exceptional talent

1003

We’ve had a few free kick experts in modern times.  Lubo was first.  He could hit them, and score with them, with either foot.  The man was a menace to opponents on many levels.  He also taught us that hitting the ball as hard as possible into an opponent’s body, standard fare for Celtic in the 80s and early 90s, was a poor return from a dead ball situation.

Lubo clearly influenced Shaun but it wasn’t until Naka arrived that Shaun really found his grove.  With right footed Maloney and left footed Nakamura lining up behind the ball keepers were forced to leave a vulnerable space at any centrally-located free kick.

I don’t remember any player scoring with three consecutive free kicks, an absolutely exceptional feat.  John Guidetti is proving to be an exceptional player.  From what I hear he’s also enjoying being a Celtic player, there’s been a meeting of minds on what is expected and what’s on offer.

This is a young player who has already learned a few lessons on football clubs and career management.  He has the makings of a Celtic legend.

Those of you who weren’t there last night, make sure you see the goals.  Four of them were exceptional.

Many thanks to everyone who has big on our auction for two debenture seats for the Inverness game on Saturday, courtesy of Celtic sponsor, Magners.  Funds raised go towards building our forth kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi, specifically for the 909 children who attend Chibwata Primary School in Dowa, which currently doesn’t have a kitchen.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, but………  things are improving.  93% of your money raised is getting to the projects on the ground, Mary’s Meals are now feeding hundreds of thousands of kids there each day, over 2000 of them in kitchens CQN readers have already built.

Kids who are fed at school there are able to attend instead of having to work for food – primary school attendance is up 30% after Mary’s Meals build a kitchen.  As a result they all get a basic education, some of them are set on a road to a higher education and all have better chances in life.

The auction closes tomorrow. You will do nothing better today than get involved with this one, which you can do here.

  1. Somebody asked what is Tonev English?

I can only guess his English is not good after one year there. He spent few years in Poland and did not speak Polish well.

There is a chance what he allegedly said was ” Get your hands off my black c@@@”.

    Oh I forgot.

If Tonev takes the spfl to court do Celtic get a doing from UEFA?

    ————–

Pretty sure, Philbhoy, that Celtic would have the smarts to ensure that Tonev and not the Club would be the one taking the SFA to court.

If it gets that far I think I will be making a point of attending. Should be very very interesting to hear the evidence and the thought processes behind the verdict.

Additionally we’ll know the identities of the three man panel who judged him guilty.

  3. One way to get round a football banning order?

  6. It’s strange that in a game of football (which this was, by the way), the word of one player unsupported by the referee would not be enough to even earn a freekick, no matter how strong the player’s reaction. Yet in this instance it seems to be sufficient to ruin a player’s career.

The SFA need to be very careful here, the ramifications for Tonev go far beyond a 7 game ban. His reputation has been tarnished, he’s not a Saurez or a John Terry, and therefore cannot rely solely on his abilities to earn him his next contract. This will affect his whole career and earnings, not to mention his social standing where he’ll be forever remembered as “that racist footballer”.

  7. Any team news for tomorrow?

    Any injuries?

And I hope Tonev isn’t in the squad because I THINK HE’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

    No other reason.

If we’re going by reactions, then Charlie mulgrew ( whilst with Aberdeen ) definitely put the heid on Kyle Laffatme.

  9. Pedrocaravanachio,

And going by reactions from me, guidettis shot in the 2nd half on weds low to the keepers right was a goal.

    Redpus csc :)

  10. pedro – Going by reactions, any foul on kyle lafferty, and any foul lafferty made on another player, should have resulted in the other player being sent off.

    My friends in Celtic,

“The term “racial discrimination” shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin that has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life”

    ——————————————–

This is the UN defination or Racism.

The SFA are going to be busy if we are truely intent on stamping out all forms of racism, particurally in the West of Scotland..

Equality is where the focus should lie.

As well as challenging the Tonev verdict, our club should also challenge the S.F.A. procedures, which not for the first time , seem rather dodgy. After all, they made a successful appeal against the appeal procedures in the Dougiegate scandal which were totally opposedto A.C.A.S. guidance..

My nephew plays for Clyde and earlier this season he was playing at Ibrox. His dad told me that he approached a copper at half time and again after an hour, to complain about banned songs coming from the blue order, which he said, offended him, and that ‘your standing here listening to that’.

After being directed to the seargent, the response he got was something like, ‘its really not my remit, if you have a complaint take it up with the stewards’.

Anyway my cousin took it up with the head steward, who asked what was really offending him,(named a few songs) he was told that ‘this is something you better take up with the club’. Buck passing at his best.

I have not read back so do not know how much has been said. However, I would say that regardless of what punitive action the SFA have taken; surely there must be a case for criminal proceedings but wait…stop press…where’s the corroboration…:)
