Gutter Life

Newco’s narcotic-type dependency on ever-more-creative PR was illustrated on BBC Radio Scotland last night by Michael Stewart, who highlighted ludicrously false attempted murder stories fed to the newspapers, followed by rushed and selectively edited TV interviews when the truth became apparent.

Meanwhile, every other football club in Scotland goes about their business, where PR prepare information ahead of games, like any normal entity.

On this occasion, two Celtic season ticket holders (quite rightly) reported to the police an incident, observed only by a handful of Celtic fans, by another fan at last month’s defeat.

Celtic fans’ abhorrence of intolerance is commendable, we hold ourselves to a higher standard.  The club cannot cut across this with denials or deflections. Others have exploited that police report shamelessly, but that is Gutter Life.

  1. I feel sorry for Michael Stewart. It can’t be easy being on a live radio show while Sky Sports News is morphing into Only An Excuse before your very eyes!

    Spoke to someone who has seen the Craig Whyte book pre release . Reckons it will be explosive in terms of EBTs etc , even with all the parts that the lawyers cut out

    The tv deal will be in tatters whilst we will be taken to court for breach of contract.

  4. The BBC.

    I’m sure t’s full of Huns and run along the lines of the Ormeau Avenue BBC in the 70s.

    However.

    The rules of broadcast media and print media are very different: the right of reply here is key. I have little doubt that their lawyers, and probably Traynor’s, have insisted on it.

    They’re covering their arse, first and foremost.

    Although there certainly is a culture of deference at best, and stenography at worst, in sports ‘journalism’

    Curious times at No 10. Reports of pol corrs being banned. Reminds me of FCs banning journos who wrote stuff they don’t like. Unaccountably most sports journos accept this lying down – pol corrs seem made of sterner stuff and behave like journalists – walking out in solidarity .

    “SIT DOWN FALLOUT Rangers news: Sky Sports and agent arranged Morelos translator not the Ibrox club”

    Both believable and unbelievable.

    Translators cost money and Sevco don’t have any.

    As football in almost every country goes international, foreign players are employed and brand is sacrosanct.

    Clubs who value their brand go to extraordinary lengths to manage communications and access to players.

    “lost in translation” to be avoided at all costs.

    ——————-

    and all thick as pig shit.

  14. THE SPIRIT OF “THE NATION.”

    OURSELVES ALONE.

    I.

    The work that should to-day be wrought

    Defer not till to-morrow;

    The help that should within be sought,

    Scorn from without to borrow.

    Old maxims these—yet stout and true—

    They speak in trumpet tone,

    To do at once what is to do,

    And trust ourselves alone.

    II.

    Too long our Irish hearts we schooled,

    In patient hope to bide;

    By dreams of English justice fooled,

    And English tongues that lied.

    That hour of weak delusion’s past,

    The empty dream has flown:

    Our hope and strength, we find at last,

    Is in ourselves alone.

    III.

    Aye! bitter hate, or cold neglect,

    Or lukewarm love at best,

    Is all we’ve found, or can expect,

    We aliens of the west.

    No friend beyond her own green shore,

    Can Erin truly own;

    Yet stronger is her trust, therefore,

    In her brave sons alone.

    IV.

    Remember when our lot was worse—

    Sunk, trampled to the dust;

    ‘Twas long our weakness and our curse,

    In stranger aid to trust.

    And if, at length, we proudly trod

    On bigot laws o’erthrown,

    Who won that struggle? Under God,

    Ourselves—ourselves alone.

    V.

    Oh, let its memory be enshrined

    In Ireland’s heart for ever:

    It proves a banded people’s mind

    Must win in just endeavour;

    It shows how wicked to despair,

    How weak to idly groan—

    If ills at others’ hands ye bear,

    The cure is in your own.

    VI.

    The “foolish word impossible”

    At once, for aye disdain;

    No power can bar a people’s will

    A people’s right to gain.

    Be bold, united, firmly set,

    Nor flinch in word or tone—

    We’ll be a glorious nation yet,

    Redeemed—erect—alone.

  15. I know the stuff re the Morelos incident and the Griff issue are important but our big issue is keeping momentum going at a tricky Fir Park Venue tomorrow night.

    They have a hard working and driving midfield with Campbell and Donnelly and they have a goalie in very good form. They don’t have much up front and they don’t draw many games.

    Important to get a good start here- keep playing the two up top- especially now Griff has had his behaviour warning- and save the wholesale changes for the Clyde game.

    My team:-

    Forster

    Simunovic Julien Ajer

    Brown McGregor

    Forrest Rogic Hayes

  16. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

    Timbhoy2 from earlier , there is no chance that worthless weasel Wishart nor the equally worthless Tony Higgins from the players union will do anything to back one of our players despite being SPFA members. The only time Wishart’s voice is heard is if something is going on at Ibrox.

    Wishart is also high up in the show racism the red card campaign but not once did he ever offer public support for Neil and Aiden with all the anti Irish racism directed at them by football supporters and over the top criticism each received in the media.

    Note the he brings it all on himself agenda they had with Neil yet Morelos is hard done to.

    And a PR catastrophe of biblical proportions.

  20. Who’s best: the sun, the daily record, sky sports, sevco, Alfredo Morelos, Alfredo Morelos’s wife, Alfredo Morelos’s wife’s private investigator, Alfredo Morelos’s agent?

  22. So there is huge story out there – but nobody can say anything about it?

    Has Schrodinger’s Cat been replaced with his ‘Story’.

    We are all veterans of ‘they’re going bust again’, ‘they are stealing water’, ‘the VAT man is at the door’ etc etc

    It is relatively straightforward to write a few elements of story without revealing confidences or compromising folk.

    So can we have less of ‘Man in the know’ please.

  23. For those calling to bar Sky or any broadcaster from Celtic Park.

    As a member of the SPFL I doubt that we could contractually take that route.

    As much as I’d like it from a purely personal point of view.

    Unlike those Celtic fans resident in UK, I have access to Celtic TV and can view all our games. LIVE.

    We are a member club of SPFL and therefore subject to their rules and contracts.

    Banning the broadcaster is unworkable.

    What is possible is initially to force SKY to issue an apology, and then bar them, not from broadcasting games, but from access to player and management interviews, media conferences at Lennoxtown and exclusion from news releases of player signings and updates.

  24. I’m not going to get any sleep now.

    I’ll be up all night wondering what the big story could be.

  25. Good morning CQN from a very mild but very dark Garngad

    Right another tough one tonight against the Murderwell

    Welcome back again to Jozo, welcome back to Moi and Bolingoli, gives Lenny options.

    Now we need a fit El Hamed back

    Murderwell will kick everything in sight as usual so we need to be right up for this one.

    3-1 to the good ghuys

    HH

    D. :)

  26. I have no background knowledge of what the bigger story may be on Morelos, but going by the language used by a couple of posters it sounds like something that is beyond football media and related matters. Possibly something that puts these things into perspective. So perhaps best not to go too hard on those involved in this latest scandal till the facts are known. Walk a mile in another’s shoes and all that…
